Remix War 4 - Intermission Video (Locked For Posterity)

Remix War 4 - Intermission Video (Locked For Posterity)

Postby Interrobang Pie » 16 Sep 2011 03:48

Intermission videos will have to be made now, since the Remix Wars are getting very long and tiring. It would be better if we could use our own content too, SO what I did is make a short, 20 second MIDI loop.

So where do you lot come in? All I need you to do is download the MIDI, and remix it in your own style. What I will then do is have each remix play one after the other. This means that you need to keep to some limits so that the remixes blend in better (since the contrast in styles will be a big enough seam). Here are the rules:
  • No changing the chord progression (but you are allowed to alter the placement of the notes - here's an example).
  • No changing the tempo (which is 90BPM) or the length (~20 seconds)
You CAN, however, write your own melody over the top, if you want, and you may edit the bassline and percussion all you like.

It'd be really great if we could get a lot of people in on this! Have fun, and post a URL to the .mp3 once you're done remixing.

EDIT: Adding an intro and/or outro could really help with the blending in of styles, even if it is just a note held for a half beat or whatever. See what you can do.

Current Ordering
Andy Feelin' > General Mumble > Jackle App
MrPickle > Aussie > Foozogz

Fragmented Pieces
Dr_Dissonance, Interrobang Pie, Senator Myth, Silva Hound, X-Trav

I forgot to mention that you're allowed to change the bassline and percussion also.

Some of you might need to remove the repeating note things too to make it fit in with your own style better (really have no idea what to call it so here's an example). Sorry if that wasn't clear - the previous MIDI was only an example of what could be done rather than a strict template.

I think I will also order them by genre rather than by artist name. Now I've just got to figure out an order.

Is this going to end up like those moments you are put on hold to a call centre and get played the same one tune for like ten minutes?

Yes, but you'll have a break in between. I think I'd prefer 2.5 + 2.5 hours than 5 hours.

I figured a cheesy sample at the beginning would make a transition less awkward, but I can render a version without it if you want. :)

EDIT: wait I'm going out of town tomorrow, so I wouldn't be able to send you anything else right away. Have a sample-less version right now, just use whichever one you wanna use.

The intermission stands at 3:40 long. Current order is:
Senator > Feelin > Mumble > Jackle > Silva - BREAK - Pickle > Aussie > Glaze > Fooz > Pie

We need something with some amount of supersaws to blend Silva and Pickle together, cause right now it seems rather sudden. Of course, I could just improvise some really cheesy drop.

(Thank you all for doing these, by the way).

Urgh, my part seems so quiet compared to the others. May wanna "loudness war" it up a bit. Or it could just be Pickle's supersaws playing with my ears. I don't even know.

Also I think the transitions are fine as they are!
