Favorite Key and Time Signature?

From scales and semitones to pentatonics and cadence patterns. It's all about the science behind the expression, here.

Favorite Key and Time Signature?

Seriously. Some of you guys get really creative with your signatures, so I want to hear what your favorites are. Like the Blues scale? Maybe just some classic Major? And maybe you love the wackiness of 8/7? Just tell us what and why.

Hard mode: You can't choose 4/4 or C Major/A Minor.

Time signature: 13/8. Easy. Three sets of eighth-note triplets, four straight eighth notes. Arrange them however the hell you want. Switch it up every measure. So much fun. :D

Key: I don't really have any favorites here since I don't normally put a lot of thought into keys - I occasionally roll dice because I don't feel like picking one. Eb major, D major, D minor, and B minor seem to be my go-to keys if I have to choose. I really love the sound of melodies using natural minor scales, though!

When I'm doing EDM, probably either 4/4 or 12/8 in A or D minor.

When I'm doing piano improv though, my favorite Key (and most useful I've found) is the Half-Lydian Dominant. (Think C major, but when you hit the F, you play both F natural and F sharp; same with A and Asharp [technically B flat])

I also love pentatonic and Harmonic Minors. Some of the modes are really nice too (Like Lydian and Phrygian)

Its useful because it allows for a full circle of fifths and really cool cadences because every chord except iii and vi are major.

VII-I, VII-IV-I, vi-IV-VII-I, IV-ii-II-V-I... etc.

I'm just kinda confused. When you say play at the same time, do you mean you literally play the notes at the same time (that's what I thought you meant and it sounds hurf) or do you mean they're in the same key thus can be played as well without accidentals? .-. I'm gonna assume the latter now that I've tried it.

It is indeed the latter. (The first one would give really strange suspended chords that I actually kinda want to try now...)

It's definitely really, really dissonant and would be really hard to pull of, but if you can, I'd love to hear it.

Favorite time signature used to be 7/4, but I've started writing quite a lot in 13/8 recently and I'm liking it.
As for key, probably D minor.

D Dorian and C minor are da bes
As for time signatures I either go for fairly normal, or do pieces that don't stay in any time signature for more than 3 bars.

C# major is fun, and I normally write in either 6/8 or 4/4 because I'm so creative. I normally change them up a few times through the song though.

I never understood what a time signature is, I'm pretty sure all the DnB I made is 4/4? I have no clue.

I play in whatever key I feel, I usually have a song in my head and I throw it in my DAW trying to figure out what key it is, so there really is no preferable key I play in.

Time signature is how many beats are in a bar, and how many bars are in a measure. 4/4 would be like, kick-hat-hat-hat four times, and that'd be the measure. 3/4 would just be kick-hat-hat, four times. 4/3 would be kick-hat-hat-hat three times. Simple, yeah?

When I song write I usually write between the keys of G and B. (My strongest singing range.)
When I compose, my choice in keys is dependent on the mood of the song. Every key has its own personality.

As for time signatures, I usually stick with 4/4 and 6/8, unless I feel like getting funky.

Hard Mode: Mixed Meter in a key I struggle with vocally.

I just realized I never said mine...

Mine would either be F Minor, G Major, or A Blues Scale. Time would be 5/4, definitely, just because I can do some interesting things with triplets with it.
