Then what is a legitimate purpose?

And when is a post a necro?
I've heard before on this board that it's after 6 months, but I've seen itroitnyah calling 1month old posts a necro, so I'm not sure anymore.

I've heard all kinds of figures. Just don't bump old discarded threads with useless posts as that's just dumb. I'd lock but i want the op to be able to update if he ever chooses to as this otherwise a pretty useful thread. ;)

Ninja'd by FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEWAAAAAAAAAVE

(this is quite off topic just saying)

I've heard anywhere from 2 months to 6 months being the minimum cutoff point for being generally a "bad necro". A 1 month post is a necro though, as the topic has been "dead" for a month and many people have probably forgotten about it.

Necros aren't inherently bad though - something that adds to the discussion or poses a question not answered in the thread but still pertaining to it is a "good necro". Some people dislike necros in general though.

Some people also make a distinction between late posts:
Posts that don't add to the discussion or just say something inane or pointless are "necros" and are usually bad as they pointlessly bring back an old topic. Wubstrike's post is this because he was just posting to agree with/give thanks to Symphon without really adding anything.
Posts that add to the discussion and such are rather "revivals" or something like that and tend to be good (or at least better received).

I'm gonna be honest, I forgot about this thread, but now that it was bumped from the depths of hell, I think I'll start adding stuff to it once again. Thanks!

Good to know. I was sad that you didn't say too much about Sytrus. Good to know you're reviving this thread. :D

Sorry if adding to this thing will be slow for the next while. I just moved into my college dorm, and, as expected, kind of a lot of changes. I'll try my best at this, though.
