Your Picks for Albums of 2013?

Postby Freewave » 04 Jan 2014 17:03

I admit I pretty much avoided current music all year. I have a feeling that if i didn't these hot bands would just be replaced by a batch of fresh new faces in the next couple of years.

That's not to say there wasn't some great music out there, what were YOUR favorites this year?

Well, I never really am up-to-date with new stuff unless I'm told about it, it's big in the news or it's a track from someone I admire deeply.

Anyways, when I read the question, two albums inmediately came to mind, and I think that means that those two are my favorites. But still, I dunno.

Dang you guys know exactly what I was gonna say.

Though I thought some of the songs were a little too similar, I can't get enough of "This Time Around". Asa (who I assume is the singer) has just the perfect voice for KOAN's music.

While we're on it, how do you guys pronounce KOAN? I say cone, even though it's apparantly ko-anne.

ASA is actually a producer that KOAN collaborated with. The singer for that song was Koo.

I kinda switch in between pronouciations. I say it as cone a lot even though I know it should be co-anne.

Oh wow I didn't even know ASA was another producer. Koo seems like a fitting name for the voice. I'll look up ASA

Haha yea, Asa is pretty good (never really taken my time for the Sanctuary album though).
I believe that I once fell in love with a Chillstep remix of one of Asa's tracks.

I've gone through my albums a bit, and found that I missed a few essential ones for here.

Into The Dark Lands (Follow The White Rabbit)
Bjørn Rohde - Soundscape EP

You asked for it.

The Cat Empire - Steal The Light (brassy/jazzy/party/ska goodness)
Hungry Kids of Hungary - You're a Shadow (my indie rock quota was filled for the year)
Cherax Destructor - Amity Lines (omfg)
sci - PLAYFUL PONI MUSIC!!! ^__^ (IT'S REALLY HAPPY AND IT MADE ME HAPPY TOO)
Neil Finn & Paul Kelly - Goin' Your Way (a.k.a. those two guys who everyone should worship)
Addictia - Diversity (I dunno I really liked it)
Senntenial - Charge (kinda kooky and odd but it really sets itself apart from other releases I've heard this year)
currently on a hiatus from actively making music due to school

looking at all these posts, i kinda regret drifting away from edm last year. only albums of that kind i listened to last year were Random Access Memories by Daft Punk and Settle by Disclosure

but I really liked
Pure Heroine by Lorde
Hesitation Marks by NIN
I Am Mountain by Gungor
Repave by Volcano Choir
Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend
Kveikur by Sigur Rós
Tomorrow's Harvest by Boards of Canada
Birthdays by Keaton Henson
If You Leave by Daughter
and i would be remiss if i didn't include Seeds of Kindness 3 along with Before these Mighty Skies lol

after thinking about it, I think Leaving EP by Skrillex was released in early 2013, correct me if I'm wrong? ugh so many albums
