<Not-Pony><Original><Drum & Bass> Sunshine Through Rainfall

I'm calling it a WIP right now because I still don't feel finished with it even though it may seem finished.. I'm not too sure if I will come back to it, but I'd atleast enjoy a bit of critique on what I did good on and need to improve.

I imagine it will be deemed a bit repetitive, and that's fine, it's still something I'm trying to break from, I feel I'm getting better at that, but it still needs some more work.

Thanks for your time.

Typing this while I listen to it:

Even at the beginning the sound design is kinda meh. The synth sounds really basic. The leads that come in are nice though. The white noise sweep at 0:49 feels like it goes on a bit too long. The drum samples are kinda plain. I'd suggest maybe layer them with some others? I personally don't think it's horribly repetitive. If you find it kind of repetitive, change the chord progression a bit, or add a breakdown with completely different instruments. The whole song feels like its lacking some stuff in the low end. I feel subs, but it's really treble. Toward 3:47ish is where it starts to sound a bit repetitive to me. And the outro could be a bit better, it's kinda weak at the moment. Overall I like it, you mixed it pretty well, and I think it sounds pretty good.

Thanks for the feedback, you nailed my two weakpoints that I've been trying to get better at, sound design and the outros.... Sound design is something I completely lack in for the most part right now, but glad the mix is solid atleast.

Yeah, I was testing drum breaks for this song, so I didn't really layer much in terms of the samples I have. I didn't know my sub was quite weak, it's starting to become apparent that I need to work on making better subs, I cut all the low ends out of everything for the sub, but I guess it's still underwhelming.

On that note, you've given me a lot to think about and work on, thanks.

This is more an opinionated thing, but it worked for me, so maybe it'll work for you:
For the drum breaks, I'd suggest adding some kind of aux percussion behind the whole thing. Something like fast paced claves, or something like that. It fills drum space, and adds a lot of energy to the areas with percussion. Something like the instrument in the back of here.

And it's not necessarily that the subs are weak, it's more so that it needs another instrument to fill up the spectrum a bit. Something kinda heavier in the bass and low mids. You really just need another instrument to help the subs out. I probably should have made that more clear in my first reply.

Anyway, I'm glad to help, it's no problem. :D

oooh oookay! I didn't know that I was keeping the subs too clear. When I use sub-basses, I usually make it the only thing occupying the area below 100Hz, but I can see what you're saying, instead of isolating it, find something that compliments it and brings it out more. THAT would be the reason I keep getting the comment about my subs not being all so glaring.

As for the percussive feel needing a bit more tweaking, after listening to the loop, yeah, I can see what you mean, it's pretty plain, I got the idea there, it just needs a bit more.. excitement to it.

Once again thanks a lot :)
