Shards of Disharmony

Shards of Disharmony is a compilation album, or rather, a series of compilation albums. Each one has a theme based on a different antagonist from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Each album will contain a different genre that reflects the character. For instance, the Discord album might have hardstyle and gabber while the Chrysalis album might have neurofunk and dubstep. It all depends on what music gets submitted.

All these albums will be released at the same time in March of 2014. If you're a musician, go make a song in your own style. It doesn't have to be about the the villain corresponding to the album your song goes in, in fact, it doesn't have to be about a villain at all. Just make a song and when it's ready, submit it. More information on where you can submit your song will be released later. Once we have your song, we will decide which album it goes in based on what your song sounds like.

What are some of the goals of the Shards of Disharmony?

Well our first goal of this project is to facilitate a healthy environment for musicians to learn from one another. We want to go back to how it was back in season one. We encourage all of our musicians to interact with one another and help each other make the best possible tracks this fandom has ever heard.

Our second goal is to raise money for two causes. The first of these is to get as my musicians as possible to Midwest Bronyfest in Kansas City. We are working closely with convention staff to help stretch our donation dollars even further and also add some benefits to the musicians just for showing up. The second of these causes is what ever money is left over from the first will go to a charity called "Child's Play". Child's Play is an organization that seeks to improve the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game industry and the power of play. Last year Midwest Bronyfest raised $1,606.00 and donated it to the cause, we aim to add another digit to that number with Shards of Disharmony.

Awesome! I just want to reiterate that your song doesn't have to be about a villain. You can make it about whatever you want. What your song is about has nothing to do with which album your song will go in. It's the genre that determines which album it goes in. Just wanted to say that because in your reply it sounds like you might be thinking that your song has to be about a villain. A lot of people seem to be confused about that. We'll be putting up an FAQ soon to address this sort of thing.

Indeed this does sound VERY interesting =) And I am always willing to join projecs raising money for charity =D

Now, me being a relatively new musician, I can't really guarentee I'll be able to produce a track with the quality you may be looking for before the deadline because I am still very much in a learning process here.
But if I somehow do churn out something before then that actually hits the quality mark I have created in my head, then I'll be sure to remember this project ;)

(also, I would totally be available to sing vocals for anyone who might be needing them for their track. Its quite apperant that this project is encoutraging collaberation, and since my strengths lie more in singing and songwriting as opposed to musical production, I would most definetly be willing and available for anyone who is searchig for a vocalist )

Well I just put my submission in. Almost didn't get it done because I was distracted by other projects. There was a second rock song that I was unfortunately not able to finish but oh well.

They have their own forum, which has a reasonable amount of activity, considering it's dedicated to a single project. The deadline was Feb 28th with a release planned for March 24th :)

Alright we have an update. I apologize for neglecting to update this thread but with a week left before the album release, it's time for some more information!

First, I'll address a few frequently asked questions. First, the album is coming out on the 28th. Not the 24th. There was a mistake in the calendar. We apologize for that confusion. Also, the original plan was to put out multiple albums, each with around 10 songs. Unfortunately, we didn't get enough submissions for this to work so, we've condensed it into a single album that will be released on the 28th of March.

We do have long term plans on making another album with similar goals and we'll start a new thread with information about that when the time comes so if you missed out on Shards of Disharmony, don't worry. You'll get another chance soon.

But, shouldn't the album be up for a Pay What You Want-model instead?
