If you can, don't master you own mix.
I mean, really.
Ideally (probably), the point of mastering should be to have a fresh set of ears and a completely fresh perspective listen to your mix and take out any little errors there MAY be there (if the mix is good enough, they won't have to do anything tedious!)

You could master you own mix, perhaps if it's months after you've last touched it. Or if you take a bunch of ruphies when you're done mixing! :D

But yeah. Get someone who knows at least a LITTLE bit of what they're doing (and who you know won't just slap shit on there to "make it sound better and louder"). Or let them do that, lmao, it's your mix, make it sound how you want to sound.

I master my own music for this exact reason, I don't know anyone with a similar experience level as me (certainly not more) and those quick $20 mastering sites are a waste IMO.

But I do agree with everything you say, its why I master a lot of my friends work as well as some people here on MLR.

Might not work too well because you know...not everyone is as good at it, but hey, could be a fun idea.

See, this wouldn't be too bad! :D Who knows, you could get a product you like.

assuming there isn't that one guy who goes "LOLOLOLOL" and +50db brickwall limits it

For people who want free practice its a good idea, and an artist doesn't have to use the mastered song if they don't like the work done.

I master my own songs too, haha. Just wait a week to allow your mind to sorta clear up, it'll give you a pretty fresh perspective on the song.

Cechk out "MixMasta's 'Mix Masters Master Mixes'" thread, it's a master exchange thread per request, in case anyone's interested.
