Contrary to seemingly everyone else, I CANNOT create good dubstep basslines. Y'know, the ones with like 4/5 different basses and loads of different modulation and stuff goin' on. Man, I struggle.

Aaargh me too. I end up using the same patch but modulating it to tits. I can never figure out how to get different sounds to flow.
Then again I prefer minimal stuff anyways so :3

Y'know how I deal with that? When I can't think of anything to do in the way of a track, I just make a bunch of basses, leads etc and save them for later. That way I always have a few unused patches ready to go next time :D

I've actually started doing that if I get bored. I make a few basses and see if I can make them flow, and that's usually how some of my songs come about :3

I do this anyways but it's still hard.
A side effect is that I have 700 bass patches and about 4 leads.

Seems like for a lot of people mixing/mastering is what they have trouble with. I actually don't have much trouble with that at all. Like I said before, I have trouble with creating the catchy melody to base the song off of.

I have 3837391747392816 self-made kicks, few tweaked basses, leads, n other shitz (of which all are derived from some preset).
I know how you feel.
I can't make a decent Hardcore track with kicks only... :c

I'm not even sure anymore what exactly is mixing and what exactly is mastering.
I'm fairly good at staying out of the red. Problem, terminology?

And I pretty much get nuked by melodies playing in my head when I go out and try shit.

I don't know how to 'make' my own sounds either, I don't understand the various features and controls of software synths/drum machines and up to now have always resorted to slightly modified presets, arranged in a style I just happen to like. Eventually I'll move away from that of course, but for the time being its quite frustrating because its limiting my potential.

Trust me, it takes a while to learn that.

Some people would ring my neck for this, but I've never read an instruction manual for any synth or whatever I own. Just keep at it and you'll get it.

Mixing and Mastering is my biggest downfall. I have a hard time making sure everything is mixed perfectly thus butchering my mastering job and it doesn't help that I broke my Sennheiser 280s the other day. My sound design is also pretty weak especially leads and such. Melody comes pretty easy to me especially for hardcore styles of music but when it comes to Dubstep and D&B everything just falls apart in the intro almost every time.

Here's an example of what I mean by my intros.

Hopefully by using this forum more often I can stop sucking ;)
