I'll go ahead and be that one kid that everyone hates and just say Minecraft, hands-down. No other game is as free of a sandbox as Minecraft while still being fun and (relatively) simple to play.

Runners-up:
- Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 & 3 (2 wasn't very good)
- Diablo II
- Kerbal Space Program
- Skyrim
- Dustforce
- VVVVVV
- Portal 1 & 2
- Toribash
- Super Mario Galaxy (this one's very recent for me but holy cow is it amazing)
Notebook Memories, the debut album from yours truly, is currently up on my bandcamp for free. Any feedback, encouragement, hate mail, etc. is highly appreciated! Even just listening is pretty cool of you tbh.

Scrabble - It's a staple of my family. Any time I visit home, we have to play
Guitar Hero - I'm semi-pro at it. I've got a few top 50 scores on scorehero.com's leaderboards.
Tabletop RPGs - because you can literally do anything. I don't like being hindered by the universe that is programmed into a video game.

Fucking 3-year necro.

- Myst (1-4)
- Portal (1+2)
- Audiosurf
- Cave Story
- Universe At War: Earth Assault
- Marble Blast Gold/Platinum
- any StabYourself game
- Minecraft (only for the pixel-art)

Best game on top, decreases in bestness going down the list.

Hmm... let's see...

Okami. Love that one.
Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles are good.
Hotline Miami.
Far Cry 2 is pretty fun too. Especially putting rainforests on fire. And I suppose taking malaria medicine away from people to undermine the opposing faction and then go work for that faction doing some other thing to undermine your former employer. Of course, in my defence I didn't do it for free.
Pathologic.
Team Fortress 2 is fun too.
Both Portal games.
Hitman: Blood Money was good.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Those poor civilians did not see me coming.

There may be more, but I'm going to bed.

Doesn't seem like many people are fond of the more immersive, simulator type games :(

If you're a fan of combat simulators mixed with FPS style gameplay, I encourage you all to check out MechWarrior Online: http://www.mwomercs.com

It's completely free to download and free to play. There are some perks worth spending real money on, but compared to other free2play, pay2win type games, this game has less on the pay2win side, with the majority of the top teams running assets and modules available to every player. In fact, I'd say about 90% of the game's content you don't need to spend any money to acquire. Money just helps you acquire them faster.

Anyway, here's a video showcasing the gameplay by the NGNG team:

If you're into FPS games or tank sims you'll probably like this game. It has a steep learning curve, but a very open community with lots of units to join that'll help get you trained up. Although you should join Clan Wolf because Errodien doesn't like bronies and there's 3 of us in the unit thus far ;)

And just to be clear, this isn't Japanese inspired mecha. This is westernized mecha. The mechs are essentially just tanks on legs, and in the universe they're based in (BattleTech), they behave in a more realistic fashion similar to modern war technology.

Wow, this is a pretty old thread.

But since we're bringing it back from the graveyard.

My favorite older games (as in pre-PS3/360 old)

- Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee/Abe's Exoddus (PS1)
Stunning games. Atmosperically they're brilliant, the detail put into the locations is still really impressive and the story had me hooked from the get-go. The only thing I actually hated about the first one was the lack of a quick save.

- Super Mario World 3 (GBA)
Because it's effin' Super Mario 3. Plus it has one of the most memorable soundtracks of any game I've ever played.

- Sheep, Dog n' Wolf (PS1)
One of those goofy little Loony Toons games that came out on the PS1. It's sort of half the fact that it's colorful and legitimately challenging at times and half nostalgia for me.

- Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped! (PS1)

This one's also got a lot of nostalgia value for me, it was one of the first games I ever played. Fun times.

- Oddworld: Munches Oddysee (XBOX)
Say what you will, it's still a solid enough game. Nowhere near as atmospheric as the first 2 games, and any wildlife in Munch's Oddysee didn't induce anywhere near as much panic and urgency as they did in the first 2, which took EVERY opportunity to toss Scrabs and Paramites at you to scar the crap outta you. In Munch's Oddysee, you encounter each maybe twice in the game and you get a power up that lets you outrun them. Nowhere near as much impact to it. But it still has the same flair Oddworld Games are really well known for. just done differently. Not always very well though.

- Spyro: Gateway To Glimmer

Over in the US you'd know this as 'Ripto's Rage', but in Europe and Australia we got Gateway To Glimmer ('sides, Ripto's Rage is a dumb name). But I like this for pretty much the same reasons I like Crash Bandicoot. Fun levels, lots of platforming, tight gameplay and that setting that looks super damn kiddy but it doesn't explicitly pander to kids. Also I would SO play a game entirely revolving around killing Moneybags in as many ways as possible.

- GTA: San Aundreas (PS2)

I feel like this is the only GTA game I ever really enjoyed. Vice City was ok, and III was a bit awful to control, but SA was the one that had gameplay that caught up to the typical GTA setting well enough to get my biased ass to play it. Plus the map size was really dang impressive for the time.

- Destroy All Humans! (PS2)

This game is actually a pretty clever concept. You play as an alien invader, going around reaping mayhem through 1950's America with alien weapons and telekinetic powers. And it's full of B-movie parody. It's not a very serious game and a lot of what happens is played for laughs, but it's still a fun way to spend a few afternoons.

- The Jak and Daxter series (PS2)

I like platforming, guns, hoverboards, almost parody-like levels of angst in main characters and cars with guns on them. 2 of these games have these, the first one is a lot more lighthearted than the later games. But all of them are pretty fun games, and they have a pretty decent story to go with em.

- Pokemon Blue (Gameboy)

As much as I don't really like Pokemon anymore, I really loved Pokemon Blue. Along with Super Mario, this was one of the only games I even owned when I was 6.

Current Favorites

- Red Dead Redemtion
- The Saints Row Series
- Starbound
- Terraria
- The Half Life Series
- Left 4 Dead 1&2
- Skyrim

I don't really have much to say about these other ones. Maybe I'll edit some in later.
I'm not here anymore, but if you want you can still just call me Mr. BigBagelBoggle!

So far, it you have to be...

World of Warcraft
Skyrim
Grand Theft Auto 4
Alan Wake

Of course, these are all the games that I've liked out of the ones I've played so far. I have a fairly long list of games I have yet to get and play.

@Sir Bigglesworth Ooh! I love your choice of games! I love the crash and spyro series, and Ive actually been thinking about getting the oddworld series lately.

So...more games I like:

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex is probably my second favorite crash game ever, next to twinsanity. Yes, it beats warped, because WoC was the first game I ever owned.

I'm a big ps2 freak, so more games I like include Froggers Adventure: The Rescue, Rayman 2, Crash Warped, Spyro: A Heroes Tail, Nitro Kart, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, the entire Sly Cooper series (my favorite is 2), ATV Off-road Fury 3, CTR, Spyro YotD, Sonic Heroes, Kingdom Hearts, Nicktoons Unite, Pacman Fever, and Pacman World 2.

As far as other platforms, Sonic Colors, Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario 3D Land, Gameboy Tetris, KH3D, Kid Icarus Uprising, KH re:coded, Links Awakening, Minecraft, the Portal games, Super Meat Boy, Lord of the Rings Online, and Cave Story.

I also just recently picked up the Humble Indie Bundle X, so let's see how Surgeon Simulator 2013 turns out.
Colorkek that makes computer noises.

What's my main genre? All of them.
