Official Discussion Thread (Ghost Edit)

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

Im probably just going to install Windows 7 instead.

I performed in two improv shows. I realize now I have 0 stage fight. Which translates to me not fearing public speaking. Which is nice tbh.

I also tried out for my school production and am casted as two parts in the play. Who knew I could act?
I didn't. Anyway that's what happened in my life on the surface.
The stress under that is actually overwhelming.

In supposed to teach someone how to use FL today. I should charge people.

You should put that in the music subforum. In this thread I'd consider it spamming tbh

So I've finally come to a decision. Hopefully at the end of this year, more likely mid first quarter next year, I will be moving to Sweden somewhat permanently. This will be the first major decision that is purely based around my career, other than university choice, and I hope it is the right one :) Which brings up something, would I needed to somewhat learn Swedish? Or is English common place enough for me to be fine?

I don't know if there's a common second language in Australia, but if there is, imagine a native speaker of that language traveling to Australia and trying to make their way through life. I would say trying to get around Sweden with English would be pretty similar. Not to mention, trying to learn the language is the a good way to start ingratiating yourself to the host society. Trying to learn the culture helps, too.

Honestly, moving between Germanic languages isn't exceptionally difficult. Swedish is also closer to English than, for instance, German, so there's less stuff to be confused by. It would definitely be worth your while to look into it. Plus, Swedish has the Sj-sound, which is super cool.

Most schools teach Chinese from grades 1 - 7 as part of standard curriculum here. I hear it's become a little more focal but basically most of us are just taught how to say "Hello", "How are you" and "I'm well" and some other stuff most of us forgot pretty quickly. With the amount of people immigrating here I'm thinking second languages are gonna become a little more important in the next 20 years or so

First off, good choice. Sweden is the best place on earth.
Secondly, everyone speaks English here. I knew several teachers who moved to sweden to teach at interantional schools who didn't know more than "Hej, hur mår du?". Atleast in cities people will know enough English to converse with.
One thing you might find annoying though, if you want to learn Swedish is that, if we hear your native toung isn't Swedish we will probably switch over to English... And we might even laugh at your attempts at Swedish... Sorry... But we kinda do that... Idk why.
Annyway. If you decide on Stockholm I'll give you a guided tour around all the most important subwaylines, and least important landmarks.

Its much cheaper to live in Sweden, food and other costs of living. This is because, along with other reasons,Norway is not in the EU, which also makes importtaxes pretty high. I always have to stay under a certain limit when ordering stuff from other countries to avoid massive tax penalties.

And if you're thinking about working in the music business, like recordingwise or so, theres like maybe at tops 30 possible positions to work in in the entire country. I was told this on like my first day of music production class...depressing.

Unemployment is very low though, and salaries, even for low position jobs are high, compared to neighbour countries

Culturewise, its pretty much the same as Sweden.

Norway is a nice place though, and people are generally nice. I dont think speaking english anywhere in northen europe should be a problem, as its taught in general education.

Learning the languages of scandinavian countries on a competent level isnt too difficult, but its hard to nail down stuff like pronouciation, melody and diverse arbitrary grammar.

The education system in this country is a little all over the place like that. It's kinda weird.

I learned something cool today.
So you know how there are famous or well known people in communities?
Like the living tombstone is well known brony musician. And Porter Robinson is a well known electronic musician. Not quite skirllex well known but people do certainly know him.
My art teacher is well known in the art community.
Like he is like the living tombstone for his community.
He has a website and stuff. The website is literally just his name.
He makes sculptures and paintings and draws. He does commissions for very expensive prices. Like, I could commission some artist to make an album cover for me for less than $100 and it could look amazing. He could do the same art and charge closer to $1000 just because of his name. He makes more money doing his art than he does from the school for teaching.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that.
I have a kind of close ish relationship with him. About as close as a student and teacher is allowed to get here in America. (My school was previously known as a school where teachers and students had relations. But then a new school formed from the building with new staff and its a pretty good school now.)
And he is the newest art teacher. And so far my favorite.
If you want to check out some of his art, you could look at the link.

So Queensland had its state elections today and I had to vote for the first time today (it's mandatory here). Basically the dude who's been in charge for the last few years is in the process of getting a massive 'get fucked' from his poll numbers. It's kinda satisfying to watch.
