1. The released album doesn't cater to a particular genre of music, unlike Knife Party that this is parodying. Examples: Makkon's orchestral tracks. Psychedelic Brony's psychedelic rock.
2. 45 tracks is a pretty ginormous album as is. When you have over 200 submissions to an album, you can't simply accept all of them, and I personally feel that 45 is quite a generous size. Anything over would start to get a bit extreme.
3. The album doesn't cater to the top brony musicians. Yes, many are featured, but there's also many musicians I haven't seen before that are featured. Not to mention that some very popular musicians were not accepted as well. Example: Omnipony
4. You CAN still upload your track to YouTube, but it cannot be under the name of Balloon Party. If you want to mention that it was your submission that didn't get accepted, that's all on you, but there's nothing preventing you from releasing your tracks.
There really shouldn't be any surprises. We knew shortly after hearing how many musicians were involved, that we would need some form of quality control on the album, which simply cannot feature more than like, 50 tracks at tops.
If there's one thing that does sort of annoy me about the track selection, it's the fact that some musicians have more than 1 song featured. Surely a few of those 78% of submissions that were declined were high enough quality to get on the album, so I personally feel it's a bit unfair to deny those artists in favor of giving another artist a second song on the album.
But that's my only complaint. Overall I'm not mad at all. I rushed my song, and don't feel it's the best I could have done. If anything this helped inspire me as to what more I should work towards, and I encourage others that didn't make the cut to find a positive outcome.

You guys obviously have no clue how much work we put into putting this album together.
Think that if you'd like, but I can tell you myself we put a hell of a lot of work into compiling the final album, and that is FAR from accurate.
Have a good day

I would also like to find out who the 'quality control' team is and ask them this: What part of THIS HARD didn't you understand? Is it a difficult concept?
HOW HARD?

Tiazn wrote:When the guys at Balloon Party announced that there would be quality control, that was expected. What I did not expect was that there can only be 45 songs on the album. With that aspect, Balloon Party seemed more like a competition for the 45 slots than a collaboration that anyone can join as long as their song is genuinely hard and good.
I expected quality control too merely filter out the songs that were plagiarised or genuinely not good and hard enough, atleast to the typical brony. Circuitfry was right in that quality control would be needed in order cut out several submissions that were honestly not very good. However, I didn't expect the judging team, with their own subjective opinions, to cut out such a huge swath of otherwise still very good and hard songs.
Man, all that excitement from listening all of those BP teasers. I'll be honest, nearly all of the teasers I've listened to were really hard and really great. The best part about these teasers, however, was that nearly every song for Balloon Party, in my opinion, was a cut above that artist's music-making prowess. I felt that most of these artists were trying their hardest to make a truly hard yet good song. In the end, a majority of the submissions not accepted were really great songs too.
The problem with Balloon Party is not that too many submissions were bad, but that too many submissions were GOOD, GREAT, and pretty HARD. The album on bandcamp can realistically only have so many songs in it. It must have been very difficult for Circuitfry along with the other judges to pick the best 45 if some 67%-90% of the submissions were all very good tracks on their own right. In my own humble, very flawed and subjective opinion, I'd easily put either of Omnipony's (unmastered, if his mastering is really that bad) tracks that got rejected over Circuitfry's own song that got in. Considering, however, that Balloon Party was originally meant to be a collab between Aussie and Circuitfry, it is only right that at least one of Circuitfry's own submissions be on it.
In the end, I don't blame Circuitfry and the others for their selecting of the submissions if they can only pick the 45 greatest submissions (As Carrot Top would say, "We couldn't fit it all in"). But Balloon Party shouldn't be on Bandcamp if that is going to limit the number of songs that can be in. It may have been better if the album was either 1. split into parts so that more songs get in, or 2. bundled into one mighty download or torrent so that there really wouldn't be a need for a limit.
I hope that the other album , Balloon Party: The After Party Mix, will not end up like what happened with this album, with a huge bunch of otherwise good and hard tracks not getting in due to the physical limitations of an album, Bandcamp or otherwise.
Apologies for this massive pile of text, but I've really just had to let it all out.
BP is still a very great album, that it doesn't have as many songs as it should have, or that yours got rejected, shouldn't discourage you from listening to its pure awesomeness.
Over on My Little Remix, YouTube, Ponychan, and even tumblr, I have seen people again and again criticizing how the album is only a big name project, and how songs they liked didn’t get picked, and how the project was a failure etc.
First of all, I just wanna say that the time spent on this project has been massive, going on for months and with so many musicians, known and unknown, helping each other out to be better musicians. Even if someone didn’t get on the album, they have had their skills improved tremendously and really put effort onto it (except for the guy who plagarised).
On the point of only big names: Yes, Artattack, Makkon, Icky, Jackle App, Fooz, Alex S., H8_Seed, etc, are all big names. But they are but a small fraction of it. Most of the names on this album I have never heard of before. I highly doubt that it’s only a big name project, or that big names were guaranteed to get in. SoGreatandPowerful didn’t get in, or Eurobeat Brony, or Omnipony (those were the names that stuck out to me when I went to submit my entry). I’m very sure there were more that didn’t get in. The amount of new people, or people that aren’t as well-known, greatly outnumber those who are known.
On the point of songs that people liked that didn’t get picked: Guys, there are at least three judges, and I’m sure that most, if not all, are very knowledgeable about making music and genres and the like. They have had to go through an insane amount of entries. They couldn’t pick too many, because then why would they even have a judging process, and just let every song in? It’s pointless. They have some kind of scale or way of judging the songs, and whether it’d fit on the album or not. That’s probably why they aren’t publicly revealing any judges; because of the insane amount of backlash they’d get. Even with 45 songs, it’s still about quality over quantity.
On the point of how it was a failure: The album crashed Bandcamp for a bit, downloads were delayed by an hour or two, and it quickly shot up to be the number #1 top seller as of late, with Bandcamp sending the people in charge of this project an email congratulating them and the fandom. Balloon Party has amassed a ton of money, to help musicians get to Bronycon to perform, connect with the community, and just make people happy in general. And it has improved nearly every single musician in their skills on making music, mastering, and production.

There was no favoritism. I am dead honest about this. Songs were judged without artist names explicitly known. The only way you could tell is if you heard the teaser beforehand, or the song had already been tagged as such. There were many well known artists whose songs did not make it. I was shocked at some of them when I learned who the artists were.
So please, PLEASE, do not assume that the track list was based on who was submitting the track.

Okay, sure, but can you explain why Balloon Party was billed as "THIS HARD", only to have tracks rejected because they were TOO hard?
Maybe there wasn't favoritism, but there sure was genre bias.
