I thought it'd be an interesting idea, to take your WIPs, or completed songs, but only a select few (4-7) you like and put them in a mix in your DAW to show how you have progressed, from what you feel is from worst (probably your first) to your current best. Try and keep it around 5 minutes.

It will be cool to see how people have improved over time throughout the mix!

Here's mine. It's pretty bad at the start hahaha. I even used the custom kicks in FL looool.

https://soundcloud.com/motivfsmusic/improvement-mix-a-year-later

1) Made last year, used custom kicks, and *shudders* presets.
2) Actually sounds I made for the first time, used actual kicks and claps and snares
3) First Drum & Bass song I finished, I never released it, it was kind of more neuro but not really at the same time
4) Hooves Up High remix, first time chopping vox
5) Glitch-Hop WIP, haven't released, wanted to aim at ShockOne -Light Cycles as my inspiration
6) Navron's Hail to the Queen that I remixed, it's basically done, but I'm lazy and didn't do a mixdown
7) Unfinished DnB project.

Silly Motivfs, I haven't improved at all! I haven't written/recorded enough to be able to do this.

Though this is a pretty interesting topic. That song at the end is great, a massive improvement haha :3

For the record, this spans of the course of 6 years.

COMMENTARY:
Song 1: was from 2008, just downloaded FL Studio 7.
Song 2: made to appease my drum n bass boner, also because i remixed small world earlier and redid it
Song 3: HANDS UP BIOTCH this was the majority of what I made up until about 2010
Song 4: found skrillex, downloaded massive. shit happens.
Song 5: First pony song, remixed d.notive. it exploded.
Song 6: First song as Thermite, made mistake of using tri wave instead of sine wave. i was dumb
Song 7: New song I'm working on.

I started shit, and ended shit.

I took your idea and posted a little info about the song, still, love how you've improved, it's definitely there, especially around the end.

I like this topic. Bradley, you've improved a fuckload, as have you Motivfs :3

Here's mine. It spans a period of 1.75 years or so, from December 2011 till now:
https://soundcloud.com/antevore/improvement

Song 1: The earliest I could find, from early 2012. My songs from before this one were lost somehow, and I deleted them from soundcloud to make room without downloading them first. Either way, this one sucked. The mixing was bad and the drums even worse. No presets though.

Song 2: Mid 2012. This was apparently before I knew keys very well. Not horrible, but certainly not good.

Song 3: My second dubstep attempt. Very proud of it at the time, and I had a lot of fun making it too.

Song 4: It's called "Tether", and I believe it might still be up (the ones after this definitely are). The third song might still be up too actually (it's "Starstruck"). Either way I really liked making this song. I honestly couldn't pin a genre to it. Again the mixing needs some work, especially on the drums, but all in all I don't think it's that bad. Also the waveform made a perfect triangle with the fade in tool in Audacity, so that's cool I guess.

Song 5: A long (7-8 minute), somewhat dark, ambient inspired house piece. Primarily inspired by General Mumble's "From Limbo to Judecca". Ended up a very fun piece to make. A little more repetitive than I'd like though, should've had some more variations in the reverby chords.

Song 6: A chiptune x house abomination song made quite recently. It was a collab with the potato (I bet nobody will get that but whatever; it's someone we don't talk about here anymore). I liked this one, I feel I did well with the sound design (not really evident here but whatever).

Song 7: Really proud of this one. I know the intro sounds like Sofi Needs a Ladder, don't tell me.

So yeah. I didn't put a WIP as my seventh song because I couldn't choose a specific one. I have 320 WIPs, by the way. And yes, that's the actual number. I counted.

I knew it. I KNEW SOMEONE WAS GONNA SAY SOMETHING ABOUT MAXIMIZER.
I honest to god didn't copy Alex S. This honestly was an original idea, the fact that it sounded like his song was an insane coincidence that absolutely broke my mind when I heard maximizer. I made the song before I heard it.

OK.

When I first started making electronic music, this is what I made. It was written in 2011 if I remember correctly.

Here is one of my earlier songs in the brony fandom. (Also my most popular.)

Finally, something from my most recent EP. (This is the first time that I have listened to this since its posting.)

So, there you go.

Bleh, I'm too lazy to make a mix, so have a bunch of embeds. (Also soundcloud space conservation)

https://soundcloud.com/gckrastin/input

May 2012: This was my first song. Ever. Period. It's terrible house of some sort and significantly faster than it should have been. Also so much clipping.

https://soundcloud.com/gckrastin/bloop

August 2012: My first dnb, I was actually really super proud of this when I released it. I still think the premise was interesting, I just didn't have the knowledge to pull it off well. Maybe someday I'll remake it.

https://soundcloud.com/gckrastin/andromeda

November 2012: This was the first thing I made with FL Studio (prior to FL I had been using LMMS) and idk what it even is. I was bored so I pushed some buttons and this came out.

https://soundcloud.com/gckrastin/the-swarm

January 2013: This is the first song that I made that I'm still proud of today. It also marked my entry into the land of neurofunk. (It's also my most viewed song on Youtube) Sure, it has a ton of mixing problems and stuff but for the most part it's pretty decent.

https://soundcloud.com/gckrastin/crystal-mountains

Today (June 2013): One of my tracks from R&R. It was my first attempt at liquid dnb and I think it turned out pretty well. (Although I'm more proud of Hydra tbh)

So yeah, I have improved a ton but I'm still not at the level I want to be. :\
Producing mediocre drum and bass since 2012.
Stuff I use: FL Studio 12, Harmor, Sytrus, Maximus, Akai MPK Mini, Numark Mixtrack

https://soundcloud.com/colortwelve/improvement-a-minimix

1. One of the oldest tracks I still have up, from March 2012. Just playing around with glitching and reversing audio. Used a couple of Z3ta+ presets and FL Keys.

2. The first collab with Vladnuke that we finished, from July 2012. Really rough, but no presets.

3. A track from my first album, released August 2012. Based on a sketch I'd had floating around since that February. Decent drums, but muddy and full of clipping.

4. Ex Favilla, from November 2012, but a revised version I made a couple months ago that fixes an issue with the sub-bass. One of the only tracks of mine that I sort of like.

5. A cover of Dream Theater's track Hell's Kitchen I made in January of 2013 to take my acoustic drum samples out for a spin and try to hone my mixing. Clearly, I had no idea what I was doing with the toms.

6. A track I made in early 2013 and released as both a one-year special on Youtube and as a part of the post-TLK compilation Beyond Our Reach. Has a few musical references to Everfree (#3 in this minimix).

7. A preview of my and Vladnuke's remix of the PMMM theme, for Vlad's upcoming album/EP/thing.
Youtube -- Soundcloud -- Tumblr -- Bandcamp (new album out!)

I can't feel my brain.

Seeing as I'm not doing a mix, I'll spare you a large post of embeds and just link my first song and most recent song.

Art of the Boss Battle (oh the spaghetti)
Cave Story - "Last Battle" Orchestral Remix

First song: Used FL Slayer, FL Drum Kit 4, Sytrus presets. I cringe every time I listen to it. We all started somewhere, I guess.

Second song: Nothin' but Kontakt. I think I did a pretty good job, even if it's on the short side.

Okay. I'm not proud of where I am now, but we'll take this journey anyway. Maybe it'll be the kick in the ass to wake me up and remind me that I need to actually use FLStudio to get better with it...

Song 1: Didn't even have the demo version of FL Studio at this point in time. It was done in MuseScore.
(Approx: Jan 2012?)
https://soundcloud.com/stickthefigure/equestrian-paradise

Song 2: Just acquired the demo version of FL Studio....10? No concept of levels, mastering, etc. I just....what do I even say to this....
(Approx: Jan 2012?)
https://soundcloud.com/stickthefigure/cross-the-hills

Song 3: It started with me screwing around on the piano. Presets ahoy.
(I don't even know. 2012.)
https://soundcloud.com/stickthefigure/salsa-samba-thing

Song 4: Still not sure. I just feel like I should link this.

Song 5: I had just played Dear Esther and was inspired by it's soundtrack. This is what happened.
(Oct. 2012)
https://soundcloud.com/stickthefigure/canterlot-caverns

Song 6: All right. Finally have a concrete date on this one. It was thanksgiving and I was hiding from my elderly relatives in my basement. I just ended up making what, to me, sounded like some kind of Mario Kart track.
(Thanksgiving 2012)
