Of course chiptune isn't dead! In fact, I'd say it's been picking up steam in the past decade or so. Kinda has to be, since retro games have been doing the same in a similar frame of time. For example, look at Shovel Knight; 90% NES accurate, and sports a 100% accurate Famicom soundtrack (made in the same tracker you see there, in fact!) How well did it do? Pretty darn well, I'd say.
Then again, it's still very much an underground thing. While the rise of retro revivals has helped chiptune come out from near obscurity, I wouldn't say it's quite mainstream yet. Then again, I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing, either. :P
