Glaze Sounds?

Postby Perpetual » 27 Dec 2012 23:54

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of making leads such as in Nightmare Night and also basses like in Lost On The Moon. I really love Glaze's leads, they always have a nice glide to them, and I also love his basses, they have this somewhat of a wobble effect in them. I guess what I want is similar if not exact sounds, I know he uses Massive for most of his sounds which is good since I have that synthesizer, so any help with that would be nice.

He makes heavy use of the modulation oscillator for lots of his sounds.

I can get close to lots of his sounds, cause I've studied them for a while and I listen to him a super shit-ton. The bass in Nightmare Night and a lot of his earlier pony stuff are really saw wave centric. The bass for She's A Pony I believe is one saw wave, 75% phase, and comb filter. The lead for She's a Pony is pretty much the same thing but with some more oscillators in use and up a few octaves of course.

Here I tried to make a bass like him, and it turned out pretty spot on to the Nightmare Night bass.

If you look on Soundcloud in the comments of Beyond Her Garden he put up the .ksd for the lead in that song.

One day he posted some stupid little doodle on tumblr and I tried to remake it. I got pretty close.

Of course this is a question he could answer far better than I can ;)

edit: ha i actually remade the nightmare night lead the other night and didn't save it. if i do it again i'll be sure to let you know

He also uses Sytrus quite a lot, contrary to popular believe that he only uses Massive. There are sounds Sytrus can make that can't be done in Massive.

Given that Sytrus is an FM synth, everything in Sytrus could also conceivably be made in FM8 (or another FM synth). He used Sytrus for the bass and lead of Pixel Rush, among others (he released those patches on tumblr).

He used Massive for the Nightmare Night and Rainbow Factory basses though.

Careful now; one bit of misinformation and you'll never hear the end of it.

Glaze's #1 fanboy is watching this thread.

He's watching

it isn't me btw

ps, I hear he's his #1 listener on last.fm as well

Here's a pack I made a while back of all the main patches I made back then, if you want anything that's not in here tell me what you want and I'll go export it, I don't keep any secrets.

Glaze! I remixed your track Beyond Her Garden, and it was terrible, but it was my first introduction to Massive, so uh... thanks! I haven't looked back since.
New track in the works!!

DAW: Sony Acid Pro 6
VSTi: NI Massive 1.3
Plugins: Not many

You don't need a cabinet full of cleaners to make a sick track

To add glide to a synth in massive, go to the "voicing" tab and set the voicing to monophonic. Then go over to the "osc" tab and in the bottom-left is a little glide wheel. Turn it to achieve desired glide time.

Which one? I downloaded a few of his old doodles that were on his tumblr cause they're so catchy, i'd love to see how those ones are put together.

Thank you so much for these patches Glaze =3

I've been messing around with them and it's helped me understand Massive so much more by seeing how another person does their patches.

I think I'll us these patches more as a learning tool than just to use them.

Thanks, Glaze!
