Project: S!X [ALBUM] [DELAYED RELEASE] [Being Renamed!!!]

Postby Bronies Are Cool » 12 Feb 2013 19:12

[UPDATED][AGAIN][AGAIN]

The reason I became a brony was because of the music. Music is what brought me to becoming a brony back in september. Now, I want to create an album where there is music by bronies that can be shown to anyone, and still be awesome. I want to have music that can be shown to non-bronies that still can be cool in their mind.

Because of the renaming of the album, this can no longer officially be the album cover, but i'll leave it so you can all admire the awesomeness of it.

[update]

The Rules for this album:
1. The tracks must be made by a brony artist. The songs can relate to ponies or not, just the artist has to be a brony. (Too bad none of those are around here...)
2. Do not use over-used samples from the show (20%), unless it can be used in a manner that seems awesome.
3. The music should be child appropriate, no swearing, not even the Chinese swear words.
4. You may submit as many songs as you like, but they must be original. do not submit the same song twice.
5. Tracks can be any length, but try to keep it under twenty minutes. (I know how some of you are...)
6. To be a judge for the music, PM me. Judges will remain unknown to the public unless they want to be known.
7. If you have an idea for an Album Title Change, submit it.

[UPDATED HERE]

TO SUBMIT A TRACK, SEND THE SONG TO [email protected]

The release of the album will depend on how many tracks are submitted and how many are accepted. The plan however is to have this be released this fall to give time for people to make their submissions. This reason for the extended due date was because of the fact that I have very limited access to a computer during summer months.

[UPDATED]
I want at minimum 10 tracks for this album, but there will be a limit at 15. The album will be given away on Bandcamp because they support free give-a-ways as well as accept donations.

This brings us to pricing. This will be a free album, but all money donated will go to the artists. Artists can opt out of earning money if they choose to do so.

Prefered genres: Dubstep, house, progressive, trance, anything remotely party-like.
The sounds of this album should be more upbeat and feel-good.

The theme of this album can be expressed in two words: COOL PARTY. Can this be played at a party with non-bronies and be cool? Does this have a party-like beat? Does this sound like a happy time?

Anyone can submit a song as well. Even if you have never made songs before, you can submit a song here to make a name for yourself.

The judging will work like this: Once the song is submitted, I will listen to them to make sure that it does not contain anything inappropriate. Then several people will hear the music and rate it on originality and uniqueness, how interesting it sounded, how party-like it was, as well as if it could be played to non-bronies and they would enjoy it. Judges will not know the artist to the song, this will keep it unbiased. Then, I actually play it around non-bronies and see the reactions.

As with judges that do not actually know me, songs will be sent to them, and they would have instructions to judge with similar categories. PM me to sign up.

In order for advertisement, I am actually hoping that Freewave can help me out a little bit on the Brony Musician Directory. (Awesome site by the way, I was not even paid to say that. (And I wasn't paid to say I wasn't paid.))

All songs may be submitted, but not all songs will be accepted. Not all songs have to be able to be played near non-bronies and still be cool to make it into this album.

About myself:
I live in Brighton, Colorado, USA. I am a student, and an avid listener to Brony Music. My goal is to spike interest in Brony Music again. The new golden age of Brony Music will be on the rise again, be a part of that. Submit your songs.

Edit: Good Luck!

OP:

Your new here so let me tell you something about the forums, its overstaurated with album events, and most new ones don't go anywhere because little thought went into the idea. You being so new also holds you at a disadvantage because we don;t know anything about you. We also know very little about your album proposal here.

Obviously you're new at this as you left out a lot of important information..
When is the album planned to be released?
When is the due date for tracks?
Paid or non-paid as well as charity or whatever else (your OP says its undecided, please decide first)?
Expected genres/prefered genres (saying every genre is allowed can hurt an album eq. who really wants dubstep and emotional orchestrated music together..)?
Overall tone/themes?
Where will it be released?
Judging/track limits?
Who are you and how do you decide a good song from a bad song (qualifications/experience)?
How do you plan to promote it?

Please, oh please, give us this needed information in the OP, otherwise all I read is you have an idea and don't know how to make it reality.

This isn't a place where cool music is made, sorry.

But on a serious note, you'd have to go find Alex S. or Toaster and get them to make music for this album. Also, change the title of the album. "Bronies are cool" just seems like a lame title to me and makes us look like arrogant pricks. But I'm afraid that the age of brony music is long over. It started when Alex S, Toaster, Tombstone, and the other few beginners decided to do some remixes and ended shortly before and after "Love Me Cheerilee" (imo). Sure, occasionally you'll have a good song come out, or even an album, such as Balloon Party, and I predict that with Rainbow&Rooted, there will also be a spike in popularity that will last a week before dying down. Don't get me wrong, your intentions are good, and I even have a friend who I got to watch the show through Glaze's and Alex's original music, but those times have past. The big producers who started out have moved on to more serious music that will build them a future and put their names in the history books should they succeed. Don't get me wrong, the fandom is a good place to start with music. It's a good place to meet people and learn the basics, even get recognized for what you're doing... But there comes a time where you have to move on. and...

I'm really off topic now. Lol. But to sum it up, if you get any professional sounding tracks for this album without the big people in the fandom (or anybody else with years of experience), I'd be greatly surprised. Don't expect the big people to do this album. If you do get some of the experienced people in on this album, feel lucky because chances are, they have other music that they need to be doing

Alright, after reading through the updates, looks good. Once again, I'd personally be pretty surprised if you got tracks as good quality as what you're expecting, but there's not anything wrong with hoping. Where would we be without hoping?

I personally don't know whether I'll submit for this album or not, as I'm working on making something good for R&R, but I'll consider throwing up a track after I'm done with R&R.

I actually like this idea. I've always like the idea of getting my friends to listen to a brony song without telling them it's pony, then watching their reactions when I tell them it is. But right now, I'm going through a severe, painful writers block. I've had it for months. I'll see if I can't fix myself for this. :)

I do too. lol, It makes me proud to be a brony when a non-brony wants pony music after I play it. This album should be something the brony community would be proud of. Bronies are Cool!

Aiming for the stars? Sounds fine to me. Just don't get your hopes and expectations up too highly for this. I have no doubt that you'll get submissions, but I personally doubt that you'll get good quality submissions like the ones you're aiming for, the ones that make bronies proud to be who they are. But, I've been proven wrong before. Hope for the best but expect mediocre, I'd say.

I love the idea of this Album. I have a lot of friends that aren't fans of MLP, and some who don't even know what it is. Despite this, some of my 'non-brony' friend's favorite artists are Glaze and Mando. With an entire album of "cool" music, I think there would be a lot of people attracted to the show through the music (I personally first heard of the show after listening to Acoustic Brony)

That being said, while there are a lot of "good" musicians in this fandom, the "holy-cow what is this eargasm I'm having" are spread thin, and don't contribute to stuff like this very often. However, this album would be a great place to introduce new musicians to the scene; but while it will probably be good, maybe even amazing at points, the majority of songs will not be professional quality (we are on a forum that is comprised of mostly self-taught, high-school/college aged musicians). Nothing stopping anyone from trying though.

I'll see if I can contribute to this album. I have a lot of WIP's that are at the beginning stages but have the backbones ready.

This is great stuff. If you really want me to use it, PM me. This is fantastic. I showed it to both brony and non-brony. Everyone likes it. (Actually 6 out of 8, but close enough...)

Yeah i really don't know what this event is really about tbf as people have stated before. I mean if you're looking for an essential brony music compilation you could burn a copy of the Brony RYM box set for your friends and get the big songs and artists of 2011. Maybe i should make a 2012 2nd disc.

I don't share itroitnyah's skepicism that no relevant brony music is made anymore other than we do have a serious glut that makes it hard to even notice when a track is exceptional and we have more artists making it then ever (including many tracks that may be unexceptional, granted). That doesn't mean that no good music out there it means you have to decide what your criteria is to see what's worth noting. But a scope is needed on what you're really wanting (new or old tracks) and WHO (big names who won't write you back, little names, mid teir). Otherwise this is a bit doomed to fail.

Good luck.

From what I've gathered and the way OP was talking, it seems the point isn't just "Good Brony Music"; it seems to be that he's looking for music (party-themed in particular) that, while still pony-related, isn't so glaringly obvious that it drives non-bronies off. Stuff like Rainbow Factory, Loyalty, and Discord would work, as they have pony themes... while not glaringly so.

However, a song that is a remixed and vocoded track of Rainbow Dash saying "20% cooler" or Fluttershy saying "yay" over and over wouldn't work, as it is so pony that it, frankly, kinda scares people.

I think thats what OP is talking about; good "new" music that allows people that are and aren't fans of the show to come together and enjoy the same music.

Golden age ended in 2011, we're on the bronze age now.

Well there's a lot of barely pony music made these days. Maybe entitle the compilation Pino Collada and on the cover have a humanized and stacked Celestia raising a toast. Double platinum. Anyway, good luck.

Regarding the album, just... good luck. As 4th said above, this forum is oversaturated with album events and I can't say I expect to see much come of this. But if it does, then great. I won't be participating though.

It doesn't even have to be pony related. Just brony-artist made. It still can be pony related, but in a way that it doesn't make it obvious.( Like Discord, which would be perfect because I played it for non-bronies only yesterday, and they wanted me to play it again. But it is not something submitted, so...) Party type of music is totally what I am looking for, something to rock out to, something to head bang to almost, something that makes you groove. I want it to appeal to both brony, and non-brony.

But of course, this only would work if people submit their songs. The fact that I am also competing with other album events also ruins the odds, but I am trying to advertise this right now, and get "celebrities" to help out as well. Which brings me to this announcement: The first judge on the judging panel is...(drum roll please...)...CYRRICKY!!!

If you have never heard of Cyrricky, his music is fantastic, check him out on youtube or something. My personal favorite song by him is Party Pony from Balloon Party. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUuUIGKYKwc

His generic music is fantastic. It's catchy and I love it.

Basically, if Cyrricky and Bartekko submitted mainstream-sounding stuff, you'd make one million dollars.

Anyway, electronica is way out of my zone. But if someone wants to collaborate, maybe we could do someething with funky guitar, vocoded singing, and "glitchted" vocal samples.

Okay, I'm tentatively in, but the real reason I'm posting is because I REALLY hope that you didn't commission that album cover, because it looks like it was made in about 5 minutes in MS Paint. If you want people to take your album seriously don't use just have something thrown together for a cover.

I could not in good conscious leave you with an MS Paint cover, so here, I made this. Please use it or have someone else make one that knows how to use a program GIMP-level or higher.

Re: Project: S!X [ALBUM] [DELAYED RELEASE]

Postby Bronies Are Cool » 16 Apr 2013 13:01

The date of release has been set back to sometime this fall. This means that anyone who kind of wanted to do this, but then decided no to now has more time to decide if they really want to not do this.

The reason for the set back is because during the summer, I work all day every day of the week, and I will not have my computer. I would prefer to not use my family computer because it freezes every couple of hours, and is extremely slow. (2002) We don't currently have the money to purchase a new one. I usually use a laptop that my school gave me to use during the year. That means that during the summer, I will have to give it back.

Unfortunately, as probably most of you have suspected, this album has not gotten very much attention. I myself am not surprised. This started back in february, and has received 0 submits. But, I have actually gotten response from Baq5 saying that he would like to participate in this album, but have not heard anything since then. Hopefully, he will submit something. I have also contacted Aviators, but am currently waiting for response. I will remain hopeful and devoted for this album until it is done. We have an album cover, but no songs. I still have hope for this.

Please know that anyone can submit songs. Anyone, you don't even have to be known to the public, you just have to be a brony. (Which if you were not a brony, why are you on this site right now?) There is still time.
