The Eurobeat Challenge

Postby TehFourteenth » 01 Feb 2013 05:15

Now I'm pretty sure everyone here has heard of Eurobeat Brony right?

If not? Then here's a link to a magical place that will entice your ear buds with funky vibes and a unique application of musical theory to various dance synths as well as complex arrangements that will make you melt faster than Crystal Ponies in the Sahara Desert wearing three sweaters whilst being burnt to smithereens by Dragon Fire...

Anyway, I'm not here to promote Odyssey... I'm here to challenge all of you musical geniuses on this forum! It's high time that we expand our horizons and try something new!

Which one of you men think your manlier than DustyKatt? Which one of you believe you have more testicular fortitude than ACRaceBest! Which one of you--

Yeah I'm hamming it up, way too much *shot*

What I'm trying to say is... I am hosting a Eurobeat Challenge to all of you! It's a tribute to one of the pioneers of Brony Music who is an underrated genius that applies his craft way better and has a unique but endearing style that some other famous brony musicians lack... *cough* Tombstone *cough*

But anyway, all of the Eurobeat will be put on Bandcamp as a compilation album and quite possibly featured on EQD too! :)

The deadline will be April 1st and if you have any more questions either PM me or let me know here on the thread.

Best of luck guys! :)

P.s. If you need more of an example of what Eurobeat sounds like then think of Hare Hare Yukai which is pretty close to it... (But don't quote me on that...)

You said there is a Eurobeat Challenge and then said nothing about it besides a deadline and that it will be on EqD. Then you called out Tombstone for not being unique, when Eurobeat is probably one of the biggest "wash and repeat" genres in the world.

So uh, no.

That's fair I guess, if you really do want to know more you could just ask me as I've previously stated...

But I'm not gonna hound you for it if you're not interested, have a good one man. :)

From what I've witnessed on the forum in the past ~year these sort of albums never really work out as the OP never gives us information. They make jokes, try to be funny but we never know who 'they' are or what it is they are wanting.

We have a release date, we know you want eurobeat stuff, and you say it will somehow end up on EQD. Please, show us you know what you're doing as an album host or at least convince us its not your first time, people don;t like supporting something they know little about.

I am trying to be friendly although I know you may not read it as such.

FAQ

It seems I haven't given enough information in my initial post so I have decided to put an FAQ (Rules Section, etc...) to answer any questions you might have...

Q: What is Eurobeat?

A: It's a genre of music that was formed as a variant of Italo-Disco and was popular during the early 90's, that was the era where high pitched synth leads and mullets were starting to get out of style in favor of something more edgy. (The prevalence of Nu-Metal comes to mind...)

Q: Is there a certain structure to Eurobeat?

A: Most sources (including wikipedia) state that this--

intro → riff (musical synth) → a melo(verse) → a melo2(bridge) → a sabi (chorus) → riff (musical synth) → outro

Is the Eurobeat Formula and that is the formula that shall be used! :)

Q: Are there any rules or limitations?

A: None whatsoever, it can even be non-pony! Provided that the song itself is Eurobeat, that's fine and dandy.

Q: What's all this about Bandcamp and EQD?

A: Well hopefully there will be enough entries by the time of the deadline, if not it could always be extended, but the top 15 entries will be picked to represent this album and featured on Bandcamp. The album may also get featured on EQD (if we're lucky...).

Q: How much for the Album?

A: I still haven't decided whether it will be completely free or going straight to charity but I will not receive a cent this album makes...

Q: Who will judge the best entries?

A: Well it will only be me for now, but I am only slightly versed in Eurobeat so I will also get a second opinion from the good folks at Eurobeat Prime! :)

Q: Any pointers on how to make Eurobeat?

A: Everything you'll ever need is right here... http://eurobeatblog.com/category/how-to/

Something like this could be cool IF Eurobeat Brony or Stormwolf organized this and then helped out in chats occasionally to "train" people in how to make this music. But sinces those are the only 2 people i know who do work with that style in our community, neither are on mlr anymore, and none of us MAKE that music i wonder what the point is or how you're really trying to make this a reality. Again as someone who has pulled off 2 brony compilations (Second Chances and Sori 52) EQD won't naturally highlight this and the thing won't even get made unless you get both devoted artists and devoted orgnaizers and a real concept. These events are a dime a dozen these days and most never get off the ground after flailing for a few months (ie the funk album, the covers album, etc ,etc)

Well, I make Eurobeat. It's not as good as Odyssey or Stormwolf, but I can help with some general questions I guess.

I simply adore Eurobeat. Even if I do not enter this thing I am still looking forward to it.

I have no idea how to even make Eurobeat synths and basses. I suppose that's a good enough reason to try and enter though, right? Hmm...
