Post A Picture Of How You Arrange Your Songs

From scales and semitones to pentatonics and cadence patterns. It's all about the science behind the expression, here.

I think the term really depends on the genre and the person making the music really.

If there's one thing this thread has brought me, it's relief at knowing how many other people also make rainbows with their projects.
Notebook Memories, the debut album from yours truly, is currently up on my bandcamp for free. Any feedback, encouragement, hate mail, etc. is highly appreciated! Even just listening is pretty cool of you tbh.

Am I seriously the only person who uses FL Studio's "group with above track" option in the playlist? lol.

http://gyazo.com/0048b379cf166642800edc0b530d23a6

132 tracks, everything is for the most part assigned its own track in the playlist. Within 1 group, headed off by the instrument's notes to play are all of its automation clips usually following directly afterward.

It took me like 6 copy-pasta edits in MS Paint to get all 132 tracks to be seen at once like this lol.Image Got lazy with the coloring, vox are usually lime green or gold or something along the lines of yellow. Synths are always red, orchestral stuff is always orange, bassline synths are always purple, kicks are always blue, general percussion are always cyan and some yellow color different than vocals.

132 tracks? Isn't that just a slight bit excessive? XD
But seriously, you don't need many tracks to be awesome. Simplicity is magic~ :P

So I've decided to show you what my projects look like on the tracks I get commissioned to mix. This one is maybe halfway through.
So let's start off with the main Sub groups:

Then let's add the breakup Sub Groups:

Now the reverbs:

And Now any parallel processing:

And of course the Audio tracks themselves:

No matter what view the tracks don't fit:

Not really. I don't even name things until the song is like 70% down most of the time.

I don't name them. Get on my level... or don't... It get's annoying sometimes when you have 4 or 5 instances of the same synth used for different things and you need to check all of them to know which one to use :/

And that thing up on the right is cause I have split screens... I wasn't using them at the moment... but for some reason it showed up anyway... idk

And btw, the patterns called Vocode adn Vocode #2 have nothing to do with vocoding...

Used 32 mixer channels that don't fit on the screen. It's a bit stupid to show the mixer anyways, as 1) it's not part of what the thread is about and 2) it doesn't show what FX I used so why should I anyways, but whatever.

I'm still deciding what colours to use for different tracks.
That one green bit going through the entire song is different segments of Glaze's Tough luck, it's a workaround I have to use to be able to make mashcore in a tracker.

All these other posts look really complex to me but maybe that's because i just use trackers.
Or i'm bad at the music thing.

Oh...my....

I rarely have more than 4 or 5 tracks in tandem...even at four the brain fog starts to seep in. Definitely should wait to do automation and fancy with the FX till after the song is done.

This is how I make my music. I use Finale 2012, with a built in VST known as Garritan, which is a real instrument simulator. It is quite tedious, especially when I've got to do an entire orchestra.

At the most basic points, it looks a bit like this:

When it gets more complicated, it looks a bit more like this:

I'm a very minimalistic producer so I don't have many tracks or automations.

Of course chiptune isn't dead! In fact, I'd say it's been picking up steam in the past decade or so. Kinda has to be, since retro games have been doing the same in a similar frame of time. For example, look at Shovel Knight; 90% NES accurate, and sports a 100% accurate Famicom soundtrack (made in the same tracker you see there, in fact!) How well did it do? Pretty darn well, I'd say.

Then again, it's still very much an underground thing. While the rise of retro revivals has helped chiptune come out from near obscurity, I wouldn't say it's quite mainstream yet. Then again, I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing, either. :P

And to keep on topic, I'll post a screen of a new song I literally just released. Believe it or not, this is actually a different fork of the tracker called 0CCft, which changes and adds a lot of things, such those ^1s and ^2s. You can find the newest version in the topmost thread here.
