You could say that i am sort of a jack of all trades. I consider myself pretty good at creating backing tracks, the instruments in the back. When it comes to melodies, i'm not that bad, but i could be much better at it.
What i'm really bad at is creating bridges and things to link to parts of the song together.
Most of the time i don't use bridges whatsoever, and just jump to the other part at once.

I'm great at melodies, and intros, and buildups, and all that stuff.
Pretty much everything after the drop, I'm shit at.

I can make some pretty good rhythm guitar riffs, and then I get to the melody and it tends to ruin it. I'm getting much better though!

you can usually make good melodies based on references to the base of a song (if you're ever stuck you can use this to dig yourself out)

Not sure what you mean by "melodies based of references to the base of the song".

Could you try rephrasing?

My BIGGEST weakness? Synth patch programming. Coming up with that unique sound. I can do it with guitar, but the synth occasionally eludes me...

My weakest skills would have to be EQing and mastering, as well as anything having to do with editing vocal tracks. I absolutely suck at working with vocals :(

melodies fo' sho'

those are a pain.

edit: can't do dubstep, or read sheet music. I can add drums and bass to just about anything, just not like dnb or dubstep

Since mixing and melodies seem to be difficult, maybe we should just have 2 separate forums for mixing/mastering and melodies. Think about it o-o

Yes sir, you have my vote in this. Perhaps not 2, but at least one dedicated to the witchcraft and sorcery known as mixing and mastering.

My composition isn't bad. I can create a catchy melody, and my drum patterns aren't great, but they're getting better. My weakest qualities lie in mixing/mastering/eqing/all things sound-quality oriented. That and I'm a complete noob at FLStudio. That seems to be a hindering quality of mine.

compressors
limiters
sidechain
eq'ing
filters

These are the demons you must slay if you want to succeed.
Jk: I have no idea what i'm doing.

I have managed to write (kissing own plot, by the way), some amazing music. It has taken me 2 years to become a mediocre producer, but my ideas have always been very original. I desperately need to work on Mastering, EQing and maybe less repetitiveness.

Sound design, hands down. I can write decent sounding things, but the actual sounds used are never satisfactory. I have about 20 songs going that have a very solid foundation if I could just find or create decent and/or inspiring sounds.

Mmm, I did remember one other thing, when Thorinair pointed it out.

I suck a layering... just about anything. But in particular, layering low-mid-high basslines and kicks. I'm actually in the process of running through several tutorials detailing different methods on how to do this.

I can make amazingly great plain compositions.
I'm bad at all the technical parts or whatever, like, I have no clue what any of these things are;
compressors
limiters
sidechain
eq'ing
filters

I thought a limiter was the same thing as a compressor, and now I'm lost as to what a filter is. I'm pretty horrible at anything that isn't the actual composition itself.
