I make all my shiz in Reason. Dat software's great. May switch over to ableton because of small advantages (mainly the spectrum analyzer, esp combined with the EQ), but I'm very happy with Reason's sequencer, you don't have to make a whole new pattern for every edit (unless I'm stupid and have been using FL wrong).
But back on the subject of house:
I've got my intro chords done, now need to work on the chorus chords. Also, my solution to kicks is to sample. I sampled my first from Bratkilla's 'A Message To The Governments' (I think you would like his music Chromatic). For my chorus I'm using a heavily edited Vengeance Essential Clubsounds 4 kick. First clap is from Vengeance Clubsounds 3, and my snare is sampled from a Downlink song (IDK which one, Colortwelve did the sampling of this one). I also have a hat from VEC4, another from a Prime Loops pack, and another from Subshot's dubstep pack. I'm not using a crash but my reverse crash is from VEC3. I'm also thinking of using a modified 808 snare for a kind of bridge.
So yeah, that's my beat.
I never sample from other songs. I perfer to use a dry sample and process it myself. I don't have a problem with people sampling from other songs, but I hate the resulting quality. I noticed that on half of C12's samples from other songs, there was still background noise from the original songs in them. Especially the Downlink kick. I love it to death, but no amount of EQing or phase cancellation can remove the noise completely. I didn't even notice it until I used my mixing headphones. When I noticed it, I was embarrassed at myself for using it in my all my songs up until that point. So I can't bring myself to sample stuff from other musicians anymore.
Not to mention, processing dry samples is fun. It makes me feel better about my sound design.
