Post A Picture Of How You Arrange Your Songs

From scales and semitones to pentatonics and cadence patterns. It's all about the science behind the expression, here.

Another topic... yup yup.

Basically as title says, post a screenshot of what your work looks like while in studio. It'd be interesting to see how everyone arranges their patterns/melodies/automations in their DAWS.

It can be an old song, a WIP, whatever, just make sure it's an up-to-date arrangement (how you do things nowadays).

Me, FL Studios.

This is how I've gotten used to arranging things, I like my music to be very well organized when I put it together, I think it's a good habit even if it takes time away.

An old dubstep rap project that has yet to come out. I've got more organized stuff, but this is standard fare for me. >_>

This is basically what I do now

(for Ponies of War, a pretty simple song: Drums, 2 guitars, bass, vocals + harmony, & guitar solo)
Image

Here's what I used to do

(Princess of the Night; I basically just knew a track by its position in the timeline and its waveform I guess, if that failed I would just listen to it in solo. Protip:this sucks, organize yo business.

Seriously, though, I generally keep things so minimal that I never have enough tracks to lose anything. I'll often put automation clips on the same track as whatever it's automating if it's the only one on that track, and I almost never label things because I almost never have to. Then again, I'm so lazy that I don't make nearly as much music as I could be making.

I like to keep things simple.

It's changed a bit since this, but not much else I've made used this much automation.

Edit: Replaced it with a newer song.

I just realized that I haven't released any decent projects on my new computer, but I guess this will work:

Image

OK fine, I'll actually show you guys. It's kinda embarrassing tho.

Here's an actual project I did. It was for that trench warfare toastbeard a few weeks back. I submitted that "blatant insult to orchestral music". Maybe when I finish my new project I'll post a pic of it here.

It doesn't actually fit, even on my monitor, because I have so many tracks, but here is a partial screenshot of Arrivederci, the final track count being somewhere in the region of 170 excluding auxiliary tracks.

I hate how I can't squish the tracks smaller in Reaper. I have to use the marker tool, just so I don't get lost in the project file. =P Part of the project file for Sleep.

Usually I don't change the tracks width, so my workspace looks like this:

This is the project for the unreleased yet track called Rise

let's see:
23 sound sources, 5 groups, 3 return tracks to the master
Drums sorted into two racks, one with 7 pads, 15 samples + separate reverb and the other with 4 operator-based sounds

(GOD THERE'S SO MUCH FL)

This is a bit old, but here's what I do - arrange the blocks and add extra MIDI and automation as needed.

1. Make a bunch of clips
2. Add follow actions
3. Make all clips colorful (this is the most important step)
4. Hit the red button
5. Export

Why I love patterns.
And parent midi.
All things that keep me from flipping tables.
Then again, seeing all the individual elements, that wouldn't work with a lot of the stuff here.

Thank you dual monitors. I tend to be messy and usually organize after its finished plus add bits of gradient just because I think its "cute." Other than that, simple and old fashioned =P

USE THE DETACHED OPTION!!! Maximize FL Studios for 1 monitor, then detach your windows (Mixer, Playlist, etc) and move them to the other monitor. No more annoying and unnecessary FL toolbars!

My music is progressive. I do keep a lot of my drums inside folder tracks now which meant Ruby Skies and Violet Clouds was 70 something tracks instead of 110 that would have been.

I wish I had 2 monitors...

The software I use for multi-monitor-displays allow you to stretch the whole program [FL studio's desktop] over both screens. I was surprised at how helpful it was to have the sequencer, piano roll, and mixer on one side, and the playlist on the other side.

Also:
You FL noobs, make a preset!!!!!!!!!!!! Just make a .flp with colour and channel coding, pre-made mixer buses, and/or your main set of percussion, already mixed well, and then save it into your \projects\presets folder. The next time you select it as your "new project from template" every time you create a new project, it will use that template, time and organization saved.

Picture: I'm just going to link you because I use 2 monitors and this picture is huuuuuuuuge.
Well I'm pretty much done with this site (it wasn't about the April Fool's joke I actually loved that). If for some reason somebody wants to contact me or something (not like any of you even care lol):
