What do you call music made by Bronies?

We all love it, otherwise it's unlikely you'd be here. Talk about the show and the fanbase surrounding it. Brony music discussions encouraged.

Pony music is what I call it when I refer to the fandom's music, but that's pretty rare, I just call it by artists's name most often. (Toaster's, Eurobeat's, Alex's, Makkon's, TriOHGODWHYISHEGOFUCKINGGREATangle's)

I just call it Pony Fan Music when referring to it, like when someone asks what I'm listening to.

We might also ask ourselves 'What makes music Brony music? Is it a definite theme? Or simply the artist being a brony? Or the song title?' I could essentially rename anything I've made with an episode/character/fandom tie in, but would that qualify it?

My opinion is that a Brony is a brony, and if the song has tie-ins/samples/inspiration from the episode, then it is simply a song with those qualities.

Brony Music / Pony Music samples the show (with vocal samples, or remixed show songs, etc) or is music influenced by it (and therefore with a name, melody, youtube art that signifies how that is the case and shows that tie from the show to the musical piece).

Just taking some non-pony tracks you've done before or after and renaming them with pony titles and adding art really can be a cop out if the music doesn't sound like the inspiration they are saying. This show has unlimited amounts of stuff that can be sampled with plenty of characters, episodes, and plotlines to echo so there really shouldnt be a lack of places where people can look for influences for a track or how to make it tie in. Sure a brony artist can make an obvious non-pony track ("Like a Spinning Record") and people won't necessarily discount it as non-pony but it adds to the confusion of what make a track part of or outside this scene. I'd recommend that if somethings non-pony just say it is and if something is influenced try to give a quick description of how and why. Overall its not a huge deal unless your trying to get something on EqD and its not pony enough....

I agree, it would be a cop out. We all know when a track is pony or non-pony, and saying otherwise would be stupid. Especially since sharing non-pony music is allowed here on MLR. There's really no reason to ever lie about it. =P
I'm not worried, I have plenty of ideas for fresh tracks... 'Blank Flank Blues' is an idea I'm currently working on... got some lyrics, got a melody, but I'll be DAMNED if I can figure out how it should sound =P

I would be more likely to call the music "pony music" than "brony music." The former implies music involving ponies, while the latter merely implies music made by bronies. "Ponycore" is also a decent blanket term, as the suffix -core can be used to apply to metal, hip-hop, and elecronica music.

Calling their music anything other then music just because it was made by someone with interest in a show undermines their artistic integrity. All in all it's kinda dumb to judge someone by subject matter and not by the actual sound of the music.

I know we've pretty much been a broken record here but when you start calling music made by bronies like "pony music" or "ponycore" or something that takes the focus off of the actual music and puts it on the ponies. If ponies are the only thing that makes you like an artist's music you might as well not listen to them, you can get plenty of your "pony fix" from the show itself.

No one's a brony musician - the whole concept is silly and restrictive. Everyone here though is a musician who also happens to be a brony

Well right but if we're all writing music inspired by the show that is THE commonality. That music is widely diverse and often very different from each other but its still inspired by the show. Just because you might call it brony music or pony music does nothing to belittle the musician or what they do. Sure its a little restrictive as you're stuck with having to establish a conceptual link back to the show (or not if you wanna put out something non-pony).

Are we bronies? yes
Are we musicians?: yes
Are we therefore Brony Musicians?: well of course. Linking those 2 words doesn't massively change anything. A musician still has to be good at what they do for anyone to check out their music and want to do so again. This site is music first and it should be as watching the show is the easy part but it's difficult and time consuming to be a good musician. This site and always will be about perfecting that craft and getting that help on the music to do so.

Well, when I'm talking with brony friends of mine, I just call it music, and I call brony musicians, "musicians", but when I'm with non-brony friends, I be sure to specify that it's "brony music" or was made by a "brony musician". I don't really know why, it's just what I do.

If it's music inspired by mlp, I usually just call it pony music. If it's not, I just call it music.

If it's not very good, sometimes I just call it noise.

Music made by Bronies = New "name" track. It doesn't matter to me if it's pony or not, I just like the style of Brony artists.

If something's an organized collection of sounds to express a feeling, emotion or idea arranged by a person (or even a machine in some cases) then it's music.

You have no right to deem what is and isn't music just because you don't enjoy it yourself, now that doesn't mean everything's good music but it is still music, not noise.

I have a folder on my external HDD called 'Brony music,' with everything by NACP, a bunch of Chain Algorithm, the first Remix War, Jackle App's older Bandcamp stuff, etc. But on my iPod, it's sorted by actual genre just like everything else. Awesome though they may be, ponies are not a genre.

Well, if you want me to be all serious about it, I could go into a discourse on why noise and music aren't a binary concept, or even mutually exclusive terms.

But I'd rather let my joke stand as what it is.

I personally think that brony music collabs are expanding music a bit further. Hell, we all like ponies, so that gives us something unique in common to work with. Collabs are then 20% easier as a result. Brony music is a pretty good breeding ground for interesting music if you ask me.
