I'm willing to bet money that some people here have done this. I mean no offense to you. I actually might want to know what's going through your heads. I see the following, in whole or in part, in a lot of descriptions on YouTube, Soundcloud, and pretty much anywhere else music can be publicly uploaded. Ahem...

To prevent this from being tl;dr, I will just start by saying that I don't think it is a good idea to introduce yourself with most of the highlighted things in the above sentence. (The age part gets to me most for some reason.) I'll save my more detailed opinions until after others have expressed theirs. On a side note, I think the above sentence could allow for some hilarious mad lib action. On a further side note manually entering all these color tags is tedious. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

I think that kind of thing is fine if it's your CHANNEL description, but if it's the description of a song as this post seems to imply, then I don't really see the point because it says nothing about the actual music, only yourself. I guess it's just kinda telling of their motivations if they only talk about themselves and not the music. I think the reason listing age is annoying to you is because it has nothing really to do with music (you could be a 67 y/o producer who's only been at it for two weeks). Once again, I think it's fine to put that info in your about me section, but if it's in the song description, it really just comes off as annoying and unnecessary.

You're right, this sort of intro is omnipresent and terrible. I prefer letting my audience ascertain a picture of me through my music, hence the entirety of my SC bio being "What am I even doing" and various other intentionally vague and nonsensical revelations. It's also important to avoid being a cookie-cutter musician; in such a competitive and diverse field, it really pays to stand out, not to just be like every other player in the game. Uniqueness gets you far in the music world, in many ways.

I get that, but seriously, I can't tell you how many times I've followed those links to find such a bad/novice sounding track from someone that's obviously only had the hobby for a couple weeks. Gah, maybe instead of whoring around your music everywhere you should instead be focusing on making decent music.

Thanks for bringing this up. The age thing really gets to me. It's the same thing on this other website that I go to (pcpartpicker). When people are displaying their build, kids especially, they'll put "13-year olds first gaming build" and then in the description they'll put "So I'm 13 and it was hard to save up for all these parts yada yada" and then end up with 40+ upvotes (that's pretty decent on pcpartpicker), even if their build is just a generic 'threw in parts that reliable and powerful for cheap, but don't look very decent together' type of build. It really annoys me.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who finds the age thing annoying. It bothers me, because it either says, "Look at me I'm a child prodigy," or, "I'm young, so you should hold my music to a lower standard and subscribe to me to boost my self esteem." I would rather listen to your music, decide whether I like it, and then find out through the grape vine that, "You're how old?" and be impressed. If you've advertised how old you are, I won't be impressed by it.

And I'm a bit surprised that everyone wants to fill out the mad lib. Needless to say, I won't be. Blegh.

I've had problems with this kind of formatting myself. I still gotta change it for my Warmonger O and ExoBassTix accounts (though Xalpheon, being the philosophical bastard he is, already has something deeply unique).

I think this kind of formatting is a bit effortless, and less binding with your followers. It makes for a less intimate listening experience, all by all. Just like all people having tour dates or ALL CAPS in their bio ... Just ugh.
