Honestly I love my studio monitors for everything from casual listening to music production. They just make it all sound so clear and real, it may also help you understand the sound of your monitors better at first if you listen to a lot of music on them.

I also use a pair of old stereo speakers as a reference (they were made in the 80's), I also have an amplifier system from the same time period. I got them at a garage sale for well under $200 and I know you can find a similar deal in the used market. They will make good casual listening speakers but I reccomend trying the studio monitors first.

audiogon is essentially the ebay for audiophiles. Just for when you're browsing the used market.

Yeah, I personally would look locally or used first for some general listening speakers, but those look like they will do a fine job (assuming you have an amplifier to power em').

you won't need much so I guess something like this.
ebay link

Before I installed my proper set-up I was using an old QED preamp as the main amplifier bit.. however this involved making my own cables that had lol emf noise and went from RCA to speaker.

Are you okay with buying a full hi-fi amplifier... that way you can also get a 5.1 speaker system eventually and have heaps of inputs. Just a thought
