Re: Poll: MLR Around The World - which USB?

Postby ExoBassTix » 26 Jul 2013 13:19

I'm creating a poll soon (probably after the first one ended) in which you can tell me you want in.
This includes sending me your address to a mailbox made specifically for MLRATW.

So, my current plan:
After the first poll (RD or TS USB), I will make a new one, containing more details, and the question: "do you wanna join?"
I'll include a little form for you to mail me.
This will also have to happen within a certain set of time (I'll probably make this somewhat long so everyone will be able to see it).

After that time, when I got the whole list of participant, I will talk with my dad, and he will create a website (well, actually just a sub-directory on one of his own websites) where I will put all addresses in, though locked with passwords.
On the USB will be instructions for how to get the generator spit out an address.
Don't worry about that, the system will be tested, everything will be clear when you see it, and I will make sure that no address repeats itself.

Once the USB and the website are finished, I will create the big MLRATW discussion thread, where we can keep track of the whereabouts of the USB. In it, you can read the rules for the USB stick (they are also on the USB stick itself, in .txt format), you can talk about the USB in general, and you can tell us when you got it. You may tell us who it will be sent to next, but you may also keep it secret to play with the element of surprise.
This all, of course, will also be put in the big thread.

Okay, that's out.
I want you to know that I can't be online in weekends (house rule), but I'll try to be online anyways (because I can stretch time and I might need to go to the toilet).
And also, somewhere soon, probably in 2 weeks or so (really no idea), I won't have WiFi for a few days. This means that I can still be online with my iPhone's 3G, but I'd like to tell you this anyways, as it might gradually slow things down for me.

I hope that I have covered all wanted information with this post.

To clear up some confusion, I'm gonna explain once more what exactly the idea is.
It's all about fun, to have this USB stick and make it go around the world. It's a sort of challenge.

The rules around what you can put on the USB stick will be made public later. They'll also be on the USB stick in .txt format.

LFP wrote:I'd advice against using a randomized to pick all which person who it gets shipped to next next.
Ex: I live in Sweden and gets picked, there is another person in Sweden who also entered but the USB is traveling to Australia first because he/she got picked next =\

I agree, I'll ask my dad if he can come up with something that makes sure that it randomizes only the countries (as in, it first checks if there are other people in the country, and it gives them first, and if there's no-one left in the country, then does it randomize completely).
Does that sound right?

That sounds like an awesome idea to me!
If you can pay for the delivery, go for it!

And yea, I've come to the conclusion that it's best to randomize only country-wise.
This does mean that all Dutchies here are lucky firsts o3o

I would once again like to repeat, rules regarding what can and can't be put on the USB will follow in the big discussion thread (so, after the second poll).

Dashie!

also, if you haven't already, we should figure out if there is going to be something specific we want each person to put on the usb, or if it's just whatever we want (in that case we should list some rules about what can't be put on it)

and how are the files going to be organized? Is it like, we receive the usb, make a folder with our name/alias as the title, and put stuff in there? Or were you going to do some sort of guessing thing?

we should all drop a 10-30 second beat at 128 bpm into a folder on the flashdrive and at the end we put them all together

eery wrote:idk, I feel that could be kinda cool instead of just having a random usb stick floating about with no real purpose.

i think the purpose was to put our face on the flash drive

Actually the original idea was to send the usb around. Then you take a picture of it in your studio or you holding it. Post that in the thread then put a random file on the stick. What the file is should be a secret so only you and people who have received the stick know what it is.

-Put pictures of our faces on it
-Put pictures of the usb drive in cool places around the world on it
-Put bits for a collaborative song on it

These all sound like cool ideas to me, why not all of them?

Image

EDIT: Also, rather than have a web app thing to randomize addresses, what if we just had a list of everyone that wants to participate, and each person just PMs their address to the person who's supposed to send it to them? It could be grouped by location so that people who live in, for example, Sweden, can send it to eachother before sending it to the next person outside of that general area. Just a thought.

The idea i had in mind was to make a little drone synth, or buy one. And send that around and people post either a song where they using it or a video of them using it. And to make sure it doesnt do what the tri wave did i was gonna get a proper metal case for it.

Seriously sounds cool from what I've read so far, as long as it's not just faces, because I quite like the idea of putting a piece of music in there too along with other things. I mean why not show your city off too? Show the land you call your home. I'm sure people would love to see where LFP lives in Sweden, I'm sure that place looks amazing.
