Don't get a microkorg, get the bass station.

You will also want midi I/O's in the interface unless you never want the commuter to sequence and automate the synth for you.

^ this

the micro korg is odd but simplistic... imho a little over hyped

Fret not. I'm going with the BS2. It looks nicer, sounds better and has a lot more features that look like my kinda thing. The Micorkorg looks kinda cheap and sounds a little average imo. The built-in vocoder is cool enough in concept, but I'd probably never use it.

I'm particularly looking forward to messing with the acid filter, distortion and overdrive functions. They sound really awesome in the videos I've seen so far.

Oh, and Pulse Width modulation looks interesting.

WOAH. When I saw this I couldn't believe it at first. I even looked at the audio waveform myself in Logic just to make sure it wasn't some sort of glitch or something, and I got the same results, even with both of Massive's saw waveforms. What the heck is up with that? haha.

Thank you for letting us know about this, HMage! Now I'm basically using Sylenth for anything that I can, even though I cannot hear the difference still. It makes me wonder why Massive was developed with those "sawtooth" waves in the first place. It might take some getting used to though, since modulation in Massive is so much easier and precise generally.

I still suck at making interesting electro basses in Sylenth though :(

I remember reading somewhere that deadmau5 uses Sylenth for almost all of his non-analogue sounds, especially his plucks, and now I am starting to see why.

I decided to do the same as Kyoga in putting the synths through an oscilloscope and making sure Massive was set to only saw wave
Here's the results:

What I did was I played an unfiltered saw wave at a sub frequency (around 41Hz or something) and then bounced it to audio, and observed the waveform that way.

I didn't test out how the saws in Sylenth and Massive look when played in higher frequencies though.

Captain Ironhelm wrote:. . . So I just ripped the waveforms out of Sylenth (I exported [a single note] to .wav and then cut out a single wavecycle) . . .

You can do the same with Massive (or any other synth) . . .

And then you can load the waveform into any synth that allows it (z3ta+2, GMS, Harmor, Skanner.etc)

Sometimes the standard patch on Massive is a saw wave mixed with a square wave. Are you sure the wavetable position knob was turned all the way to wave? because when I went to put Massive's Saw through an oscilloscope I found it to be a rather typical saw wave (identical to the bottom wave, obviously)

Had to reinstall massive to make sure.

Yes, wavetable position all way to maximum (saw) on both waveforms.

Note played on picture above — D1. The higher the note, the less bent the waveform is. At D3 the bend totally disappears.

Patches initialized this way: file -> new sound. Quality ultra.

Well, on the topic of softsynths, I really like 3xosc.

It's so simple and no-nonsense, just what you need in a wavetable synth and nothing else.

I suppose it has a little bit of customizability when it comes to the oscillator. They have a free demo.
