I have a template with my most used samples and synths. It can hinder your creativity a tad, but it makes life so much easier in the long run.

You could get something like LMMS which I believe is free and from what I've heard kinda similar to FL studio, never tried it myself though.

It's a very old and very rusty AKAI midi keyboard and doesn't function completely properly -- some keys's sensitivity is a lot different from others.
