Post A Picture Of How You Arrange Your Songs

From scales and semitones to pentatonics and cadence patterns. It's all about the science behind the expression, here.

Is it fine if we put the picture in a spoiler tag like what I've been doing in other threads?

I almost forgot about this thread! Here's Battle for Cloudsdale with all the folders closed so that everything fits in the window.

It seemed good to also include the piece itself.

Heh, I'm a big fan of themes that are much darker and easier on the eyes, myself. Definitely an area where I feel pretty jealous of a program like FL Studio!

It's just something that comes with time, in my experience. Eventually you start to layer sounds on top of each other and use more tracks for less noticeable atmospheric things, add more subtle percussion elements and whatnot. It all adds up. Not to mention a lot of it will depend on what genre you're making or what your workflow is.

But really, the number of tracks you've got going on isn't a big deal, and it isn't necessarily an indicator of how good or even complex a song is. Like, someone such as myself could be awful at sound design and end up having to load a bunch of different tracks and vsts and layer them all together to get the right sound, and look like their track is super complicated because of it. Then over on the other hand, someone else could actually be competent and manage to make a really rich and nice sound in 1 vst, and it looks a lot more simple at a glance, right?

So, I wouldn't worry about it.

Spoiler pro photoshop skills:

Nothing really out of the ordinary from me. I usually have very few tracks because I tend to consolidate all my samples into just a few tracks, and I also often use the same synth sound but turn various filters on and off to produce drastically different sounds from the same track.

I think whats going on there is it says its a pedal, so Abby was probably playing something and using a foot pedal for a controller, and Logic was adding a new automation point for EVERY different level of "on-ness" for it, leading to the pink explosion seen there...

Anyway, here is a project file of one of the songs I'm working on; this one is pretty average for the amount of stuff going on.

There's also a TON of automation a little lower that I cut out

Indeed it is a pedal, a wah to be exact controlled by an expression pedal with midi
