Studio Wishlist Thread

Postby itroitnyah » 14 Oct 2012 09:13

This thread is for you to just post a list of your dream basement studio hardware, software, and set up.

Rules: there's only one. Don't go unrealistically expensive. Like, don't just go to a store's website and list the most expensive things there. Be realistic.

It would also be nice if you could set up a link to the items, and if you really want to, add up the total price of your dream basement studio.

I'll start.

Desk: This desk, or maybe This one.

Computer monitors: V7 24" LCD Monitors x2

Studio Monitors: JBL LSR 2328P 8" Bi-Amplified Powered Studio Monitors and Pioneer S-DJ08 Active Reference Speakers

Regular speakers: (for test out tracks) Klipsch - Icon 5-1/4" 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers

Midi Keyboard: Akai Professional MPK49 Keyboard USB MIDI Controller

Headphones: Sennheiser HD 650 Open-Air Pro Headphones to help with like mixing and mastering and Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9A for pleasure listening and testing out tracks.

Price: ~$4000

There have been threads like this before (I'm too lazy to find them right now).

Mods, we need more threads like this stickied, kinds that support cummunity wide topics (post pictures of your gear, One [or more, as necessary] Sentence Music-Tip Dump, The hugging/venting thread).

Stuff that I don't have?
Monitors- Yamaha NS-10s, I think I'd be able to work with 'em really well. Already use Avantones, which is kind of similar in some ways.

Guitar pre- Peavey Rockmaster. This thing acts kind of like a 5150- it's what the 5150 was based on, apparently.

Mic pre- Channel Strip

After looking at every single post in the Community section, I have not found a studio wishlist type of thread. So I guess I'm the first. I haven't checked through the techniques thread, which is the only other place that I think I'd find a thread of this type in.

Beat me to it. Only, instead of a helicopter I'd like a mini fridge...filled with caffeinated drinks.

Better mic
Better headphones
That's about it. I'm quite content with Reason ATM. FL Studio is cool too.

I want a MIDI guitar, because I'm a lazy s....

You-Rock Guitar

I've heard mixed results about this, but it seems good enough for me. And for $100 I don't feel like I'm losing out if it's bad.
Check out my stuff.

Speaking of those, my grandma (who is at my house visiting for pretty much all this week), she has her bachelors in music theory, but back when she was taking music classes in high school, her high school had a music class that involved synthesizers, and she took it. She says that the hardware synthesizers she used were as big as the table. My grandma is close to her 70's. Close to 50 years ago when she took the class.

On an unrelated note my first removed cousin used to be a music producer (now he's a scout and gets metal bands signed), but he was more of a performance producer, so he would smash a ton of stuff for his performances. He got chased out of many places by the police =P and now there's a movie/documentary on him. Just felt like sharing.

My only wishes (and I'll make them come true relatively soon) are a 2nd screen specifically for mixer channels and EQing in general and a 2-octave midi keyboard.

I want about a grand to build a tower first off.

From there I want a Fractal Audio Axe FX II so I can record some baller guitars (and not have to deal with the hassle of mikes).

Now in addition to my wishlist, a room that is would work as a studio. Although that does make me question, If you have a square bedroom, and you put a desk like, in the middle of the room, more towards the wall, and had everything else in your bedroom in front of the desk, and had your studio monitors facing towards the wall, would that work well for a makeshift studio of sorts? Image Here's a picture of what I mean.
