At last, I have an unmixed demo of this track to share with you guys! It's the first of a series inspired by the Season 4 premiere that I'm working on.

Feedback is highly appreciated.

Dude. Duuuuuuude.

This is actually fantastic, especially for a WIP. I really love how well you've shaped the tension in this track - that's EXACTLY how to make use of good buildup and release. Makes the chord progression sound really powerful, and I must've had the biggest, dopiest grin on my face at 2:38 because it's just so satisfying to listen to!

Since I know this is still a WIP, here are a few things I think you can work on:

  • The choir in the beginning sounds a bit dry. By the sound of it it's a synthesized choir (possibly DSK ChoirZ? maybe?) so it's not going to sound absolutely realistic, and maybe you aren't going for an absolutely realistic sound, but right now it does come off as a bit cheap and doesn't really fit with the rest of the song - the transition from the intro is actually a bit jarring. I'm not saying you should replace it but it could do with a bit of processing.
  • The snare also sounds a little dry. I would try some wide reverb.
  • The lead at 1:50 bothers me a bit. It might just be a mixing thing, since the lead appears to be almost entirely mid and low-mid which causes some muddiness, but maybe the lead itself could be more harmonically rich.

I'm actually really psyched to hear this as a finished product because it's great. I think my favorite part about it is that I can totally hear the tension of the S4 premiere. It's really, really refreshing to hear instrumental music that's actually able to tell a story that well after seeing so many "pony in name only" tracks in the fandom.

Thanks for the critique! I'll take note of those points!

(Also: yep, that is DSK Choirz.)
