Official Discussion Thread (Ghost Edit)

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

I have a great story that will give a little insight about my character and the evil inside me. :4

I began workin again a week ago. There are some new people working at my workplace now. I decided I was gonna prank one somehow.
Last Friday night, a bunch of guys including mysel had an airsoft war at my workplace. Someone left their gun here. I found it. And so I decided I was gonna shoot the new guy in the butt.
He was outside working on the washbay. Another coworker goes outside near him coming from behind. The new guy had the pressure washer on so it was loud. There is a hole in the wall for the hose to go from the inside to the outside so I shot the gun outside through that hole.
The new guy got angry at the guy who was outside.
Here is where the story gets better.
The guy that the new dude was mad at ratted me out. The new dude was going over to the bosses up in the front office to tell on me. They were not there, so a minor boss was to handle this. When the new dude started telling on me, he was so angry he could not hardly Even speak. He told on me.
I walk by that minor boss and he calls me over. He tells me not to shoot him again. Then he tells me about how the new dude was being a baby. He said that he had to hold back his laughing when he was ratting me out.
Later that day, I was talking with the big bosses. They also found this to be the funniest story. One said not to do it again just so they won't have to deal with crying 20 year olds.
My bosses love me.

(Also, just so everyone won't think of me as a complete dick, I'll add that I'm friends with everyone involved on this story. Including the guy I shot and the guy he yelled at when he was shot in the first place. Everything was cool between everyone within an hour.)

Another story, this time not original:

Two weeks ago from today, bodies just started disappearing out of thin air.
Nobody know where they went. They left no trace, not even their clothing.
Last night. The death count was over half the population.
But then it came to a complete stop.
Nobody has disappeared since.
Nobody knows where the bodies have gone
Nobody knows what's goin on.
But the one thing we do know...
...is that we all have small penises.

I just came to a freaming crazy realization. Tirek was in the pony.mov series. That was out at least a year prior to the season 4 finale.

Like, ya tirek was in older generations but, this was a parody of the current gen of mlp.
Anyway, I just thought it was cool he added tirek even though tirek wasn't a thing yet for current bronies.

Yeah, just the other day, it was misbehaving, and being really flakey. Dunno why. It's fine most of the time though.

I see that biggle made an edit to a post and that someone is apologizing to me. Not sure entirely though if there is some sarcasm in anything or not. I'm not accusing, I'm just slow.
Anyway, I got a PM saying that I posted a story that can't really have any responses to and this is the discussion thread therefore you must be able to make discussion out of stuff. Well, I want to apologize to anyone who felt that I was being a hypocrit because of my story about me. My intention with this would be for other people to tell stories about their lives too and compare between them. Etc. so, here is the formal apology. Sorry

The way I see it, people usually are only ever interested in discussing small things. Talks about life happen in the venting/hugging thread with less views for sure.

Also yesterday I had an audition at a Producer academy yesterday. Well that was one amazing experience. Normally they don't allow people under 18, but they do have exceptions for very talented, passionate underage people. That dude who showed me around in that small studio space (who was the only one there; very cool lad too) said he didn't have any doubt about me fitting on the academy :D
Then when I showed him my work in progress of Dynamic Forces Spur Change (which already was an entire experience on it's own to listen to with the huge sub-heavy B&W monitors they had installed <3 ), his reaction and amazement made me shiver with giddy excitement. Told me he hadn't ever heard something like it before, and told me I should be proud of it.
He also has a 16-track tape deck from 1974 there (which actually came from a museum) which we messed with for a while. My dad who was accompanying me was looking at us talking like we were weird with our mutual affinity for sounds xD

His story did help me see the difference between producing and producing. You have producers like Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, etc. but you also have producers like "that dude who made Katy Perry's Dark Horse"; the studio dudes so to say. You get the difference. The academy I went to yesterday trains you towards the latter kind of producer, the "traditional producer." I'm gonna see if I can have a looksee at another academy who trains you to become the former kind of producer, a "modern producer."

But seriously though. If I were just gonna take this 2-year course of becoming a traditional producer, I'd
1) not have to worry about not getting another delay for obligatory education (which I need now to attend the CCL and not go to school);
2) not even be 18 yet and get a certificate that says I'm perfectly able to run a studio and support bands and singers alike. And if that were to happen, it'd certainly be a lot of yes good. Normaly people (in general) start their professional training at around the age of 18-21. I'd be done already with certificate et al :D

The other academy I'm gonna look at is, first of all but unimportantly, 5 times as cheap, and at the moment I guess that the direction of modern producer suits me just a bit better than traditional producer. This other academy also offers a certificate, and they also offer an agency for DJs and a label for producers.

Needless to say, I am HAPPY AND PROUD AS ALL FUCK! To have impressed that dude so, to be personally improving school-wise, just makes me so proud.

It was Gappy's birthday recently? huh, thats cool~ I guess I never really take the time to look up people's birthdays =P Though considering SGAP is like, one of my biggest inspirations, you'd think I'd maybe have thought about it before, but meh XP *shot*

Happy (late) Birthday to SGAP and Navy Pony then =) Also if I remember correctly, today is also Mogul Dash's B-day, so I'll be sure to message him with my traditional birthday wishes XP

Well after a week of stressing that there was a chance i might get laid off this week because my boss is in town and there's been all kinds of corporate rumors..... it turns out everything may be fine. I appear to be doing a good job, nothing come down the pipe, and they aren't concerned they are slower in my dept. Load off my chest, just wish i hadn't come up with a hundred terrible scenarios during these last 2 days. Sometimes i hate being a worry wort.

I know exactly what you feel. I have doomscenarios a LOT. There are only two pieces of advice I can give you, vent/hug thread or not.
However hard it is, work towards accepting that your mind went down that path however wrong it was. When you snap out of a doomscenario, or multiple, distract yourself with something you can easily sink into (which, for me, is drowning myself in music; which music I play depends on the doomscenario).

Everyones djs nowadays...and I wanna know why. Do you wish to express what you can't explain therefore clarity of mind? Cash? Acceptance? Rebellion? Individuality? Difference? A conveyance of truth through sound maybe...Please, enlighten me. For me: My band teacher said music theory would be too complicated for me: and when I couldn't get in I started writing instrumentals to show him what for, then I used it as a vent because I was teen: then I got over it and learned to control my emotions so I don't need it for that... so now I make it to convey a truth rather... whatever that is. It's basically: since radio's lame I make it myself. I do that alot. I fix alot of stuff around the house...I teach myself stuff...that's me basically. So what's your story?

Dj'ing is the closest way to get into music and control and make something using existing music. Taking your favorite tracks and making a comprehensive journey through them. Way before i discovered i could make my own music i simply found joy in dj'ing and its a great way to hear what you want and not to have to succumb to the radio or anyone else's control. To tell the story of your own listening habits and to have them be compltely unique from anyone else's. Going to a club and hearing your favorite tracks and discovering new ones as you dance the night away is one of the best expereinces of my life. To be the dj controlling that communal glee is akin to directing an orchestra and having an audience that feeds that joy back. That's why i love dj'ing.

I don't really DJ a lot, but I do have a dj controller laying around for when I feel like it.
When I do dj I do it cause I want to listen to my favourite music, and just pick out the best parts of them.

I prefer playing instruments though. Both DJing and playing an instrument are good ways of experiencing music. The difference to me is that playing an instrument both feels more independent, and it gives more room to experiment how it could sound.

I totally feel the vibe with what your laying down peeps. I play an instrument to it's clarinet...and yeah I just can't stand the radio...the songs on there are all about...well bad stuff in general. There's always that little suggestion you break up, do drugs, drink, be paranoid...all that in 5 minutes you know? I can Listen to two stations: 89.3 kuvo jazz, and 91.1 KLOVE...and that's hardly. i see alot of metal heads listening to screamo, AT WORK on a portable speaker. I try and respect taste but...oy...it's so angry. I digress though my jobs been O.K. to say the least. Have you ever been in auto pitlot when working, and then a melody just pops into your head like that?

I can't say I've ever done much to the effect of DJing - I come from a pretty deep-rooted background of playing the piano most of my life, and I've always been the sort of person to incorporate my own little details and affectations into pieces that I play, and in terms of performing in front of people, I don't think I could leave well enough alone to just do a regular sort of DJ set - I can't honestly see myself doing anything less personal and involved than a live mashup performance.

I guess I feel like, for me, it's always about coming up with my own stuff; if I want to share a narrative progression of other people's music, I'll just compile a playlist. If I really want to go HAM, I'll spend the extra 15 minutes concocting simple transitions. If I'm going to do some sort of live set, I want it to be personal, something I can feel like I've *created*, one way or another.

I can, however, totally relate to hating radio. The idea of just sitting there and having some stranger decide what top-40-hit song I'm going to listen to next, with no agency of my own, sounds absolutely absurd and unenjoyable to me. I'm really into self-determination and developing my own musical tastes and finding new music by myself - I don't know if I've listened to the radio a day in my life.

That said, I'm not at all averse to having other people pick out collections of music for me in certain contexts, like being sent a playlist by a friend, or listening to somebody else do DJ stuff (even if I wouldn't normally do it myself). The difference is that both the friend and the DJ are inherently more personal than a radio host, and less corporate/institutionalized/whatever. They're both compiling the track list, in one way or another, specifically *for* their small receiving audiences, and because the expectation is that you'll probably be there to listen all the way through, it tends to be more geared towards telling a cohesive chronological story in both cases than on the radio. Also, you have some power of your own; you can always modify your friend's playlist if you want, and you can often request songs for a DJ to play, even if it's ultimately up to them whether to go with your suggestion or not.
Notebook Memories, the debut album from yours truly, is currently up on my bandcamp for free. Any feedback, encouragement, hate mail, etc. is highly appreciated! Even just listening is pretty cool of you tbh.

I can't realy relate to hating radio... I mean, what they play is over all shit, and I do hate them for the themes of most songs... so I do hateit, but not realy, cause I still listen to it once in a while. I try to look at the bright side of things, like blurred lines, it's got horible lyrics, it's insanely repetetive, and pretty darn booring, but it does have a hell of a beat! That drumbeat! I could strutt around all day to that cause it's so catchy.

I guess I'm trained in the art of hearing what I want to hear instead of what I'm listening to :I

so I hate the radio, but not really... idk, I should sleep

I dislike radio, but then again there are rare moments when it gives me something good, like Chris Malinchak's So Good To Me (seriously, the talent drips off of that dude) and Route94's My Love (so cool they got popular, Route94's always been good). Also another track I hear a lot last time around (when I do hear radio; when I get brought to CCL usually) that I don't know the name of but daaaaaamn. Lush plucks and stuff, top production.
That aside, I find radio (as in, big national radio) to be bullshit. People who listen to it are usually just afraid little individuals. Wèèèèèh, different music, scary. Let's listen to Tsunami 100 times on one day (this happened on a radio station here when they did another edition of their fundraiser event) and dance ourselves silly in the tightest crowd ever because that track's popular.

Rant aside, I DJ because I want to, because I want to express myself, and because I want to promote the music I listen to on a daily basis, and it doesn't matter one bit which genre it happens to be.
Plenty of room to be creative. Two DJ mixes that I always use to point out how damn creative you can be with mixing:
https://soundcloud.com/jakazid/jakazid-party-2012-03-01-2014
https://soundcloud.com/chris-hartgers/5-uur-38-mix-1508
(Wait out the talking; basically, the dude's leaving 538, one of the two most successful radio stations in Holland, for a radio DJ career in England. He made a lot of 538's jingles (the jingles in this recording are all his) and mixes. He's the world's number one radio DJ (and nobody even knows his name, go figure), and he's saying goodbye by perfectly fitting the normal procedure of a DJ doing a mix of 3 tracks in 4 minutes or 4 tracks in 3 minutes: 15 tracks in 3,5 minutes. If you wanna have fun, try counting the different tracks you hear.)

So yeah. You could say I really enjoy DJ-mixing at times, when I have some inspiration. Still have to re-play (and record) my DnB/Jungle/Raggaejungle/Trap/Jazz mix I played a little while ago for the people at the CCL.
