This sounds similar to stuff I've written before...does that mean I've just been trolling this entire time?

My favourite musical troll was at Uni, when a lecturer started playing pachebel's canon on his computer, sounded lovely and it was in just intonation...until it started shifting keys...I thought it was hilarious!

But yeah, I liked this!

If you want musical trolling, look up PDQ Bach. He writes some excellent things.

i really like those VSTis, and they are free (and open source too now)! google or look up "mda" on KVR.

Edit: Not sure if this counts as trolling, but IT NEVER ENDS D:

and i don't get myth's track either, unless it's about some progression or chord or other musical thingie which i never studied.

Yeah, Shepard's Scale working at its finest!!!

And I'm pretty sure the trolling comes from setting the music up to resolve to somewhere and then doing the opposite, so like most late romantic music...

But don't quote me on this...that's just what I hear, better to ask SenatorMyth, considering he made it! :P

Sounds like the end of Schostakovich's 9th Symphony (I think it's that one), except he did the final cadence for about 8 minutes...

Psst.

Myth's troll post is about clashing musical scales (and probably poorly-timed key presses).

I make ear rape. Wanna hear it?

IT. IS. ON.

There's a difference between musical trolling (which is subtle and requires painstaking attention to detail and is basically the most advanced and elegant form of trolling possible) and mere auditory annoyance.

You may think you're a troll with all of your so-called "ear rape". But there's more to musical trolling than your brutish ways. Musical trolling needs to be more than just noise. Musical trolling needs to have style. Musical trolling isn't musical trolling without grace and beauty.

Also, what do you mean by poorly-timed key presses?

Very likely nothing. I don't know the term of it, but it's not like it was offbeat, but the manner in which you were pressing keys was excessive in the, err, I just can't explain it in text, I'm sorry. If it was deliberate then I stand corrected. I hope I didn't insult you or anything.

And yes I am brutish and am not elegant in the least. My favorite gag is to set a moog reso up to 11 and just watch everyone squirm, but I would never do that to bronies. I go to another place filled with trolls and I bomb them with horrible music.

No, not insulted in the least. We're just having fun in this thread, right? =P I was just sort of curious what you meant. I didn't press any keys to make either of those songs, I drew them directly into the piano rolls. That's what I was confused about.

Huh! Well, then, you have quite the vst/synth piano. Definitely carefully crafted, then.

RRRRRRGGG YA'LL WANT MUSICAL TROLLING THIS IS MUSICAL TROLLING:

http://soundcloud.com/penguindf12/owner-of-a-lonely-heart

http://soundcloud.com/penguindf12/yugioh-gx-theme-2

The tunes below have cursing & awful rapping over what I consider pretty nifty musical backings. The first one especially is a SATIRE, sung by an alternate persona for comedy. Thus:

Ok, so I can't claim this as my own work, but this is my favourite example of musical trolling.

The band Ayreon is a project by Singer/Instrumentalist Arjen Luccassen. Ayreon's music is best described as Progressive Folk Rock Opera, as musically each album is part of an ongoing story with differing singers taking up the part of different characters over the sound of Progressive Rock/Metal music.

The first five albums tell a complex story involving (and this is going to sound just dumb, but go with me here) Aliens who destroyed their home planet, but have used humans through out the history of earth as a means of one day fixing their home planet and saving themselves from the eternity of nothingness they have been trapped in. These humans have included Merlin, an egyptian, a Stoner, a cowboy and a spaceman who is the last man on earth in the distant future. In addition to this, two of the albums focus on the aforementioned space man using a device called The Dream Sequencer to relive past memories of both humanity and the alien race.

Still with me? Good.

Ayreon's sixth album took a very different turn. It tells the story of a man who falls in to a coma, and during the coma communicates with his emotions personified (i.e. Anger, Fear and Love). Through this communication and messages sung by his close family and friends, the protagonist manages to deal with his inner demons and how he came to be in a coma. The album was celebrated for Arjen finally taking what was musically brilliant and also adding a lyrical complexity that didn't sound like the plot of a terrible 60's porn film... well, compared to to his other stuff at least.

This is the final track of the Album. It's great. Listen to the whole thing, but if you can't be bothered, listen from 5:30 onwards, for the big climatic finale!

Barf! I have this album. I loved it when I was 16, but it doesn't really hold up for me any more. Nice music of course, but "prog metal" never really sat with me that well as a genre -- more a personal taste thing than anything else. "Father" still sounds coo though, can't beat didgeridoo Celtic metal with an epic organ solo! As for the ending, (to paraphrase an awful TV show) WHADT A TWEEST! :D
