I'm probably wrong, but could you just use some dj software, and scratch a sample of a bass line?

Oh ok thanks anyway I realised now that I need to make something original so I will just mess around with my software and we what comes out. Thanks very much for the reply! :D

Hmmm, well, my copy of massive isn't working while I wait for Native Instruments to actually reply (if they ever do), so I can't give you anything exact, but if I had to guess, It would consist of one of the first three Digital/Hybrid waveforms (Deep throat maybe... idk), and the wavetable position is being modulated by an slow-attack envelope. The other two waves are probably saws. There is also a filter (I think its scream, but this is all guess work here) with a cut-off and resonance that are being modulated by a Performer. This performer is whats giving the cool scratchy sound.

Just as a general rule, I'd imagine there is a Brauner Tube (or Tele) in FX1, and (from parts later on) it sounds like he added a Dimension Expander.

Anything else I don't feel comfortable saying. Even what I already have is guess work from experimenting with similar sounds. The radio-like sound is created by cutting out all the bass and highs, and boosting the 1.5kHz range. (Parametric EQ 2 in Fl studio has a preset that does this fine)

I have another sound I wish to know how to make.
It's the bass used in sonic breakbeats song Vertigo it starts at around the 56 second mark.

Okay, got Massive working again; I tried making a scratchy sound. I couldn't get his exact sound, but these pictures gives an idea of how to get the sound effect:

Teehee!

Anyways, if you're trying to learn synthesis, Sytrus is NOT a good one to start on. Sytrus is an FM (frequency modulation) synth, which is the most complicated type of synth. The others are additive and subtractive, which are where I'd start to learn. I'd look up some additive synthesis tutorials for FL on YouTube and go from there. :3

I recommend selecting presets and taking them apart to see how those particular sounds are made. This is very good practice and it really helps with learning things like, "so doing this will make THIS sound, and doing this will make it sound more like THAT."

Study the presets!

How do i make the main synth in the drop of this song (around 0:44)?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY_x6DtxHMA

Also how do i make the synth that comes in at 1:40 in this song?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn6pT6ELTkQ

One or the other would be fine, just need at least one of these sounds for a song i am doing.

thanks for your time.

Its pretty much a lot of detune, and multiple voices. Or resample a synth sound with lots of harmoni

thanks this is very useful

this one was very useful, thanks a lot :)

Just fucking shiggy diggy their methods. like 99% of shit pretty much transfers from every synth. just look at what parameters they move, and try to find out why. then you find what you can do to replicate it on your shit.

oh ok then, i was being stupid sorry ;p. thanks agian.

Well, that song is one of Malcolm Brown's, so I know exactly how he made it: He used the "Orchestral Chime" preset from EWQL Orchestra pack...

However, you could make a bellish sound in Massive by using the Sinarmonic II wave (Basic, second from bottom), pushed up by an octave with the Wavetable position pushed all the way to the left. Set the second oscillator to Sinarmonic I, and push the position halfway, keeping it at 0.00 semitones.

In the noise osc. select "Bright" and push the color to about 3 o' clock, and the amp all the way to left.

In the filters tab, put an Allpass in F1, and set the Cutoff nearly all the way to left, and put the resonance up to around 11 o clock.

Now, add Envelope one to adjust the Amps of Osc 1, 2, and Noise. For 1 and 2, set it all the way around, and for Nosie, put it about 1/4 of the way around.

In the envelope settings, Turn the attack to zero, Level all the way up, Decay around half way, Level all the way down. Leave the other knobs as they are.

Then sequence the notes in your DAW and add a REALLY fast delay and a reverb. It won't be perfect, but if you want the exact thing, you'll need to sample

I always loved the supersaws of Straftanz, and was wondering if anyone could help me out here? The superdistorted thing in the beginning here. There's some delay and distortion involved, but I can't for the love of me make the sound.

I've got Harmor and Massive for sounddesign, so if you were able to recreate it within those plugins, it'd be more helpful

It's one of the presets in NI Razor... I think it's called Rubber or something? You need the free Reaktor player and Razor which costs $99. The presets are in there already.

I need help making the bass at 1:12... sound design's ridiculous.

Similar example is here at 20:00 (no I didn't type that wrong, it's 20:00)

Any tips for applying reverb? I try to use the reverb effect that comes with my copy of Ableton, but I feel it's not doing what I want it to do. It's still functional, yes, but I don't feel like its as powerful as I'd like it to be. I'm doing hardstyle right now, which is notorious for reverb. It'd also be nice for piano to be more reverby, kinda like in Life As We Know It by Alex S. Any tips for reverb? Any suggested methods or VST's or such?
Colorkek that makes computer noises.

I apologize if this is part of "Basic Synthesis 101" or something, but I'm stuck on how to make laser sounds like these.

Well, if you have harmor or really any synth that has an internal filter and can pitch bend, its pretty simple. I'll use harmor in this case to get a sound pretty close.

First, make a playlist pattern something like this, it can be any note, as long as its pitchbent down one octave:
Image

Then, to get the "wet" kinda sound out of it, you'll need to play around with the cut-off and resonance. The sound comes from having a very high resonance with a fairly narrow bandwidth; the cut-off will adjust the tone:
