Seasonal Remix Series - A Monthly Remix Compo

We have just released an album. Find it at http://seasonalremixseries.bandcamp.com ... pia-14-s-1
There is currently a remix compo in progress. You can always find the most up-to-date info at this site.

With the unfortunate dwindling of Toastbeard's popularity, and (what seems like) a bit of stagnation in the MLP fandom music community, I've decided to create a new compilation album series. However, these aren't going to be just your average compilation albums.

The Seasonal Remix Series is a monthly remix compilation album series centered around community interaction and fun. Once a month, usually on the 20th or 21st (I'll explain why later), a set of remix stems are handed out to the participants. You get a little less than a month (to allow for organization) to create an original remix of that song and submit it to our gmail account in WAV, FLAC, or AIFF format (preferably uploaded to a site like Dropbox, MediaFire, or Box.com.)

Where do the stems come from? Well, that's up to you guys. We're accepting stems, preferably WAV and MIDI files in a ZIP compression format, via our gmail account. In addition, we'd like a finished version of the original track as well. We will filter through the stems, and find which ones are suitable for remixing. They will then be considered each month for being the month's remix stems. You probably won't receive an email saying that you were not accepted.

At the end of each month, the remixes will all be placed into a ZIP file, tagged, and with album art. The monthly album art will look something like this.

At the end of each season, we will choose the best two tracks from each month and package them into a BandCamp album, complete with album art. The proceeds of the album will go to a currently undecided charity. The seasonal album art will look something like this.

Our gmail is [email protected].

If you want to be a part of the skype group, add me on skype at "jokullmusic".

If you want to be a judge (and I don't know you), link me your SoundCloud page as well. We'll look it over and see if you fit what we need!

All in all, thank you for reading! We hope you are interested and plan on participating!

P.S.: Keep in mind that whatever you submit doesn't have to be pony-related at all!

I'd like to partake in this, though my attendance will greatly depend on the track selected for remixing. Expect variable participation from me.

That's basically all that's expected, to be honest. Anyway, glad you're interested!

If you can get a page that embeds all the entries like OHC or Toastbeard, then all you'd need would be Skype or IRC. IRC would be preferable because Skype likes to lag when there are a lot of people typing. I'm sure the bronymusic IRC channel would be perfectly fine with you hosting sync listens (it would be nice to ask though). In fact, you could probably ask sci about using the toastbeard site to embed all of the entries. These are all just ideas though.

It would probably be preferable to use a new interface rather than use toastbeards'- I could build one fairly easily, and it could be customized for SRS and I could fix problems as they arise. However, IRC seems like a good idea. I agree the bronymusic IRC channel could work. I'll look into it later today.

One important question before I jump totally on board: What will be the policy on keeping around the remix stems and using them for questionable sampling purposes?
Notebook Memories, the debut album from yours truly, is currently up on my bandcamp for free. Any feedback, encouragement, hate mail, etc. is highly appreciated! Even just listening is pretty cool of you tbh.

It's not condoned, of course, but there's no way to really prevent that if it occurs. It's the same with any remix stem competition. It's unfortunate but unpreventable, and any bans would be unpreventable.

Fair enough. So when is the first round of this going to start? Do we have a song to remix yet?

We expect to begin on Saturday, June 21. However, no remix stems have been submitted. If there are no adequate stems submitted by then, I'll have to use stems to one of my own songs, and hopefully the word gets out.

Yeah, it's in the original post. [email protected]. Also, it'd probably be better to upload them to something like Dropbox or Mediafire, then send a link, as emails can't hold more than 25 MB or so.

Honestly I'd love to see someone talk to Sci about Toastbeard. I think Toastbeard has a been a wonderful event series but now has low turnout now, is just too short (1 week turnaround), and lacks no punch (it used to be that brony tracks (such as Rainbow Factory) started there, we need good quality participants).

If Toastbeard could be changed to a monthly or even a bi-monthly event theme that would produce better results and possibly more community involvement. You could even collect the best tracks into an album format for more attention or a monthly free release. Really anything to shake up the stagnation it's had over the last years. Help it get better or put it down. Is it even still going?

[Edit: Sorry I talked with someone else and they informed me that sci is continuing Toast Beard but its now non pony. Sorry to be out of the loop and thinking aloud to the op]

A monthly remix series if ppl wanted to produce a SERIES of monthly remix ep's isn't a bad seperate idea and I'm taking it that this is kind of IN this thread. You would likely want to do a remix series on a semi well known and popular music track with full midi and stems. I'm not really seeing what track you are remixing this time around so more info and a astatus would be helpful. It's hard to support it when there's no updates.
