Hi im new. Here's my music.

Omni is a good friend of mine from before ponies. He told me to come here when I asked him for help. I'm in turmoil right now because I'm not sure if I should keep making music. I have to try because it's the only thing keeping me fed right now. I need to be successful and I need advice guidance and help. I'm going to post all of my best tracks now and i need 100% honesty. Is it good? if not, what do i need to do to MAKE it good. Everyone has been lying to me because they don't give a shit. I don't want any of that here.

I need to know why the first one got the best reaction out of all of them, and I need to know how I can continue to do it.

Also i apopgize if i seem like an asshole right now, I am having a really hard time in my head right now.

Wow.

First off, I'm sorry you're having a hard time right now. Second, I don't know why people would be lying to you. But if they're saying any of these tracks linked are bad, then, ok, yeah, they're lying. Honestly, it's at this point in any one of my reviews I'd be pointing out little things that I notice in the tracks that sound off or that I might change... But I seriously can't find anything. And it makes me feel like I'm letting you down. But your tone is sort of like you're "searching" for someone to tell you it's bad.

It isn't. This is really good. Why is it good? First of all, ALL of these songs have a cohesive theme! Flutterstep is calm/quiet sounding dubstep and has an atmosphere suiting of Fluttershy throughout. Forgotten Nebula has the feeling of light ambience and traveling (there's a slight driving force behind the song, but enough "airy-ness" that keeps it feeling ambient). Sparklehouse has a solid build and fall to it, just as the years/seasons do. -[I honestly am withholding listening to the Smile remix (as I am any other iteration of it) because I haven't even heard the original yet, shame on me, I know]-. Pink Duppy I don't even, like, there's this creepy weird feeling to the song and it's awesome. Point being, there's nothing in any of these that doesn't "fit" within the song. Second of all, everything SOUNDS good! There's no clashing or muddy sounding areas (to me, at least) and each instrument is given it's respectable place in the tracks. Third of all, they're legitimately good, none I felt were too repetitive or had any faults. Any of this is totally subjective of me, of course, as it's my opinion.

Now why did the Flutterstep get the "best reaction" as you say? Because Fluttershy. And Dubstep. It just has to do with that, I think. People like Fluttershy. People like Dubstep. But it isn't a RAWRAWRDUBSTEP which some might expect when mentioned and they're like "ono, too harsh for fluttershy" or something. So they're pleasantly surprised. Or not, who knows how each individual reacts to a song. I'm not sure by "best reaction" if you mean, most positive or most views. Those are totally different things. Views just has to do with who sees it and when, which can also impact reactions. Generally when things get shared, they get shared with people who will like it (like if someone shares a pony song to a bunch of other bronies, as opposed if they shared it with non-bronies [silly example, but still]). But that creates a wave of, usually, positive reactions. Personally, I loved Forgotten Nebula out of all of them.

To wrap up, I'm sorry you're dealing with this mental/stress/difficulty. I can sympathize to a degree. All I can recommend is take a step or two away from it and relax and come back with a clearer mind. Find a way to relieve some stress. But understand that this is GOOD music. You KNOW what you are doing. You are GOOD at what you do. All you have to do is keep at it as you have been and you'll continue to improve yourself even more. Keep calm and music on (ohgodthatwasterrible, I can't end it like that).. The mindset you're in right now can become toxic to you if you let it persist. Find things that make you happy -- you don't necessarily need to "forget" these thoughts, as they can be beneficial if you take the constructive thoughts out of the toxic ones. Bask in some sunlight, purge the negativity! (well, that wasn't much better, but an end it shall be).

Thanks for the huge wall of feedback. It means a lot to me. I just don't understand how one person can tell my my music is good and mean it and another tell me its good and lie and yet another can just completely avoid me all together.I also want to know why EQD rejected my last one, the pink duppy. I emailed it to them 2 weeks ago and then again 3 days ago. Why don't they feature it, or at least reply to me?

I know everyone says EqD reply, but unless they feature my work, I never get an e-mail back, so I'm left wondering whether it was lost in the mail, or just outright rejected. Personally, I found your stuff excellent, and well-deserving of being featured on EqD. Sadly, it's one of the only places a brony musician can shoot to fame if they're passionate and consistent. Sadder still, is the amount of AMAZING brony musicians I know, who aren't well-known enough to really be considered for a feature. I'm actually amazing they've featured stuff from me (as I write primarily jazz/eclectic music). Some of the stuff I've worked the hardest on has just sort of been shoved aside. I've found EqD to have become more and more mainstream when it comes to the kind of artists they feature, which I find a bit disappointing. But either way, work at it, man. Your stuff is excellent. Well-composed and mixed, catchy, not too repetitious and fun. I have no doubt that with time, you'll work your way up there.

Don't worry too much about not being on EQD. In time, you'll find you shall be up there! I've only been featured once on EQD, and it took 3 months for EQD to notice my remix. You just gotta wait. :D

You've definitey got the music touch. NONE of your tracks are bad, they're all of a very high level! Besides, if you love to make music, you shouldn't care for those who say it "sucks". Live the life! :D

You know, your music is something i'd like to create one day, so whoever might say its bad - they are wrong. Very wrong. I watched pretty much all of your videos and you are way better than you might actually think.

I cant offer any help since i'm new to music, but i can say - you are good.

Well They've been consistently featuring me. three of the tracks I posted were featured, but a couple I've made like Pink Duppy were rejected for seemingly no reason. Those features is the only reason I have more than 100 views on anything. I've noticed something though; Pink Duppy has more comments on it than some tracks with 5k views. I think it means that the subscribers I've picked up are actually supporting me. I could be wrong though.

Your music is perfectly fine :) A dubstep trance? I guess? Trance is a really amazing music genre is my opinion, but some people might have been looking for more dirty, hardcore bass drop style. That might be why some people are possibly lying to you. But yes, continue to make songs. You're definitely really good at it.

As for making EqD? They seem to be really on and off about how often they respond. I submitted all but my latest 2 songs, and none of them made it, by I DID get a pm on YouTube from one of the workers on EqD, who said that there were things I could improve on, and that they weren't going to even go through the prelistening process to see if they would feature it. I'm guessing its just a chance thing. They have a guy who reads the emails and if he likes the song, he advances it to a bigger group of people who vote on the song, and decide to feature it or not. Sorta like how the government makes a law.

As for tips, I can't really give you any about trance music style, since I havn't even tried to make any before. But I can try and give you some tips on making bass drops or something.

Step 1: Find around 3 instruments. They should consist of a wub style instrument, a screamer, and something around what you have for your bass beat (like if you used a piano to do arpaeggoes [or whatever they're called], you'd use that)

Step 2: Place down the instruments at where ever you feel appropriate. Make them loud, really loud. Then you can use whatever tool you would use to change the speed of the wub mid note. The tool is called the Automation Track in the software I use. Not sure it would be the same for you. It'll add a bit of variation, which is good.

Step 3: add in some kicks, clashes, hihats closed and open, snares, claps, snaps, or whatever other drum instruments you want, and place down some beats in time with the wubs and screams.

Step 4: ???

Step 5: Profit

This process can get some time to get used to, and you may have a lot of trial and error, but you'll get it after a while :)

But if you want to continue to do trance step, feel free :D It's very good, and I'd recommend it to some of my friends if they were bronies too.

Well man, your music is pretty good man. I can't say I've actually heard of you as an artist before today which may be a problem. I have nothing to really to knock you music wise although always be aware that repetition can always be a trap if you're music doesn't expand past the initial melodies.

It's more about your expectations and what do you think you're entitled to as a Brony artist at this point in time. There's hundreds of brony artists all making music and wanting to get heard. We're all in very similar situations to be honest but then again its all in how interpret success and entitlement. I'll be honest in that only recently has EqD even acknowledged my existence. While I got a 5 week old remix put on there finally after submitted by the original artist (Dr. Dissonance) I had to wait a few more months before anything else got featured on there. Luckily the last 2 of 3 submissions did make it but it just might be a lucky streak. But before that I submitted 4 remixes for several weeks without even a rejection letter. That's frustrating but its important not to judge yourself by other people's standards. The people who were hearing music on soundcloud (mostly other brony artists) were liking what i was putting out and there was always a steady trickly of positive. Sometimes that's all you get.

Equestria Daily allows us to get our music out to a massive audience all at once but it also makes you feel like your tracks or good or bad by what they highlight. You shouldn't feel that if they pass anything over that they aren't good (unless feedback is rather poor (ie low amount of favorites, negative commnets)). They are only going to highlight the BEST of pony music. That is pony music that is quality, that is MLP centered and influenced (and not PINO - pony in name only). They don't owe anyone a spot on there but yes it would be nice to get a track on there or at least get a rejection letter if that is not the case. But it doesn't really work that way and there's loads of people listening to these tracks, picking the good ones, and leaving a whole lot of tracks that could also be included but sometimes aren't. As said they want to keep standards high and that's not a bad thing really.

There's a 9 page thread about EqD and what's going on with the site good and bad and from both sides. It's an important read for any brony who wants to know what's going on and have realistic expectations. You're not the only who's made recent remarks about EqD of course and I've seen it from very successful Bronies (Silva Hound on their tmblr was upset his 2 recent ep's took awhile to be featured and Aviators said there might be a grudge against house music as well as a general thought that Seth was the only one handling the submission queue). I also had to console Thorinair on a track of his that wasn't included which was his first rejection and the guy was really upset as EVERYTHING else of his had.

It's important for any brony despite their size to have realistic expectations and the main thing I'm trying to get to you or anyone who wants to rush to complain is that Equestria Daily owes no one a spot. Likewise your only avenue to an audience should not come from them. In a fair world favorites and submissions would make all the difference but alas if they don't feature you expect far less views. But don't come with a sense of entitlement as that's just a poor attitiude tbh.

I submitted 2 remixes almost back to back a week or so ago. I loved them both, I put lot of effort into both. One never got a response back and is at 5 favorites and 69 views, the other did get accepted by EqD is at 64 favorites and 3300 views thanks to EqD. I would have loved for both to be on there but i didn't expect it and I didn't curse EqD over it. In the end if I had to choose which was more worthy i think they made the right choice. Again its about your expectation and how you judge success. I find soundcloud to be the best judge on how good a track is because i'll get feedbhack from my peers and its good data through favorites, downloads, and comments. Youtube really is my window to non-artists, a wider audience, and it really is much more hit and miss. It's just how it is.

Its a decent track. is it remarkable? Does it stick out far above the herd? Maybe not. Is it good? sure it is. BIGGEST issue is it ends abruptly. That's likely the reason why they didn't include it. That's a quality control issue, you should have at least fixed that before wondering why it was rejected.

Despite what i'm commenting i don't think you're an assh@le. We ALL get frustrated and we've all expected and wanted more and this is a great forum to talk to your peers (and to listen and talk with others and hear their music). I'm not sure why you think someone telling you you're good may be lying tho. Regardless, it's important to determine what you consider success so re-evaluate and let us know what that is if that's the problem. If you're expecting the same success that Omni is getting at his 14 years old that's a far different expectation than most of us who want to get a few favs from our pals, positive comments, and an occasional EqD spotlight when something really sticks out. To many of us the friendhsip part of making music and making friends with other musicians is an important part of this and I hope that's something you've pursued before coming to MLR. If not then its a great place to start.

I need success like omni's to feed me. Like I said I'm not in a great position right now and I'm trying to make this a legitimate career. I need to have big enough stats to become a youtube parter so I can at least have a few extra dollars coming in. I'm 19 and I have never had a job I'm in college and I can't even get an interview for the life of me. This is all I got. If i fail, I'm looking at homelessness and debt to my college.

Just take it as it comes, dude. I try to make quality tracks, and if they don't get featured, then I tell myself I'll make my next one even better. While I question the way EqD processes music and their apparent bias for popular musicians, I still know I can make it if I put in the effort and remain consistent. I don't get greedy with my 'popularity needs'. "Be good so they can't ignore you."

"I need success like omni's to feed me." I feel this is extremely naive thinking. I have 125 subscribers from a few featured tracks, and I'm extremely grateful for them. I've even built up a mini-following on my jazz tracks that HAVEN'T been featured. The only advice I can offer is to just keep at it. Put your all into it. If you're wanting to make a life from your music, you're going to have to put EVERYTHING you have into your craft. Stay up late just to perfect a track. Jump out of bed as soon as inspiration hits. Write down ideas as they come to you and try to reach the broadest audience you can without EqD (which is extremely hard, I know.) Hell, get annoying with it almost. Put yourself OUT THERE. I'm not even trying to make music my career, and I do all of these things. If you have the drive, you just force your name out there (post around, get your name recognized), and your work is quality (which is most definitely is), you'll get there in the end.

Huh, long thread (:

Basically mate EqD gets bombarded with messages each day; I haven't had the time to read trough all these walls of texts but, if your song doesn't get a responce, at least try posting it once more. Sometimes the messages do get mixed up so it's better to try once more.

Maybe you should contact some of the prelisteners and ask them what's wrong with your tunes?

Your songs are great, really like them (:

Honestly while I appreciate the honesty keep in mind 98% of us are not trying to make money off this nor do we have that expectation. Even those at the top who charge money (Omni & Silva off the top of my head) really need to be careful with putting that as their main motivation. In a perfect world it would be nice for artists to make a living on their music (even Brony musicians) but there's very few who I would ever consider ever paying for and expecting that they deserve it whereas others don't rubs me a bit the wrong way. My recommendation is don't expect us to support you financially. We'll emotionally support you if you stick around and contribute here of course. I've subscribed so i can check out your music as its above par. but please reign in those goals you have as going to college and getting a paying job are much more realistic then making a living as a musician by putting out pony music. :D

I need subscribers for my music. I don't make pony music because I enjoy it, i make it because it's gotten me more of an audience than I've gotten since I started making music when I was 8. before flutterstep, I had never gotten more than 200 views on anything on any site.

Honestly then you're doing it wrong. Don't get involved in making pony music if you don't enjoy making it, being part of the community and contributing to that community (not just wanting others to listen to you but wanting to listen to others), and enjoying what that entails. If you want to be a loner who asks for our support but gives nothing back and is in it for financial reasons and doesn't enjoy the show or the community....well i don't know what more i can say but you're being way too honest with us on selfish reasons really. I agree with you that its a great and wide audience but don't take advantage of that as some have done as that's just a really bad way to go about it. :(

Don't get me wrong, I will provide feedback to you all, but I just think its wrong that I don't get any attention if its not pony related. Its my art i should be able to do what I want to do with it instead of releasing track after track with pony vocals mixed in just to get recognized for all the work I put into my children.

Honestly, it sounds like you're in this for the wrong reasons then. I can see why you chose to use pony themes in your music, but it isn't the way to go. That's really all I can say. :\

How is it not the way to go? you want me to just go "oh yeah lalala this is so much fun. I haven't eaten in days, but this is just so much fun. I love making music that only a handful of people will hear!
