The Drop 100 Challenge

Postby CaptainFluffatun » 29 Jun 2012 23:03

I am an orchestral producer.

I like dubstep.

The Draw 100 Challenge gave me the idea to make a 16-bar drop every day.

Basically, in the Draw 100 Challenge, you're supposed to draw something you're not good at 100 times to get better. Maybe start with a reference, then free-hand it later on. The principle is the same for music. Try a genre you're not too good at, and make 100 16-bar phrases. Perhaps the "reference" in the beginning could be presets, and then you "free-hand" your synths later on.

And let me clarify: despite the name, it doesn't have to be dubstep. That's just an area I like that I wish I were better at. Perhaps you're a house artist willing to try your hand at classical. The genres don't matter, just try something different c:

I'll start us off~

This, 100% this,

On a serious note, this sounds like a good idea. The worst thing that could happen is that I create ear destroying noise. So why not.

Hey, some people like ear-destroying noise :> But just make sure you're working towards your goal, and not straying too far.

I think I'm going to alternate between the different styles that I want to do,
Electro House, Trance, Dubstep etc etc.

It'll be a good learning experience and a whole lot of fun.

Constructive criticism is more than welcome. I embrace it.

I rarely make any sense when I post from my phone. And I post from my phone.

This sounds like something I could do. I'll have to aim for 6 a week, though, due to Thursday being very, very full.

Just trying 100 phrases and arrangements should be good for me. I'll try splitting them up to 50 on sibelius and 50 on fl.

Maybe I'll try 100 dubstep drops... Once I'm back in the mood to do anything music related, I'll try this.
