Nice. :D

I made a ghetto Atari punk console once with a PS2 controller and a photoresistor, it was horrible :3

I have an Atari punk somewhere too, although it's not as ghetto as yours :P.

They're going to be balls expensive, aren't they? I took a look at some synthesizer modules online and their pricing, and they started at $150, and the cheap ones were more along the lines of loop recorder thingies. The cheapest one that actually had an oscillator was $400 D:

It generated sound using a single 555 timer, and used a microphone as output (it sounded better than the tiny speakers I had), making it even more ghetto. :U

Simple oscillators aren't that complex nor expensive to make apparently, and given the sound sample, it doesn't sound like ASCII's using something too fancy.

I can't read any of those instructions, haha. I have no experience with electronic circuits or anything. The most technical thing I've done like this is put together my computer.

And the connection isssss.... usb? xlr? midi? If you have midi connections, it'd be nice if you offered an option for some people to include a midi-usb cable as well, hehehehehehedoesn't own an audio interface with midi connections

Currently the synth will be only be 1/4" out, 1/4" in for the CV, and ⅛" for the Modulation. As started in the OP the second run will hopefully have a MIDI interface in it, allowing for MIDI in and Thru. As for the option of getting a cable, that's a good idea, however the price extra for the cable would be reasonably high as it would be a USB to MIDI cable , or I may add a USB port to carry MIDI over. Please keep in mind that the prototype hasn't even been built yet.

But you can order midi-usb cables for $6 from amazon. Either way, I'll have to consider buying a synth from you.

If you're worried about price of getting the cable included... why not just get the cable separate...

Yeah, this sounds pretty dang cool! I'll probably consider buying one of these from you, could always use another synth!

I'm thinking of making a Finacing offer... so like each month you pay x amount until you have paid the total. The capacitors will be arriving by the end of the week and the main PCB by next week hopefully... then the rest of the parts in a couple of weeks :3 But yea I can't get over how sexy these knobs are... Also one of the IC sockets I got was missing a Pin :/ and one of the Pots is the wrong value and I forgot I needed 5 switches not 3 so I need to go back to the parts store to fix that stuff up :/

Bare with me on getting the prototype... the rest of the parts may take a while... especially the circutboard
Also this thread will be moved into the Hardware sub-forum soon

I wish I could understand how oscillators make sound, effects, filters and stuff do their work, etc.

I can briefly explain an oscillator...
you see sound is just vibrations hence why sound doesn't travel in the vacuum of space. Basically oscillators create a certain style of vibration or oscillation at a frequencies and that's what creates the sound... now it's actually more complicated than that but you get the idea...

Oscillators create a controlled fluctuating voltage. For example imagine a sine wave; the oscillator will create a voltage that over time falls from positive 1 volt to negative 1 volt and then rises back to positive 1. It'll do that in the shape of a sine wave or if desired a triangle/saw/square wave.

That voltage will then end up pushing a speaker foward and backward in that same positive volt - negative volt waveform, creating vibrations (percise pressure changes) in the air which your ear will eventually receive.
