Update #1: M08/D09/2013 TA DAAAAAAAA

Postby Circuitfry » 09 Aug 2013 09:34

(It means August 9th, 2013 btw)

WELCOME TO THE END OF THE WORLD

Oh, but not really! Welcome to the very sweeping big changes that is going to be happening to the forum. Lots of positive things will happen BUT FIRST this place needed some very important organization (and a reason to look at it for a couple of seconds!)

Let's take a look at the menu, shall we?

Round 1: Sweep, revitalize, and polish. The boring and artsy parts.
1. [Circuitfry] Rinse out old dead/useless topics. / Don't remove the spam thread.
2. [PHPony] Organize the Events page to move dead projects to the bottom.
3. [Circuitfry] ~Ten more moderators. DONE.
4. [Circuitfry, PHPony, Rye, Kibbie] Tumblr integration/music news blog
5. [Kibbie, Rye, PHPony] New forum themes. Default is girly, Alternate is stealth mode.
6. [PHPony] Auto-lock after 45 days no new posts, allow exceptions.
7. [Circuitfry] Forum on music gear.

Round 2: Small forum enhancements.
1. [PHPony] Spoiler tags
2. [PHPony] "Go to first post in topic since your last post" button
3. [PHPony] Notification for new PMs (already have it???) and topic responses (subscribe??).
4. [PHPony] Customizable titles + Musician specialty list (vocals/instrument/genre)
5. [Circuitfry] Tutor presence. (Coming soon)
6. [PHPony] Karma system?
7. [Circuitfry] Sample pack events. (Coming soon)
8. [PHPony] Minimum character amount.

Round 3: Big website enhancements.
1. [PHPony, maybe sci] Critique voting system / Chanboard style critique section.
2. [Everyone] Music production wiki
3. [PHPony, Rye] Video/radio chat/IRC ** Don't get blocked at work sites lol
4. [sci, Circuitfry] Work with sci: facelift for toastbeard maybe? or MLR equivalent?

Round 4: Big community enhancements.
1. [Circuitfry] Gaming/IRL events besides Cons
2. [Circuitfry, PHPony, others] More integration with partnering websites
3. [Circuitfry] More global community events!

So ROUND ONE IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW and I hope people aren't freaking out too bad over it!

Just want everyone to know that this forum's layout is NOT final, suggestions ARE welcome, things WILL be okay, everyone CAN chill and relax!

Only happy improvement things will follow after this. All of this right now is just organization and rearranging.

At this point, I like pretty much everything that's gone down except for the archiving of the Music and Discog subforums. Especially the Music section, which always seemed to be pretty instrumental in getting feedback to people who need it and perpetuating discussion about what exactly a given song may need. That works better in a forum setting than in something like EQBeats because in a forum, every post bumps a thread, so every comment encourages more by design, and people in need of actual feedback and criticism rely on this to get what they need.

I dunno, maybe I'm just bummed that it's not all in one site anymore, and it is true that if BMD and EQBeats were to refine their procedures to work better along with MLR, things would probably be better than ever, but for now it just feels like a big chunk of this site has been carved out and replaced with redirects to places that a majority of us didn't use in the first place :/
Youtube -- Soundcloud -- Tumblr -- Bandcamp (new album out!)

I can't feel my brain.

I think having the ONE thread for "review the tracks above you" in the appropriate new forum will be able to replace that whole subforum effectively and give people a chance for feedback and get people realizing that we need to not just drop off tracks for reviews but also listening and making recommendations to their peers. The love you take is equal to the love you make. I see that forum is back open so for now nevermind.

Regarding BMD; the discography idea is dead effectively with that subforum closure.
I'd recommend still getting on BMD and using mlp wikiafor expanding an explanation of you work if need be. I can link to whatever you use but i still only allow youtube embeds (soundcloud embeds and blogger do not get a long) so keep that in mind. We may also may have quite a queue initially so I'll have to see if my staff can handle that initially (especially since I'm out of town this next week)

A thread pehaps for recommendations, questions, and improvements would be great. I'll get one up soon.

Postby Circuitfry » 09 Aug 2013 15:28

See the shortlink section of your songs where it'll say "https://pony.fm/####" ??? That's where you throw in your ponyfm music!

I would like to see pony.fm succeed on mlr as well. It's got a lot more features then eqbeats and while its smaller and newer i highly recommend getting that free pony music hosting on there as it's just a better host i feel.

Yeah gotta use that button with it, but bam!

The choice is yours!

I have added another subgroup called "That's Enough Internet For You Buddy" but let me assure you that you don't want to be in it. It's very boring and I have a notorious history of forgetting who I give a timeout to and whatnot.

Big reasoning for the spoilers i think is blocking videos from loading actually. Like as on this page where you have to click on them to get them to load vs having them autoload and clog a page if there's multiple ones. So they hide text AND stop videos from autoloading.

Lemme see if our current ver works on videos....
Spoiler video:

hidden text

Nope it does not....My recommendation would be to get a spoiler tag that would function like i recommended or its useless for youtube autoloading.
