The "Looking for a vocalist?" List

From scales and semitones to pentatonics and cadence patterns. It's all about the science behind the expression, here.

Postby Stu Beef » 30 Dec 2012 02:12

I'm tired of working with Cloud, so I'm offering my services

I'z Stu, Kenneth, Mr. Beef, Myztery M33T, etc.

<Vocal Range> I'm sort of a Baritenor right now, but at the suggestion of one of my professors I'm trying to bring myself into the Tenor range/tessitura. I can get from about a G2 to the magic C5 (with my falsetto going another octave above that), but I'm definitely not trained to keep that up for long (or have it sound that great).

<Ability level> I am most certainly not a vocalist, but people keep telling me that I sound good so WUTEVS. I am a pretty OK musician though, so I can usually get into a piece pretty well.

<Genres/Speciality> I like to think I can do just about anything (except for sounding like a classically trained musician/singer). I usually do pop and musical theatre type stuff (which cover a pretty wide range I guess). I am starting to rap, though I'm much better at the writing part than I am at the rapping part (in the grand scheme...probably better than you AND your grandma though).

<Audio Quality> Not too bad; listen to some of the more recent stuff I have to get an idea. I use a rode nt1a for my vox and I do all my production in Cubase. I'm definitely getting better as I go along though.

<Vocal Samplez> SUM POP: https://soundcloud.com/slayerzogz/twili ... se-of-fire
[some of my more recent ones have a bit of processing that I don't usually like to do. I try to stick to EQ and compression; no pitch correction]
SUM NU METALZ N GROWLZ: http://youtu.be/QJfZOPgPEuo
SUM RAPZ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k9LweC_ ... ePghBXybyl

<Easiest way to contact you> See my sig! You can contact me through skype as well; my SN is slayerzigx.

<Anything else> As a disclaimer, while I do enjoy the thought of working with people, I can't say that I will definitely work with ANYONE. If I'm not comfortable with the subject matter, worth ethic, whatever, then I reserve the right to uhh... refuse uhh, my services. I'm also usually pretty damn busy, but I LOVE spending my free time working on musical projects (I also like to procrastinate on massive projects by doing smaller ones...). I'm hoping that, if you'd like to enlist my services, you'll work with me to help the process be as quick and easy as possible. Stuff like having everything written/well thought-out, being easy to contact, etc.

Other than that, I hope to be working with some awesome people in the near future!

Woo, since I finally got a mic, I guess I should hit up this thread :3
Hi, I'm Tranquilhooves!
<Vocal Range>I'm a tenor,but I can get into lower alto territory with
the magical help of falsetto.
<Ability level> Pretty good, I'd go 8-9/10, and I've been singing most
of my life. I can learn music pretty fast if that helps :3.
<Genres/Speciality>Honestly, I can probably sing anything you throw at me
EXCEPT METAL. Yeah, definitely can't do metal, I don't have the kind of voice
for that. Otherwise, my strong suits would be classical and pop.
<Audio Quality> I use a Blue Spark mic and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface
for recording with Audacity(lol ik, so bad.), but I don't exactly have a studio, so it's not completely noise free/proof.
<Vocal Sample>Some deadmau5 cover I just did, Joel's voice is actually pretty decent.
https://soundcloud.com/tranquil-hooves/mic-test
The easiest way to contact me would be mostly skype (selim.kelley), or you
can just PM me here on the forum. Hope this helps! :D

I've been thinking this list is getting a bit long. Any suggestions on a way to shorten it?

I'm thinking just having the main important info, name-skills-sample, and then having a link to the rest of that persons post.

Mhm, I think that would work nicely. That way you get the necessary info on the main list but an in depth view from the person itself's post.

So this thread still exists.

Yeah, it seems kind of an ordeal to find the ideal vox (and this thread needs a sticky, shit). I think emphasizing the links to actual material (and cutting back on the rest) would be a lot better for those looking, and those offering their voices. Maybe we could also consider adding audition reel type things so that people can show off their ranges.

Agreed, I also need some way of only keeping those people who are active and responsive on the list. I'm rather bsy with work now but when I get some spare time I'll come up with a better system.

Re: The "Looking for a vocalist?" List

I'd like to edit my paragraph to the following;

Main Skills: Rap, Musicals
<Baritone. Low D (BELOW the Bass Clef ^.^) to E in Treble Clef (i can go higher, but i go into falsetto at F). I haven't rapped in some time, but i have gotten much much better at writing and delivering lyrics. Singing wise I'd be a 7.5 for my voice part (i can't hit the G which is common in a lot of powerful broadway pieces and my Vibratto turns into a single tone around Treble B). but in this fandom, i'd put myself closer to Coconeru, only a Bass. Rap wise, id say i'm an 8. Especially for lyrics I have done quite a few genres and i'm open to any type of instrumental (live recording or Electro). I write lyrics for a music student at my local college, and i have experience in live recording and, of course, performances. - Presonus Audio Interface, Boss VE-20 Vocal Pedal (looper), Shure Sm7b microphone, Condenser Mic, Standard Headphones. Along with Adobe Audition and Studio One for vocal compression and equalization. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m4QkZj02dw - Skype is "itstibblesg".
Fair warning; I have lots of nonpony lyrics to chose from and extend, but since i'm not as into the show as i was it'd be better if you had a premade idea of the song concept if it's pony related.

Postby Zeeraw » 21 Feb 2013 20:04

<Username & Gender> Zeeraw (Philip Vieira), Male

<Vocal Range> Baritenor

<Ability level>
I have the voice of a fucking Alicorn. ;)
Jokes aside, I perform well, do clean takes and never have my stuff pitch-corrected nor auto-tuned

<Genres/Speciality>
I prefer getting out of my comfort zone and try new things. But I'd say the genres I do best is pop, more classical rock and metal.

<Audio Quality>
I use Reaper to record all takes
http://reaper.fm/

Primarily using the condenser microphone, sE2200a
http://www.seelectronics.com/se2200a-mic

or on occasion the Shure SM58
http://www.shure.com/americas/products/ ... microphone

<Vocal Sample>

Hint of Red - Midwives of Discord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12a6LuyRlxs
I do all the vocals for this one

Faustian Bargain - Midwives of Discord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H_7MCsoBwU
Here I do ambient background vocals during the chorus as well as the more clean high pitched bridge

Stellar Collision - Midwives of Discord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFL7qc2orQg
I sing all verses and one harmony of the chorus

<Easiest way to contact you>
I prefer Skype where my username is "Zeeraw", but if you want to contact me through email it's [email protected] - If you want to talk or get any more samples, just contact me.

<Anything else>
I've been singing with the Midwives of Discord, but because the rest of the band has been very absent as of late, I'd like the opportunity to do some collaborations with other people. I don't mind doing stuff outside or unrelated of the brony community.

Postby AdamTh3Walker » 02 Mar 2013 16:02

<Username & Gender> AdamTh3Walker, Male

<Vocal Range> Low tenor to soprano

<Ability level>
I just sing man. I don't mess around with 'mistakes' or 'not hitting the right note'.
Seriously, though, I'm still learning but I've been doing it for 24 years and I'm alright

<Genres/Speciality>
Lounge, pop, jazz, club, hip hop, dream-, bro'scouchdrunkwatchinganime, discouraged twang, and weird chillwave stuff with trailing vocals

<Audio Quality>
Not too awful. I have several quality mics including the CAD M179 and MXL 4000, a basic ART preamp, an M-Audio soundcard, a really cheap pop filter, and a very quiet recording space but I also have the world's noisiest cat so sometimes cats happen you know

<Vocal Sample>
http://soundcloud.com/page-fortysix/foothold-last-second-wip
I sang this one. No autotune or vocal processing of any kind save for EQ'ing it.

<Easiest way to contact you>
Best way to get a hold of me is by messaging me through Soundcloud or emailing me at [email protected]. Or I guess if you want you could drop an ask on tumblr or something. My Skype name is on here somewhere too, but if you can't find it use one of the above and i'll just tell you.

<Anything else>
I love to sing. It's the thing I might be best at next to walking and listening to other people's problems. I'm really crap at writing lyrics though, so just keep that in mind, k?

In a few months I'm going to go around and contact everyone via their main form of contact, you'll have a week to respond or you'll get kicked off the list.

-PYR3LIGHT (Or Pyre, whatever you wanna call me).
-Male

<Range> Baritenor.

<Ability level> 8/10; would bang.

<Genres/Speciality> Rock, metal, pop. Not classical.

<Audio Quality> Not too bad, using a blue snowball into Audacity or FLStudio. (Although I will be buying an external sound driver and an SM58 when I can afford it).

<Vocal Sample> Message me for a sample in a style of your choice! (Because I don't have any to hand right this second (may update)).

<Contact> Message at MLR or email at [email protected]

<Other> I can rap moderately well, and I'm also the vocalist in a "screamo" band so I can do that if that's your thing.
I also play guitar and have a 6string, 8string, and bass guitar to record with!
Also, FIRST POST! :D
