Connecting vocal to a pattern?(smart autotuning or vocoding)

Postby Freewave » 18 Apr 2013 17:51

I have looked up a few youtubes on how to vocode on ytube for Fl Studio (which i use) and almost every vocoder guide shows how to do it LIVE via a keyboard. That's not what I'm looking for.

I've discovered kerovee which at least limits my voice to specific notes and deviate from ones out of tune which is a definite improvement. I'm sure there's ways to directly link a midi pattern and a voice. I did try using Melodyne and got quite a few sour notes that sound awful. Haven't looked into this thread yet.

I am looking to see if my slightly out of tune voice can be autotuned OR vocoded (or both) via a simulataneous midi patterns which i already have in my project. Would anyone be able to show me how you would do that or be able to hook me up an on-topic ytube tutorial?

Really appreciate any help.

I personally love the way the mda Talkbox works (I think it's also what Glaze uses). I don't use Fl Studio, but in LMMS, all you do to set it up is apply it to a channel, set the carrier and the modulator to that channel, pan one all the way to the left, the other all the way to the right, and you're set.

You can route midi to Antares Autotune, and kerovee for that matter, look up how to route midi to your effects plugins for whatever daw you're using.

You can use Image-Lines' Newtone for some quick and easy pitch and time correction. When a sample is loaded up, it auto-detects problem notes which you can simply right click on to put it correctly on pitch. You can also do everything manually as well if you so desire. Not sure if you can import midi to it. It can detect what notes are being used and then export them to a midi channel which is pretty neat.

Vocodex is an excellent vocoder that comes with FL. how to use:
1. add your synth to a channel
2. add your vocals to another
3. add Vocodex to another
4. route the synth and vocals to the vocodex channel
5. unroute the synth and vocals from the master
6. in vocodex set your synth channel as the carrier
7. in vocodex set your vocal channel as the modulator
8. in vocodex set the modulator and the carrier volume level down.
9. play your synth and the vocals at the same time in the playlist and you've got it!

you can use whatever synth you want for the carrier. There's also a lot of settings Vocodex has, too! Setting number of bands higher can help with clarity.

Do you just browse this forum looking for vocoding threads to post in? You seem to respond to them all.

Vocoding is just that cool.

Don't have much to add~ Just if you can do it live in a sequencer, you should be able to sequence it! Just select the right sources.

Make sure you know what type of vocoding you want to do; There are sooo many ways to do it, and each makes a different set of sounds.

Image-Line Pitcher works good for me. Just set the scale you're using and then slow down the speed knob to the point where you get it where you get it to sound good without the whole "auto tune" sound. But perhaps that's just me.
