Hey, I have a WIP here if anyone's interested: http://www.mediafire.com/?f1uckkbb7axns2u
I tried to go for a classic Kode9 sound mixed with a heavy DMZ sound and some slightly more 2 Step-ish drums. Some constructive criticism would be nice if I could get any :)
I like music, and I hope that music likes me back.

Just a bit of advice for posting: if you're going to post a download link instead of a stream, at least don't upload the lossless file.

Really nice demo, though. I really love this kind of music. :D The only thing I didn't like was the long break before the bass came in. Have the sub come in sooner.
Besides that, I'd say this is worthy of Eight:FX and Get Darker.
I always enjoy doing something until I have to.
Good thing I'm supposed to be doing stuff other than music.

Hmm, that is a point, I'll put up MP3's for previews in the future. The long break is intentional, because I'm gonna have some vocals come in at that point and segue into the sub bass. Great to hear you think it's good, though. I haven't heard of Eight:FX or GetDarker before, so I'll check them out.

Eight:FX made the best compilation album ever. It's called 50 Dubstep Classics, and it's 50 of the best songs I've heard for only $8. Buy it.
And your demo here is definitely Eight:FX style, which is why I like it so much.

Best compilation album ever, you say? It'd have to be better than FabricLive 50 and Logical Progression Volume 1 to have that title. Pretty tall order if you ask me. ;)

But in all seriousness, I'm listening to the previews of the tunes on that album on Amazon right now. They all sound really good, so I might well get it at some point. And if you think my tune is up to the same standard then that sure is a good sign, and a nice compliment. Thanks!

It's a WIP, so nothing is finalized (obviously). Any and all constructive criticism would be great!
(It's in mp3 form because WAV takes forever to upload :3)

One thing I'm not sure about is the snare/clap. The snare seems a bit too snappy for this track, so I may change it.

Feedback pl0x?

Okay, a little critique follows:

I'm not too sure whether the timbre for the pads is quite so satisfying for the intro section, they seem rather dry. The chord sequence of these pads is rather strange, it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. It'd also be nice if you played around with the rhythm of the pads, too, to create a little more interest. The drum pattern is good, although some reverb or delay would be welcome on the snare. I'd also put a medium swing on the 16th notes (assuming that it's at ~140bpm rather than ~70bpm) of the percussion to give it that hearkening-back-to-Garage feel in Dubstep. The noise filter sweeps aren't bad, but they're not a feature that's typically in classic Dubstep. I'm not saying to get rid of the sweeps, just that they might inflict on the 'authenticity' of the classic sound. It's your call.

I'm not too sure why there's a temporary tempo change at the bass drop, but it actually doesn't sound too bad. It gives the track somewhat of an Autonomic-ish feel (think Distance - Sky's Alight). Again, not quite the classic Dubstep sound, but it works. However, I think when it slows back down again it takes out the excitement of the tempo change. I'd say either keep it at the same speed throughout or keep the sped up section and maintain that tempo to the end. It's harder to make a track go slower and make it work well than it is to make a track go faster. Oh, and as YakFace said, the bass needs to be a bit bassier. Just give it a boost in the 50hz area and it should be right as rain. Good call on using a Reese bass, too.

All in all, there are some flaws but this track really does have potential. If you could make the whole thing as well-executed as the beginning of the bass drop section, then you'll be armed with quite a tune. Hope this critique helps!

This critique does help!
I believe the track is at 130, but I may be wrong, I can't get on my comp at the moment. As for the swing on the 16th notes, I was at first thinking I couldn't do that (cuz I use Reason), but then I thought of a way, so I'll experiment with that. When you say the chord patterns don't feel like they're going anywhere, do you mean just in the intro, or all the chords in the song? I'll be honest, I think I left those chords in from the placeholders I had while creating the pad :)

After Yak's suggestion, I did boost the sub a bit and added some reverb to the snare. Not so sure I still like it, so I may end up replacing it altogether. The clap I'm pretty happy with after adding some reverb, but I can still change it depending on what people think. I also might alter the filter sweeps a bit, just cuz they're so typical and uninteresting. Just a question though... where did I use a reese? Cuz if I did it was unintentional :)

I just mean the chords in the intro, for the first 32 bars, they get better from there on. The bass straight from the drop just sounds like a Reese made from sine waves to me, and the lower synth before the drop actually sounds like a Reese with sawtooth waves. Even if it wasn't intended, keep it. It works. Glad I could help, too. ^_^

Thanks :3

The lower synth before the drop is actually designed as a reese. The bass after the drop is just a 3 octave sine spread, lowpassed at 100 hz and sidechained to the kick. But yeah, I'll play around with the intro chords and stuff then I'll post another WIP, maybe to soundcloud this time so my followers know I'm not dead :3

I've got a WIP, but I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm making this song for the experience (and for fun!) more than anything else. Honestly, I don't think I'll make it on the album (depends how high the standards are I guess). But that's fine, because all I care about is improving. So critique away please!

Edit: some people I showed it to said I should add reverb and dynamics to the drums. So that is noted.

I'll give it a shot. I'm not too keen on composing the EDM glitch style brostep so this is right up my alley.

I've been very lazy.

I also just did this little joke song: http://soup2504.tumblr.com/post/3737253 ... the-forums

However... I think I might actually turn this into something serious. Maybe I'll do it for this album who knows ladgkwrhjk

Very nice! and my thoughts on the mix were that the crowd noises...I think thats what they, stand out in the mix wee bit, if you brought their levels down just a tad it would work really well! Maybe you trying adding a little bit more movement in the drums at some points, like a little bit more hats or rides here or there. Very cool ending section though! Me likes.

Also my advise on mixing is just mess around with the levels until you think they sound good! Maybe even use a reference track that you like and try to emulate how its mixed. I like to compare how my tracks sound verses professional recording, that way I can get a little sense of how a track is "suppose" to sound. I do this while mastering a lot as well.

Alright!

I was about to fix it right now, but when I tried opening the .flp, it wouldn't find the files that I used for the crowd noise and uplifter. As it turns out, I accidentally removed 10 gb worth of sample packs from my computer, thinking I was deleting the .zip files for them (I was freeind up space on my hard drive. I DID remove the .zip files, but I also had the big folder with all of the sample packs in them selected when I deleted them)

So now I have to re-download them before I can fix this song. uuggggggGGGGGHHHHHH

I started working on something for this a few days ago... I'm henestly not sure if its even the correct genre for this album...

https://www.dropbox.com/s/iabp8k42b8551hy/Oldschool%20dubstep%20Wip.mp3

Its very much a wip (gonna add a bit more intro and vary the snare a bit more, and replace the electronic drumms with recordings, and probably gonna do a lot about the cymbals, and make it longer...), and I more or less only want to know if its the right genre. But ofcource, feedback would be welcome.
