<Pony><Original><WIP> Her Growth (Orchestral)

Hi all,

First of all. Thanks to everyone who helped me with my last song. It somehow managed to get onto EQD :)

Now... onto the important part. I've started working on a new song using a melody and chord progression that i had devised using block chords and a single voice melody. This is my attempt to arrange some of it for an orchestra.

My main concern right now is mixing the instruments properly. I've been looking at several guides on mixing but all the guides I find are for electronic music which heavily involves the kick. Does anyone have a link to a guide on mixing orchestral instruments?

The melody is not yet finished and this is just a small section.

How does my WIP sound? Is it good enough to continue? I was thinking of scrapping it and moving onto something quick for this weeks Toastbeard :)

Thanks!

Edit: Soundcloud seems to kill quality so i thought i'd try EQBeats. Does it show up if it isn't published?

That sounded really cool and if I were you I wouldn't scrap it, it definitely has the potential to become a really great song.

From a mixing standpoint I've heard that you are meant to mix the instruments in to a standard orchestral seating plan, so listening to it is like you are really sitting in a concert hall.

I haven't read this article but some of it might help you

Also if I were to make a suggestion, add some variation and flair into your strings, I found an awesome video showing all the different methods of doing that, but I can't for the life of me find it, so I guess I'll just have to suggest adding in some countermelodies and runs and such.

Thank you. I already have the instruments panned to the orchestral seating arrangement, Its just the right level of volume for each I need to adjust I believe? I will see if I can find this string flair and variation video somewhere. :)
