Postby Natas_blackmane » 26 Mar 2013 16:19

I have always been a fan of 20s and 30s swing jazz after finding out about Electro swing i feel in love with the music. So i though i would try my hand at making my own never to be one to go with flow i thought i would mix Glitch Step with it and that's how this song was born haha
hope you like.

P.S watch in 1080p it will be worth it.

I've never written electro swing but I have a certain love of the genre. That makes me qualified to critique it, right?

Anyway, it's a good start. I can hear the beginnings of a Caravan Palace-esque song (not sure if that's what you were going for, but I consider it a positive thing).

I would write a smoother introduction but it's not a huge problem. Also, the way the main vocals are spliced retains a weird popping sound that's kind of distracting.

There's a pretty good amount of variation in timbre although I think what you have could be more condensed, if that makes sense, and even could stand to have more added. As it is right now it feels a bit all over the place so really planning out what you're going to do and where could help (but this may just boil down to personal preference).

Some parts (such as the vocals) are repeated too much without a significantly long break. As a result they become less and less interesting to hear, even though it's only a three minute song. You could alter the vocal splices more, use different ones, insert a much more drastic change of timbre midway through, or any combination thereof. All of the electro swing that I've heard tends to be incredibly repetitive and not especially complex (at least not in terms of melody and chord progression) that it must use other means of retaining the listener's interest.

Finally, on a more superficial note, I'm not really sensing either an Octavia or Vinyl influence. Actually, I'm not even hearing a pony influence at all. Where are the vocals taken from? It doesn't sound like they're from the show. I don't know how important it is that this be pony, but I think it'd work fine as something else entirely.

So, yeah, I'm sorry that you're stuck with the perspective of an orchestral musician but I wanted to give some kind of feedback. I'm glad to see more people writing for this bizarre yet fascinating genre and I think this has a chance of becoming something special.

Thanks a lot dude for taking the time to watch and write back to me. I do under stand what you mean about the jumping and all over the place but you have to rember i was making electro Glitch witch is a mix of electro swing and Glitch music *not sure if that really exists but it dose now hahaha also reading what i put in the Subject/title i feel like a wile ass as i put in electro swing not electro Glitch i will fix that now*.

So from that i was going for a really over the top weird and jumping, popping not right kinda song. How i thought of it was a pin on a vinyl player just jumping around a vinyl. I do get what you mean with the vocals and i wish i could have fixed it now i look back or even put in a bit of a change. But then again i think it adds to the broken vinyl feeling XD.

Now on the pony side of things first of Vinyl sands for a Vinyl not vinyl scratch and it is the name of a full demo of this type of music i am working on. So wile making it i was thinking what music octavia would of liked and i fell for 20s and 30s swing jazz *apart from the classical music* so i made it around that and there is some pony snipits in there haha but all and all its only pony cose the hole story that will be made is a pony story *you most likely will have no idea what i mean XD*

So yea once again thanks alot for taking the time to watch my vid and write back also sorry for my bad English.
