Ministry of Brony: Sessions One
Dance, House and Trance Competition

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. THANKYOU FOR PARTICIPATING. RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON
The Ministry of Brony album will be premiered today at 8PM EDT on Fillydephia Radio (https://fillydelphiaradio.net/)

All winners will be announced live on air!

Thanks to everyone who supported and entered this competition!

All links have been repaired, this is the last time I'm using derpy.me

What is "Ministry of Brony"?

Ministry of Brony is our fun take on nightclub/record label giant "Ministry of Sound"
Our idea is to create mix/compilation releases in the style of the "Sessions" releases.

This particular release will feature two 80-minute mixes with songs that have been submitted, one for each genre group.

Additionally, full-lenth tracks will be posted as "Bonus Content"

If we have enough submissions, we may also release a third "bonus disc" with the remaining content.

Who can enter "Ministry of Brony"?

Anyone who is currently a member of My Little Remix can take part in this competition.

What songs are being accepted?

We are looking for two different main genres, Dance/House and Trance, however, other genres compatible with these (not Dubstep, Drum and Bass, or Drumstep) are accepted.

THIS LIST HAS BEEN UPDATED, PLEASE REVIEW THE CHANGES!

To try and end the style debates, here is a list of ACCEPTABLE STYLES!
Notice how these style closely resemble that of what was released on MINISTRY OF SOUND SESSIONS SIX!

Tracks outside of these styles will have a much higher chance of being DROPPED!
When posting your WIP, use a tag such as [HOUSE] or [PSYTRANCE] so I can judge according to it's intended style. It will make giving suggestions a lot easier!

TRANCE:
http://www.beatport.com/charts/top-trac ... nce/237203 <- TRANCE
http://www.beatport.com/charts/top-trac ... nce/237198 <- PSYTRANCE

HOUSE/ELECTRO
http://www.beatport.com/charts/nye-2k14-top-10/241106 <- HOUSE
http://www.beatport.com/charts/top-trac ... use/237197 <- PROGRESSIVE HOUSE
http://www.beatport.com/charts/10-must- ... -51/239621 <- ELECTRO HOUSE

In both genres, each track must be an Original, Extended or Club mix, with appreciable lead-ins and outs to make mixing easier. There is no track-length requirement, as the DJ will shorten, or cut out parts of your track if it is too long.

Mash-Ups are OK, as long as you have permission from all parties/artists involved in the tracks mashed.

Remixes of tracks from the show are not allowed due to copyright constraints, however, sound and voice samples from the show are acceptable. Fair use policy applies.

Can I use music I've released previously?

Sure, however, we will be favoring new/unreleased tracks that have been made just for this release.

How many songs are going to be released?

Two 80-minute CDs worth, with a possible additional mix. It all depends on the number of submissions we get.

Does it have to be pony related?

NO! You can have your track be about whatever!

Where is the money going?

We will be selling this album to raise proceeds for a charity.
Bronies for Good will receive all funds to go towards "Your Siblings"

How many submissions can I make?

As many as you like! However, let it be said for the billionth time on this forum, it's QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!

How do I submit?

First you need to register yourself here: CLOSED
Then, you can simply upload your tracks to Dropbox, Mediafire, Box, Mega.NZ etc etc, then fill out the form here: CLOSED

When is the due date?

Deadline: February 28th 2014
Release: March 15th 2014

Who is Fillydelphia Radio?

Fillydelphia Radio is an online radio station that is dedicated to bringing listeners the very best in brony music. They will be supporting and promoting the event.

All in all, I wish all entrants the best of luck in your submissions! If you need any help, fire me a message here!

Okay, so I really, really like this.

Only question though, in the Trance examples, there's one Epic Trance track :P was that intentional? Can we make Epic Trance?

Anyways, I'm gonna see if I can't get one or two submissions in :)

I make hard electrohouse. I'd like to enter a track, but the examples don't necessarily represent the kind of thing I do:

Australian-based Electrohouse producer. Check out my YouTube or SoundCloud for music, or help me out by donating.

In all seriousness. I'll try and take this seriously enough to submit a track, but brony parody channels, labels and stuff have never got positive results in my experience.

All I can say, is enter what you have. The examples are really to show the difference between Trance and tech/House, and to show that we aren't accepting Dubstep, Drum and Bass, or any of those other genres (If this thing takes off, who knows, we may do separate Dubstep release or something)

Why aren't you doing dubstep/D&B/Electro/every genre the brony community is a fan of and why do you think the world consists of idiots who don't know the difference between trance and house

This is badly set up. Also, "tech/house"

Why the slash if you obviously mean tech house and not tech and/or house
I didn't actually bother to look at the accepted genres, but since I produce electro house and other EDM genres, I won't be participating. also, Tech house is really not a popular genre in the brony community.
Oh, and one more thing.

Competition details have been updated to reflect your concerns.

We have changed the description to Dance, House and trance.

Acceptable genres:

Complextro
Dance
Epic Trance
ElectroHouse
House
Trance

Please understand that submissions will be presented in the form of a non-stop DJ mix. Mixing incompatible genres will impact upon the release's quality.

tl;dr if it could be mixed with music similar to the samples given, it'll be accepted.

You know that Tech House doesn't really fit in this group, right?

Okay, so Trance Nation America Vol. 1 Disc 2 was mostly dark trance, psy trance, tech trance and psytekk. MoS has done that kind of stuff in the past, so am I correct in assuming I could get away with something like that?

I fully and totally support what you're doing here, btw. If there's one thing the brony community has been missing, it's some classic ravey megamixes. I'm kinda getting excited just thinking about it.

The best answer I can give to you guys is

IF YOU FIND A SIMILAR GENRE ON A MINISTRY OF SOUNDS SESSIONS RELEASE, IT'S ACCEPTABLE

http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... sions-one/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... session-2/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... ons-three/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... rty-south/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... essions-5/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... sions-six/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... ons-seven/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... ons-eight/
http://www.ministryofsound.com.au/music ... ions-nine/
https://www.ministryofsound.com.au/musi ... sions-ten/

If you submit something and we can't congruently mix it cos it's:

Too Fast
Too Slow
Incompatible with the target genre

WE WILL NOTIFY YOU

The best way to make sure you know your track is acceptable is to

LINK WIPS IN THE SKYPE GROUP CHAT!

I will personally listen to each WIP and make suggestions if they aren't within the guidelines.

Stop poking about sub-sub-subgenres, and post your WIPs!

Dance isn't even a genre m8.

It's a lifestyle.

No but seriously, what the hell is "dance"? I'm assuming you meant dance music but that's not so much a genre as it is a category, ie EDM. And you have some weird things going on:
Complextro is a subgenre of electro house, which is a subgenre of house along with tech house. So you've got two subgenres of a genre of EDM and a subgenre of one of those subgenres. Then you've got another genre of EDM (trance) and a subgenre of that, and you've got disco which really doesn't even fit and dance which isn't a genre. Get your genres straight, man.

If you want rave-y stuff you're probably not going to get much like this.

e: Fix that typo in the banner and thread title and everything. It should be "Session 1" not "Sessions One"

That aside, I got a Trance track in the work that sounds absolutely fantastic. Hope to be able to send it in asap.

Session should be singular. Sessions One doesn't make sense.

Also Ministry of Brony is a kinda awkward title anyway.

Would submissions be restricted to a certain bpm? It seems to me that the goal is to keep submissions around 125/135 bpm due to the restricted genres.

I thijnk that this would have to be done. While progresive house MAY dip into the 120's, trance really typically doesn't. Op should specify a minimum and maximum bpm just to avoid any embarassing fast or slow entries....

Right.
That puts me in danger, since my Trance track is gonna be 141BPM (not intending to change that).
