Can anyone copy that tumblr post into here? I'm at work. I guess all R&R announcements are being done through his personal tumblr...?

I’ll just extend it some more.

Don't think it was intended as a formal announcement per se.

Haha the time keeps getting extended xD
People had literally half a year to work on their songs. If they don't have it done by now, that's kind of sad lol.

i've been working all those months on my track, and just now I'm getting it finalized.
those extra hours are all i need to finish it.

i'm sorry i'm not like most people here, submitting the track a week into the comp
instead of worrying the rest of the time with mixing and mastering. geez.

The deadline got extended less than a day. Everybody take a chill pill.

Here's a little information to chew on for those of you who weren't here for Balloon Party last year:

BP had something like over 200 submissions, a huge number to break down into a single album, which ended up having 45 or so tracks, which is a very generous amount.

Considering we have about as many submissions and participants as BP, you can likely expect a very similar rate of attrition, which we calculated out last year to be somewhere around 78% of tracks not making it on the album.

Half of you are getting butthurt already, over deadline extensions, which leads me to believe that an even worse amount of butthurt is going to flow once the album results are out.

Be happy for deadline extensions. It lets you reopen that project and fix those minor errors you discover after listening to your track for a couple weeks. Got an idea to make your song better? Now you've got a chance to implement it.

Navron I agree that Balloon Party brought about a lot of bad vibes due to a variety of factors and that's kind of why it's upsetting that this may be repeating some of those trends by moving the deadline (a second time, mind you) to include a bunch of late entries and not communicating things on mlr (either in the first post or by any communication of the organizers until your post). Just please understand what is most important to a lot of us is that things are well communicated and appear fair. People really won't have as much to complain about if that's the case. People should well be aware that the chances of getting in are pretty remote when your competition is Silva Hound and Art Attack and not just your MLR peers but the community's idols.

Hopefully the organizers are already considering an After Party type release R+R for afterwards even if the fanbase's reception was a lot more muted just because that's otherwise a lot of people missing out.

I'd rather have a great album with great tracks that took an extra month than a meh album that felt rushed

I have to admit that all these unannounced time increases are kinda annoying, especially when some people (read: me) didn't get much sleep last night because they were tweaking those last important things and they come back from work to see that they didn't really have to lose that sleep. And we have had like half a year to get these things done.
But really, it's not that big of a deal. The extra time actually allowed my procrastinating ass to get my track up on youtube, so I can't really complain at all. As long as one of these ending times ends up being right, R&R will still release and everything will be peachy keen and butterflies.

Working with several people mastering their tracks, the deadline increases might be annoying (I was up at 4am last night working on stuff) but they're a blessing in my opinion. All the tracks that I worked with got finished in time for the deadline, but when the increase happened, got improved and resubmitted, then the new increase happened and even more improvement was made.

The increases aren't to help you finish your track, but to make you realise after you've submitted for the deadline, what you'd want to do to fix the track up, then you get given that chance with the increase.

Well yes but there's the issue of people destroying their lives for a few days to get a track done and finding out "oh no biggie we just pushed back the due date lol" and that leads to quite infuriated (but begrudgingly grateful) musicians.

Please, shut the fuck up. Condescending asshat.

I honestly find it quite surprising that you've apparently spent half a fucking year working on your track and still have not managed to finalize it. I don't know what kind of music you make, but that's pretty bad. What if the deadline hadn't been pushed back? Would you not submit your track, because it's 'not finalized'? And another thing, don't act like your song is inherently better just because you've supposedly spent all this time on it.

Nobody in here submitted a week into the compilation (or if they did, they did not honestly expect to get in). Don't pretend like everyone else is inferior/rushing things just to make yourself feel better; most of us care about this album just as much as you do.

One final thing, please learn to capitalize your sentences properly, as well as capitalizing 'I'm'.

And yes, I'm being an asshole. I know.

Must be nice for somebody to have all 6 months to work on that song, and not spend:

- 3 months at sea.
- 1 month total leave to visit family for the holidays and pre-deployment.
- 1 month total working a 12 on, 12 off schedule with late flights, where the only thing you can do is get home, shower, and go to sleep. Wake up, repeat.

*Ending time able to focus on BP track: ~ 1 month*
*Total projects thrown out: ~15-20*
*Given each attempted project is at least half a day's work (for the most part), what you have left is...

~ 10 days

Before you start accusing people of wasting time or procrastinating, maybe take into consideration that not everybody is a fellow high school student that (for the most part) has absolutely no other obligations once they're finished with class.

My turn to be the a-hole, and I'm just simply gonna say, "Ya don't know nothing about managing time yet kid, so don't pretend like you do."

While I truly do feel sorry that you weren't given the time to properly complete a track, you missed the point (also, the guy specifically said that he's been working on his track "all these months", unlike us mongrel hordes who apparently have nothing better to do than shit out a track in a week and submit it).

My point was not to imply that he was procrastinating (though I did do that, it was not my intention). I rather meant to bluntly tell him how much he sounds like a condescending douchebag.

So while you're probably right that I have no idea how to manage time, this guy was still being quite condescending, which I think you can agree with.

Hi this is me.

My track had been complete for months, with *occasional* mixing fixes now and then.

Excuses reasons for time extensions:

Time extension #1: I promised that the week before submissions were due, I would try to give constructive feedback on current mixdowns to help increase the chances of their submissions receiving higher scores. I was going to have people help me, but they dropped out, and it ended up taking more time than I thought. By the time I was at the end of the list, the deadline was looming, so I extended it for a couple of days. Meaning 2. This is what everyone is mad about. Two days.

Time extension #2: I realized that work was going to be happening at the exact same time I would need to provide the judges with links to each track. It had nothing to do with how much time anyone needed except for me and the judges.

Stop bickering.

What. Whaaat? Seriously?? Has it really only been two days?? Woaah. Whaaat.

*This is the moment where Joke's brain realises it has stopped functioning normally and it's internal clock needs replacing, resulting in an implosion of the section of his brain allotted with keeping track of and understanding time*

My entire perception of time has just been obliterated. Has it really only been 2 days?? It feels like weeks. I mean, I knew my internal clock, sleep patterns, and just general time management skills were terrible, but this has thrown it.

I... I need to start getting more sleep.
