The con for Patcher is that you can't build a patch around one of FL's native synths - the whole point is to build around a plugin. However, you can still save FX chains that you use on native synths and load a Patcher as a mixer insert.

That totally reminds me of synth+effect racks in Ableton and environment editor in Logic.

There is literally no rule anywhere about not discussing pirating. The rule is "no illegal file sharing", and since we're not fucking linking them to a cracked version of the DAW it should stay because it's relevant.

Son of a beach, 9V. I was wondering why the hell I hadn't seen you on in forever, haha.

Anyways, I'd like to point out that there is a lot of potential for DJing with FL Studio, and it's often overlooked (actually I don't know how often it's overlooked). Deckadance looks like a solid piece of software, and can be used either in FL or as a standalone.

Also, if you're good with SynthMaker in FL, there's tons of potential with that to make some really cool effects, the most notable is that you can program it into hardware so that if you, say, turn the phaser knob on the DJ deck, the lights suddenly move out of the position they were and flash and twist in response to you turning the knob.

People really overlook this, and I think that when I get into doing live performances, I'm totally going to use a combination of deckadance and synthmaker or something, haha.

Deckadance is a separate program that doesn't require FL studio to work. You are confusing it to be part of FL studio because demo version is installed with it, but you have to buy it separately if you are not pirating FL.

As such, Deckadance has nothing to do with FL's capabilities.

Version 2 of the DJ mixing application works either as a standalone program or as a VSTi inside your favourite host.
from the image-line website

I mostly mention that it would go well with FL because that's the developing company of it, and because Synthmaker is inside of FL as well. But whatever.

Ok, so I googled dubturbo just for the goofies, and I guess they're doing this $500 prize contest where you take a small video or something of a song you made in their software and then upload the video in a response to their main video, and if your song is good enough, you win the prize for the day (week? I dont know). This was the winner of the first $500: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... XFNPU#t=46

I can't stop laughing.

And Sonic Beats is almost calling people who make music in studios stupid, haha. Sonic Beats is even worse, hahahaha. These third rate junk pieces of "professional music production" softwares are just complete jokes. (obvious, Iknow).

Ok, sorry to derail the thread even further but who the fuck's idea was it to give $500 dollars to someone who made that piece of garbage? What kind of moron would think the creator of that shitpile deserves that kind of money?

I think its a contractual thing in that they have to give $500 to someone so they choose a person at random...

could be a great way to make money though for people who actually spend time with EDM and stuff. Spend the money for the program and make a mediocre song every week...

I can probably think of a couple other things to say about Cubase. I haven't used any other DAWs to comare to, though:

Pros:
The automation in Cubase is pretty good if you use the automation track rather than recording it into the MIDI part. It's much easier to tweak there. I do that ALL the time.
It has a score editor, though I personally haven't used it yet.

Cons:
No MIDI learn for mixer controls. You have to manually set up any controls you want to control with your faders.
No resampling. If you want to resample Cubase's output, you have to export a mixdown and reimport the audio file.
Built-in bridging for using 32-bit plugins in 64-bit Cubase sucks. Get JBridge if you're doing any of that.

I think I can be added to LMMS as I used it for over 2 years before switching to FL 11. My skype is stakeoutpunch.

I can add a few things as well.
Cons:
Can only render to .wav and .ogg, can't render MIDI or anything else.
32bit version can be hacked to use ASIO but otherwise has terrible latency (When using LMMS on Windows).

There have been virtually no major updates in a number of years;

I'd like to point out that while the way this is worded is true, it doesn't mean that LMMS has not had major things added to it.

Jeez... I just looked up FL Studio 6 (since this is what I started with and have since upgraded)
It makes me with that I had waited to buy it, because back in 2006 they didn't even have lifetime free updates ;_;
I'm not afraid to admit that I pirate FL now, but only because if I spend 200 to get a version when it comes out its kinda asshole-ish to charge for updates while everyone else gets free ones.

False.

According to http://www.image-line.com/documents/news.php?entry_id=1282608630,
Image-Line wrote:For more than 13 years we have been giving away updates to registered customers free of charge. We hope you have enjoyed these version updates as much as we enjoyed giving them away.

Free updates have been around for much longer than 7 years ago at 2006. If you did actually buy it, that means you have an account with them, and you should probably ask their support for help to get your free updates working.

the only exception I can think of is if a friend had already registered a boxed version, and then gave away the physical boxed version to somebody else. The somebody else would not be entitled to free updates as the copy had already been registered. (actually I have no idea how boxed versions used to work, so whatever.)

Image-Line did say that, you're right. I do have an account with them. The thing is though, you have to pay 30 dollars to get the free updates, rather than them coming with the software. And being a teenager, I have no money. I'd show you a picture of the disc but I'm not at home right now.

EDIT:

This is what it says on my account.

And this.

See? Updates aren't free before FL Studio 7.

Garage Band:

Pros:
- If you own a mac, you have it.
- Interface is mostly easy to use
- Small amounts of sample editing and time flexing
- Can record audio
- Project files can be imported into Logic Pro 9
- Accepts AU plugins.

Cons:
- Only comes for mac
- Synths are limiting and sample quality is not always the best.
- Only two busses. One for echo and one for reverb
- Small number of available effects.
- Sample editing can be quite difficult to use.
- Weird bugs may occur (random measures not playing and so on)
- Master track is restricting (I recommend exporting and reimporting for mastering)
- Only accepts AU plugins
