I need some suggestions for good guitar amps. I've finally bought my own guitar recently (been borrowing a friend's for a year) and it's a Squire Stratocaster and it came with a freakin' Fender Frontman, and moving from a Line 6 Spider III to a Fender Frontman 15G IS DRIVING ME INSANE.

So, yeah, good amps that aren't too pricey.

I swear by Marshall for my amps. I've been using a little 15 watt one for the past few years and love it. They're pretty cheap too.

Marshalls bigger amps also sound great if you don't need too many fancy preset making and fx saving features.

I work in a studio that writes jingles, so I kinda have a small amount of experience in recording guitars. I'll post a pic of the set up we use for it later.

Blackheart amps are super well priced and also have TUBES IN THERE. I can't stand solid state. Elitist? Absolutely. That said, the little giant half stack is the best value there is for the price and has super workable, warmey-warm tone. Anything less is unacceptable tbh. That said, it's massively fun to use a line splitter/stereo out to plug in a whole mess of cranked practice amps. Uncontrollable feedback, but super fun to play with when working with something droney/shoegazey.

For my digital effects, I run a digitech RP-255, and for my analog effects, I have a couple homebrew stompboxes I like to mess with, although my favorite is likely the feedback looper. For those not in the know, a feedback looper is a pedal that loops the signal through another pedal over and over and over until you get either white noise or endless feedback. It's fun as hell.

I'm strumming a strat with a whammy bar. When I use open tunings, I play with a slide, but I mostly play standard.

Personally I'll have to second Marshall Amps. I use a MGFX250. Really clean and usable solid state tone. I'm impressed with the effects on the line6 amps. Sure it doesn't do well against a tube amp, but I don't feel like taking out a mortgage for them xD.

Other Things to discuss about guitars? What type of pickups do you prefer? What kind of acoustic guitar do you like? Do you like recording the cab of the guitar, or going straight in?

For that budget we'll be looking at mostly practice amps

You could literally spend like, 100 more dollars and maybe actually have a usable amplifier.

Eh, yeah, probably, I'll just wait a bit longer until I have an actual job, then.

On a side note I sold my Rockerverb 50 and am hopefully downgrading to an AD30HTC head :3
It may not be much of a downgrade price wise but it's a drop of 20 watts... 20 watts that I don't need. And plus I love the twin channel design

I never was a fan of Marshall amps, fender all the way.
The best things ever are Orange and Line 6. Personally I play though a Line 6 Spider IV 75w combo. Even though its only a 1x12 its still a kickass amp, and its perfect with my Schecter Omen 8. :3

I use a roland Cube-20 XL, and you'd be hard-pressed to find an amplifier that distorts your clean sounds less and having a distortion channel that doesn't sound like your guitar sound is being played over an old FM radio. My teacher has one of those Marshall MG amps and they sound pretty good too and also are cheaper so you might consider them.
Importantly, the Cube also has a power squeezer button which makes it usable when you're not trying to kill your neighbors.

I'm mainly an EDM producer though so my arguments are invalid

Shouldn't you be using pedals - overdrive/distortion or a booster to push a tube amp - for a distorted tone? :/

Line 6 is a gr8 brand m9, wot r u on abwt.
I swear by my amp. All the tones I can get out of it are perfect FOR ME. Because after all, how boring would it be if every band played through the same gear just because its "a good amp by a good company, hurr durr"?

Each guitarist has their own style and sound, which comes through their taste, and respectively their setup. :3

tl;dr i like Line 6 don't judge me.

You can judge me on having an 8 string guitar though, djent, djent, djent, djent.

Nah it's fine I was just kidding because a lot of guitarists don't like line 6 amps... me being one as I like the vintage tube fuzz feel which orange amps show very well
