Death metal vocals don't take me too long to get right, so I'll have time to do it sooner or later. Need my help?

Okay, so you're doing vocals. Can you write lyrics? Because I can't.

I can write lyrics. I usually like to write silly lyrics for parodies that I have yet to begin, but I can write serious lyrics.

About vocals, should I growl in a way that you can make out the lyrics, or just sound slurred? Slurred is more brutal, but sounds like shit to a normal set of ears. That's why Phil Bozeman changed his vocal style recently. I'd perfer being understood.

I'm also on a mission to learn how to sing and voice act decently. Could I do some normal singing vocals for this (like in the chorus)? I need the practice and I think this is a great place to start.

What sub-genre of metal is the collab? I forgot.

The collab is prog metal, partly so we can essentially do whatever the hell we want.
You can do some normal singing, I may contribute to that as well.

No.

The collab is a WTF mix of whatever genres the participants feel like throwing in, and I feel like throwing in some electro.

Btw, does anyone care if I change my element to Moombahton?

Ah, there was 2 big collabs: a prog metal collab which has become bigger than originally intended, and the WTF collab. Thanks for reminding me about that one.

Yes, the prog metal collab is just one of the smaller encouraged collabs that just happened to get pretty big. But it is not the WTF collab.

Hell, I'll do a(nother) collab with you. That is, if you're not fed up with all my bullshit yet.

But seriously, this project (if you want to do it) shouldn't take me nearly as long. I'm terrible at making remixes, but pretty quick at writing original material. :)

Can I guitar all over it? ;~;

Only leads. I'm going to odd time signature and djent all over the song. And maybe even dubstep on it as well.

I figured that from the stuff you make.

I like to show off, but hate getting all of the attention. So rhythm guitar in progressive metal and djent suits me perfectly. I get to do all sorts of weird time signatures, syncopations, chords, play slap bass on an 8 string guitar, etc. But not everyone stares at me. It's perfect.

For the prog collab, I had a great idea.

I will be the main rhythm guitarist, so I'll use my 8 string tuned to drop E.

Kyoga can play in standard tuning on his 6 string (he doesn't have an 8 string). Essentially, we're both tuned to E. I just get to go an octave lower than he can, and 2 extra strings to do that with. But we can easily play in the same key.

I also feel the urge to use slap bass technique on some guitar parts. I was thinking of having an alternating slap solo in the key of E with our bassist. Kind of like a guitar battle, but with deep rhythmic stuff instead of leads.

Apparently I need to practice slap more...

And drop E? You're going to be as low as my 4 string BASS?!

Also how do you feel about which instrument I should use? I have two fretted 4 stringers-a P-style bass and J-style bass upgraded with EMG's "vintage" pickups. Then there's my 6 stringer, a fretless. Being 6 string, it will be harder to slap and especially pop, but I can pull something off that's not overbearing. Also being fretless, the sound won't have the metallic edge and sustain of frets.

The guitar being as low as the bass is pretty much guaranteed mud, be careful with that.

I REALLY agree. Please stick with standard tuning or whatever. I learned a long time ago not care about "heavyness".

I have had the guitar for 6 months now. It doesn't sound muddy.

It's an 8 string guitar, it's supposed to have the lower octave. Ever hear Todin Abasi play? He uses the same tuning and does not have a muddy guitar tone.

Besides, 8 string standard tuning has a low F#. Are you telling me to take a pair of scissors and remove the F# string? I guarantee that one whole step is not going to change the tone dramatically. It's an 8 string.

Go listen to Periphery, Animals As Leaders, Scale the Summit, Meshuggah, and Red Skyes Fire. They all have used 8 string guitars at one point or another, especially Animals As Leaders and Meshuggah. Those bands do not have huge issues with mud.

BTW, it's only 1 octave lower than a regular guitar. 1 octave. It would need to two more octaves lower to be in the same frequency range as the bass.

And if you're that worried about mud with the bass, I'll cut all frequencies below 250hz with a high pass filter and EQ. I have to make a cut around 200-250hz for the snare drum anyways.

Instead of worrying that it won't work, get creative and try something new for a change. Be innovative.

Instead of thinking of it as a bass, think of it as a guitar with extra strings. I just try to get the most range out of my instrument. That's why I wanted to use slap technique on it.

I'd also like to add that low guitar tunings is the only way to get a djent tone. The highest tuning you can get djent out of is drop C. If you try in standard tuning on a normal guitar, it will sound like crap. That's why so many new prof and djent guitarists are turning to 7 and 8 string guitars.

Besides, the extended range allows you to get interesting tones and techniques you can't get on a normal guitar, like slap guitar. The range is also better for interesting leads. However, I'll leave the leads to Kyoga.

One last thing I should mention is that I will not be using distortion for slap guitar parts. Distortion is a no-no for slap anything.

Why do you automatically assume I'm limiting myself to one guitar tone? I'm going to use the clean channel too.

I hate how people automatically assume I'm just crunching powerchords. Its a bit insulting.

Our concerns weren't an assumption about "crunching power chords." They were simply about the guitar being tuned about as low as a normal 4 string bass. Also, you are wrong about the octave. Your drop E low E will be the same octave as the low E on my bass.

I do apologize if I came off as insulting. I'll just trust you know how to handle the EQ and distortion to make both parts clear.
