Modern 80s Style Synthpop & Nu Disco

Postby XXDarkShadow79XX » 08 Feb 2014 16:34

If you know me, then you'll know that I will love any edm genre you put in front of my face. Modern disco is not a good example of this. I love it from the purest part of my heart.

I do not claim to know anything about music from the 80s. But I do claim to love this:

I can only hope that we are all here to bask in the glory.

Here's a list of some good Nu-disco from the last decade. http://rateyourmusic.com/list/TheScient ... c_revival/

Defintely can recommend that whole Metro Area Album

Also of course the last Daft Punk album which you hopefully grabbed already.

Ah, my music. I live and breathe synthpop.

Not the surrogates from the 21st century, mind you, but the real deal, the original stuff from the 80s. I'm one of the very, very few fortunate members here (the only one even?) who were around when it was new.

Now let's all take a trip down Memory Lane, shall we?
Spoiler Memories:
This song was kind of the birth of New Romantic.

You often only needed two people for making synthpop.

Note how many hairstyles Annie Lennox goes through within 1 music video clip.

Never mind the background singers, Erasure are only a duo.

A synthpop group from Norway and their first big smash hit with THE cult synthpop video. Pity they sounded like Coldplay before they disbanded.

Here, have something from 1979: Gary Numan of Tubeway Army fame.

Don't forget the spoiler tags guys. Loading 5 embeds at once is not fun, especially on a physically degrading Macbook.

Not going to lie, that's more funk than disco. I'll always be all for Discovery:

I honestly don't mind when the music's from. It can be from 40 years ago, or 4 days ago, though my ears are more accustomed to the latter, only having 15 years to speak of at the time of writing this. This thread is really meant for the newer variety, because honestly, the 80s deserve their own thread. (Hint, hint)

EDIT: Oh god. How could I have possibly forgotten, especially after mentioning Daft Punk?

Here, how appropriate:

Okay, thrown it all into one spoiler because more than four wouldn't work.

I don't know how many of you heard of FM Attack (=one guy with synths), but the sound is amazing!

This is the latest album "Deja Vu". Each song is ... just fantastic!

You might want to discover Cobra Copter, Ridley Slott, Shirobon, Kavinsky (one of my favs), Futurecop!, Electric Youth, Anoraak. Besides YT and SC, check out Bandcamp and the tags "80s" or "Nudisco".
