Yea the one I had I bought off ebay for $200 and well... I don't have it anymore :P

From the demo's I've heard I would pick it over the microkorg, but I have not used it hands on like I have the mocrokorg.

I honestly would save up a bit more and get a synth that will last, look up the minibrute.

The minibrute is probably the best synth you can go for atm. It's fully analog and also quite cheap. it has an odd form factor because it's only a 25? key but it is amazing

However I will say that for the immediate future the Mininova is my first choice. 'Least till I find out what else is readily available. But for the moment it's easy to get and not terribly expensive.

So it keeps that spot for now.

I saw some demo's on this. I'm keeping it in mind. I'm choosing a synth to get pretty soon.

I'm really damn excited!

EDIT: I should probably mention that I'm talking about a little non-concrete goal of mine to own at least 4 or 5 hardware synths by the time I'm 22-23. I'm setting my sights to the Minibrute though. Upon reasearching it does look really awesome, the Metalizer sounds great :D

Well I'll have some sexy analogue sounds to show off soon enough.

oh, question. How the fuck does midi work with these? Do they have an internal peice of software that you can use to lay down midi? Does it need a midi interface or something? Halp

you'll need a midi to usb cable
actually I think the minibrute has a USB port
but basically the midi converts the CV for the synth to a digital signal

Midi works exactly the same way as with a VST synth, you just don't see it working as the computer does everything for you and then hides it from the screen.

When you insert a vst into your DAW your computer creates all the necessary midi communications with that vst. When you are using external gear you need to tell the computer exactly what you want to do with the midi. You'll need a 5-pin midi-usb device to make it happen (often found in soundcards nowadays). You'll tell the computer where to send the midi (to that soundcard), what channel (5 pin midi has 16 channels), and then you will create you piano roll sequence. You'll need to tell the hardware what channel it should look at for its incoming midi messages. Then you just plug in the synth to an audio interface, hit record in your DAW and its finished.

Why would you even need a synth that freaking big?! What practical purpose could that have over something that isn't trying to become the next Godzilla character?

But I have to say he did actually say at one point "I don't deserve all this fucking (modular) stuff, because I have not even half the amount of knowledge some people have and they have a system smaller than my computer"

My cousin makes a lot of alternative noise stuff and it's all done real time... recorded once and not edited afterwards so I guess it helps to have a big synth for that

Makes sense. Do you have to switch the midi input or something to use internal vst synths along side it? Or is it just global and includes that synth.
