The Bragging Thread

Sports, politics, movies, videogames, questionable hobbies, photos from your family vacation, etc. Talk about stuff that isn't ponies or music. But do try to stay on topic and respectful of alternate opinions.

The Bragging Thread

Postby Injustrial » 22 Jan 2014 16:20

Tried searching, but didn't find anything like this, so feel free to delete this thread if it's a duplicate.

*ahem*

Us amateur musicians (and professionals too) are often very humble beasts. We don't walk around and talk loudly about our subscription numbers, what we've been awarded with or the praise we've had. (Although there is that "highest praise thread")

I made this thread so we can all show off a bit without feeling like we're "showing off."
Post your greatest achievement to date, about that time you turned down a record deal because you found it too limiting. Post that you've been invited as a VIP to play at a convention, that you've sold over 100 copies of your album.
Anything you feel proud off and you want to share with others.

I'll go first:
Spoiler Bragging:
Out of 10 songs, 8 have been featured on EQD's MoTD post. Still longing for that spotlight post, though ;)
Although EQD is controversial and MoTD is not a "golden stamp of approval" it sure feels good to get some "official" recognition for the work I've put in. It's not supposed to be about the fame and the views, but it's damn fun when you've started gaining traction.

With as much talent as I've seen on this forum, I'm looking forward to seeing some pretty cool achievements here. Brag away!

I wish I had something more spectacular to post here. Have some short little ones:

I've made roughly $300 from making music in my entire career.
I almost got to score a feature-length independent film.
I recently purchased EastWest's Hollywood Strings Diamond and an SSD to put it on.
I'm batting .500 with the EQD spotlights (2 out of 4 submissions).
I typically put at least 40 hours of work into any piece I write.

I was the first person in the fandom to use 3d motion tracking and show animation to composite ponies in live footage, starting the, "ponies in real life (PIRL)" videos, which eventually led to other channels trying their hand at the PIRL concept, one of which that eventually made the recent My Little Dashie film.

I made one song that, while the beat could stand to be remixed, satisfies me as a rap vocalist, as a musician, and as an artist. And that's the only accomplishment I care about.

Postby Makkon » 22 Jan 2014 20:16

I found a wiki page about me: http://mlpfanart.wikia.com/wiki/Makkon

Makkon is an American producer from Utah is one of the most well known and respected musicians in the brony community. Makkon has been a key musician in organizing the brony community from it's creation. He started the Remix Wars, the first brony event and was the main moderator to the My Little Remix forum which has been the main community site and a learning resource for the musicians in the brony community. He has been involved in many events since such as Bronies For Good and Balloon Party. His skills at making orchestral music revolving around MLP themes have been instrumental in establishing a place for musicians that have followed his lead in bringing mature themes and classical music to the brony community. Makkon is well known for his belief that music should come first, ponies should be second priority and his role at MLR was to encourage that focus. Makkon is also a visual artist and is well known for his original creations that often accompany his music. He has stopped making brony music for some time and has retired from being site admin at My Little Remix as of May 7, 2013.

Here's another one: http://bronymusiciandirectory.blogspot. ... bel/Makkon

Wrote the top Luna song and helped create My Little Remix (home of mlp artists and the Remix Wars), this is just one of many songs dedicated to Luna (introduced briefly in the end of the second episode). In many ways Makkon is one of the most important brony musicians and is part of the heart and soul of the community through MLR and helping create and maintain it's important presence. He has recently moved on from MLR and the brony scene (now becoming a visual artist as well) but is staying close to the community through friends. Still likely the most famous orchestral musician of the scene).
Noteable Example : "Luna Deos"

Nothing to add, I guess...

I was on EqD once

On the non-pony side I had the highest score for my playing level in RCM piano testing in my entire state.

Also I've been personally invited to play live on radio twice for a Christmas Eve Special on a local radio station.

A tiny itsy bit off topic, but are you here to stay, Makkon? It would be great having you around again, but if the wife business needs your full attention, we still uinderstand.

Anyways. I can't brag to anybody on here because apparently everybody on here is better than me at stuff... But, I'm one of the few people in my school who probably has an adequate knowledge of digital music production. I suppose I'll find out next year when I take the "Digital Music Production" class.

I'm good friends with a few more "famous" musicians (people on Monstercat for example) and I regularly get support and feedback from them. Fox Stevenson says that I need to use more "cymbaly crashy stuff". Also Elliot Berger liked one of my sounds on SoundCloud and then I became good friends with him. I also think I may hit 2,000 SoundCloud followers this year at the rate that my page has been growing.

Within the fandom? Uhm... Omnipony and The Living Tombstome are both following me on SoundCloud and Omni is also subbed to me on YT so I suppose that's a plus. Not much aside from that though.

( In case you didn't notice I'm proud that I have people who care about my music ;u; )

Before I left Pinnacle Records I got a ton of good feedback and a small boost to my follower count. I'm not exactly a 'popular' musician. I don't really get all that much attention.

Aside from this one time that my uncle showed his neighbor (who plays lead guitar for a band) my music and he was really impressed.

First of all, LOVE THE NEW LOOK! It's very interesting!

Anyways, I think when I was just making music (Spunk-ROFL era) a guy from a pretty famous record label (not gonna mention it here) said he was working with a pretty famous musican ( also not gonna mention it here) and he said the musician would like to use my music, which was exciting, unfortunately he said a few months later that the musican makes their money from exploiting artists. :(

Another thing I'd like to brag about is that I made a remix for Candyland & Zak Waters (the vocalist for Madeon's The City), I've shared it on twitter, and then Zak himself said to me that it was 'Dooooope!' Hell, he even retweeted my remix, which was awesome!

One of my songs has 1 full remix, 1 chiptune remix and about 3 covers. (There could be more that I don't know about)
One time a guy sent me a video of him playing DDR to one of my songs.
And there was that one time that I met the grandparents of Aviators. That was interesting.

I've got a digital mixer with 24 inputs, a 16×16 MIDI matrix, and both are pretty much completely occupied. Talk about piling up hardware.

One of my synth workstations at home is a rare first-gen which was made for only one year. The other one was probably built within the first week of its production period.

I've played with a band on a gigantic stage in front of several cameras. (Granted, the cameras were only for the big LCD screen, but still.)

With the same band, I've played a gig in front of an audience which included the co-founder of Steinberg. We talked about synths after the gig.

Most of Friendship is Crazy 3 (which has disappeared from YouTube, unfortunately, but which has been featured on EqD) was inspired by my ideas.

I had a talk with Icky at the last GalaCon. He wanted me to finally start making music.

I knew Perrydotto in person before she became that cult auctioneer.
